When your dining companion has just returned from a trip to Barra with tales of uber-fresh seafood, you hope that the evening’s restaurant of choice goes some ways to eradicating the green-eyed monster. Mercifully, Fishers in the City, a smart but relaxed eatery on Thistle Street, succeeded in showing that a city restaurant can deliver those fresh harbourside flavours.

I was rejected twice here, coming without a booking and seeking for a table for 1. So third time lucky, got a table.

The place is cool, the setting feels homely and the decor with the books and the letter fish was interesting.

The menu is actually quite expensive, even for my budget and the only other thing i didn't like is the Polish waitress, Alexandra. Please smile and don't frown at me.

I ordered the fish soup, the orkney scallops with langoustines and a side chips. The soup was thick but still there was pieces of salmon and onions to give texture.

I fully enjoyed my main dish, although i should have ordered the lobster instead to save me some repeated effort. The scallops was tender and the dressing for the whole dish gave lots of flavors.

Lastly for dessert, i ordered the sticky toffee pudding, an old classic. It was actually a little too sweet for me and instead of ordering it with both ice cream and cream, go for just ice cream.

Ok forget the price problem, worth every penny.

When it comes to seafood restaurants in Edinburgh there is only one that has won my heart and that is Fishers. There are 2/3 of the chain in the city but Fishers in the City has been my restaurant of choice for sometime. Located on Thistle Street just behind George Street, the restaurant offers a warm and welcoming sport for dinner or lunch.

I opted for 3 beautiful courses. Squid and Chorizo to start followed by a whole Sea bream with rocket and pancetta before finishing with the ultimate pudding of sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Each course was equally delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was a delight.

If you are a sea food lover, there is nowhere else in Edinburgh that I would recommend more than Fishers. Beautiful food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere. If you haven’t been – then go!

I came for a casual dinner with my mum and my sister on a saturday night. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the wooden aesthetic gives it a cosy and intimate feel without having to be cramped and uncomfortable. Sister chose main of beautifully cooked scallops accompanied by a homemade pesto so delicious that extra bread was ordered so not a drop was wasted. Mother and I shared the lemon sole on recommendation from the waiter that today's catch was 'huge' and more than enough for one. Upon arrival, I must admit that we had different understandings of 'huge', as I could have quite happily finished it by myself. However, I have no complaints as it left room for dessert which was needed. The sticky toffee pudding here is divine, and they have an interesting selection of ice cream and sorbets from overlangsham farm, who also supply the apiary and three birds.

My boyfriend's grandparents were in Edinburgh for the Royal Highland Show last week, so we arranged to have dinner. Knowing that they are seafood fans we decided to give Fishers a try as we had heard a lot of good things about it.
Sam and I shared fish cakes and mussels to start, both were delicious. The side of bread was also very tasty, and perfect for dipping in the white wine and garlic sauce.
We all had fish for our main course, and we all finished everything! I decided to order the lemon sole but Sam's fish and chips were also very good.
Although we had a bit of a long wait between our starter and our main course, the waiter had a great attitude and was very funny. The prices are quite high, but no more so than any other fish restaurant.
Overall we had a great experience here, but due to the prices it's not somewhere we would eat regularly.

I went here last night with my partner. We both had starters (the scallops), mains (pan fried hake), desserts (sticky toffee pudding and dark chocolate delice) and shared a bottle of white wine. Spotted lobster on the specials board shortly after ordering for a reasonable price and was very tempted to call the wait staff back and reorder, though I am glad I didn't after eating! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious; the scallops were cooked perfectly, the hake was lovely and crispy on the outside with the perfect herb baste and melt-in-your-mouth once you'd cut into it. The wine we had worked well with the savoury and sweet meals. And the desserts were heaven! Portion sizes were spot on, not too little that you were still hungry, not too much that you'd left half on the plate. And I can't fault the service - staff were lovely and helpful without being overbearing. In a nice spot on Thistle street, tucked far enough away from the bustle of the cbd that you can enjoy a peaceful meal. Will definitely be coming back to this place, two thumbs up, 5 stars, the whole shebang!

Great ambiance-but ask for a table in the front. The roast beet and goat cheese salad over spinach was amazing.

Simple, Delicious Seafood. Nothing on the menu of Fishers will scare anyone, but it will please just about anyone. The essentials in this kind of restaurant (all dark wood balustrades & tiled horseshoe bar) things like mussels, fish-cakes, lobster are executed very well. The fishcakes in particular are a delight, with a good, high fish content and seasoned well & with a spicy Thai style dip. The specials are always worth a look in a fish restaurant and they are very good here and if you are eating before six or seven they usually have a nicely priced set menu as well. All in all, this restaurant is so close to George Street, but so much better than anything on it.

I've been going to Fishers for years - I dread to think how long - and I've yet to be disappointed.

Last night's dinner was as good as any and a very welcome treat on such a miserable evening.

My dining partner had oysters as a starter and declared them to be wonderful. I normally have my fork hovering over every dish I can, but oysters are one of the few things I don't like. I was, however, gracious enough to share my scallops with black pudding - this was very generous considering how beautifully cooked they were.

On to main courses and my dining partner had shoulder of haggis stuffed lamb, which I have to confess I was dubious about. I turned out my misgivings were totally unfounded and the haggis was a fantastic accompaniment to the delicious, tender lamb.

I plumbed for the trout with lemon and thyme pearl barley. The trout was, of course, cooked to perfection, but the surprise of the dish was how absolutely wonderful the creamy rich pearl barley was.

