Stopped in for a takeaway soup of the day. Didn’t spend much time in the place, but will definitely frequent again. The chorizo soup was nearly all gone so the staff gave us a discount for only being able to give us a partial cup. It easily left us wanting more. The staff was friendly and the food affordable.

Was waking around looking for a place for brunch and stumbled across this beautiful little cafe - like being in your own living room. The guy serving was extremely pleasant and kind, when I ordered the Scottish breakfast I asked for no black pudding and he kindly added in a square sausage. It was all delicious. Thank you for making Friday a little brighter.

Stopped by this cafe for a quick snack. Warm and cosy place during this cold weather! A good variety of breakfast choices but went for one of the toasties instead! Tried the satay chicken and avocado toastie which was amazing!

Fantastic little cafe with a very homely atmosphere, unique decor and interesting soups & toasties! The host was fantastic, and very welcoming as if it was his own home. He immediately warned us that there would be a bit of a wait, but continued to give every customer very personal service so nobody felt rushed. The coffee and food was very good and it was very warm and cozy. Would definitely recommend stopping in if you aren't in a rush!

Outstanding down-to-earth filled toasties, wholesome soup and smoothies, and lots more to try on the menu. Small entrance into a larger seating area (socially distanced) or take-away. Great service from the kind owner and team. Stop here a while, it'll be good for your soul.

Fatty Owls is a nice and cosy café with a rather quirky character. You can see lots of owls🦉 references everywhere, which is cute if you are like me and enjoys owls. They offer breakfast, lunch and hot beverages. Coffee was good and the sandwich too. The location close to Grassmarket makes it appealling for visitors if they want a break from the crowds. One possible downside is that the place is fairly small, but then again, if you're looking for small cosy place, that's perfect. Definitely recommended.

Fine array of consumables, both hot and cold. Toasted sandwich with pastrami pickles and cheese was lush.

We had breakfast here today. The atmosphere was so relaxed and the food was great. We loved the smoothies. It was an impressive one man show. The person (who I suppose was the owner) cooked, cleaned, served the tables and chatted with the customers. It felt like being at home. Absolutely recommended

If you're looking for a perfect little cafe to spent a few hours in comfort, this is the perfect one for you. I recently went there with my fiancé and it was such a cozy experience. Very reasonably priced and delicious toasties and some lovely coffee accompanied with a very charming atmosphere. It is the type of hidden gem that you love to find on holidays. If you need a break, definitely come here.

This really was such a calm lovely living room-feeling place. the person working at the time we were there gave us chips for free as he didn’t have any tattie scones at the time. he was very welcoming and let us stay to wait out the rain. altogether a lovely quaint little place to sit for a coffee or quick meal ❤️

The (small number of) bad reviews for this place are unfair. If you're in a hurry and looking for a warmed up pre-made sandwich, go to Costa. If you're looking for a quiet chilled out local coffee shop, a little way off the beaten track, you can't go wrong with fatty owls. Great coffee, fantastic food, and a friendly welcome. Nice independent coffee shop vibe.

TLDR: atmosphere = A+, food = A+, service = A+, price = A + This place is brilliant! The menu is simple but absolutely exactly what you need for breakfast/brunch. The pricing is more than fair. The quality of the food is top notch (they also make a mean espresso) The gentleman and the lady we had in the morning were great. The waitress was an absolute peach!!! I would recommend this place to literally everyone!

Absolutely loved the experience at Fatty Owls Edinburgh, just a short walk to the Castle and Old Town experience. The quaint but beautiful cafe has so much personality. It was a relaxing, home like experience. From the decor to the music, to the food. Definitely a 5 star experience . A good price too. I am going back for sure!❤