The service was as friendly as ever and our only criticism would be that they waiter failed to give us clean glasses when we ordered an additional bottle of wine - not a major disaster!

Best sea food I have tasted in Edinburgh. A must have is the "fishers soup". It is their signatory dish and totally mouth watering! Gets busy on weekends. Te lunch menu is incredible value for money £15 for 2 course lunch. If you like fresh, natural and tasteful fish prepared In traditional ways don't hesitate to visit this place.

We could enjoy variety of hot seafood platter. Lobster, langoustine, mussels, oyster and clams were amazing. We ordered salmon for main dish as well, it was amazing. However I am not sure this restaurant is very special or impressive. I feel it is just normal fancy seafood restaurant.

BBackground: It is a seafood restaurant located in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town. The restaurant has been serving seafood for over 20 years and is known for its fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Ambience: The interior is simple with understated decor, but the atmosphere is still pleasant and welcoming. Service: The service does not detract from the dining experience, but it also does not add much to it. Food: The food is good, with a focus on fresh and locally sourced seafood. Overall: A good seafood restaurant in Edinburgh.

Loved fishers by the shore so decided to give the second location a try too since it’s closer to our hotel. Still pretty good, but I definitely preferred the shore location. The shore location has more variety other items (foraged mushrooms, pasta, crab toast, soft shell crab sandwich). Keeping in mind, I went to the shore location for lunch so maybe it was different but nevertheless, personally I would go back to the shore. Either way though, still a fantastic meal. It’s a much bigger restaurant, and more of vibe. We ordered the small smoked fish soup, small mussels, small grilled oysters, smoke salmon plate, and the hand dived orkney scallops (too buttery in my opinion) for two. And finished off with a cheese plate. Delicious and memorable meal. A lot of variety of fresh seafood, prepared in multiple ways.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit when I am in Edinburg. I have been there few times as foods so tasty and staffs are friendly and attentive. My fav dish to order is mussels in creamy sauce that remind me of Brussels. Highly recommend to book in advance as it’s always busy.

Wow! Best mussels in the city hands down. Mussels are cooked in a cream white wine sauce with garlic and it was absolutely addictive. Moreover, the cleanliness of the mussels was also spot on as there weren't any sandy surprises waiting for us in our mouths. The scallops, langoustine, and haggis bons bons were good too and worth a try as well! Lastly, we also had the pork belly which wasn't as crispy as we would've liked and came in a more gelatinous texture but the taste was still wonderfully umami without having any funkiness to it. Overall, great seafood and service in the heart of downtown Edinburgh!

Absolutely WONDERFUL experience all around. Our server, Ada, was soooo kind, friendly and attentive. Thank you so much for the well wishes and hope to see you next year, Ada! Ordered the classic fish and chips, as well as the half dozen oysters. Both were extremely fresh and delicious! The creme brulee and pear parfait desserts were remarkable! Pouilly-fume was a perfect pairing for all. Definitely make reservations in advance, which seems to be a common theme in Edinburgh (lesson learned). So glad we made that reservation and waited. Truly memorable experience that we'll seek to repeat when back in Scotland. Highly recommended!

This is a spectacular restaurant. The food was delicious. Really really delicious. Service was attentive without being fussy or too much. The mains went too quickly to get pictures I’m afraid. Oysters were just divine. But here are the deserts.

Exceptional foods. Hot seafood platter is very yummy. The deserts are dying for. Cream brûlée and sticky toffee pudding are my favorites. I have tried several sticky toffee puddings somewhere else but I’m telling you this restaurant makes the best.

Been twice already. Both times we had the fish and chips. I know I'm lacking imagination but it was very good. Fun, personable staff. Not to loud in the bar area. Reservations recommended but they were nice enough to squeeze us in the first night we went.

Perfect place for seafood lovers. Food and atmosphere are excellent. Service is impeccable. Crews were attentive, constantly filling up our water, changed our plates when filled with empty shells. Ordered a dozen of Fresh Oysters, Cold Seafood Platter for 2 and a Hot Seafood Platter for 2. Oysters & seafood are fresh and juicy. The creamy herb butter sauce on the Hot Platter was to die for! Highly recommended place to go for seafood!

I dont know what to say about this place except WOW.. here's what we ordered (all 10/10) for starters, the salt&pepper squid.. the king scallops with sweetcorn salsa.. and the tuna tartare.. mains we got the halibut with babaganoush.. and the Orkney king scallops brown shrimp with tender stem broccoli, and we got the rocket & parmesan salad for a side. Finally, for dessert, we got a sticky toffee pudding. Everything was 10/10. the server was lovely cheerful and very helpful. Make sure u make a reservation before going.

Lucky to have walked in and got a table (last second cancellation). Great staff took very good care of us. I had the salmon and haddock soup and fish cakes. The flavours were distinct and subtle as only a great chef can achieve. Mmmmm - at the memory of it.

The seafood platter is lovely in flavor, but the quality of the local lobster and langoustine is not that good, if not frozen then stayed a while in the tank. The scallop of Orkney is nice. However, the seafood spaghetti we ordered for kids is the best.

One of the best dining experiences for me while in Edinburgh. I loved the food, the service staff, the atmosphere, and that it was just a little bit off the crowded path. The fish and chips were great, but the fish pie clinched - perhaps the fish pie ever!

Best food ever had in Edinburgh. Fresh lobster and cod, perfectly cooked. Enjoyed the desserts as well. Was a little suspicious whether it’s worth the money cuz it’s quite expensive (45+ per person) but after dinner would definitely want to go again!!!
