Amazing decoration. Typical scottish place. I tried the fish and ships, the chicken sandwich and the garlic bread. Dishes were tasty and very well seasoned. Good presentation.
Alright, one more haggis and then I’m going for a salad. So it better be a good one, right? Don’t worry. It’s a gorgeous one paired with an excellent whisky. To wind down my haggis hunt, I’d like to toast this most hearty of dishes and the lovely city with a few words about the lovely meal had at Whiski Bar & Restaurant on the Royal Mile.
Great food, beer and whiskey :) and the cherry in top the awesome live music.
Definitely the place to visit in Edinburgh specially if you're around for the Fringe
Situated right in the middle of Royal Mile this is one of the best night places to be at in Edinburgh. The bar starts its live music every night at around 9PM and is a perfect place to sip your scotch or grab a beer along with food, by the company of some wonderful music.
The staff is polite and is highly efficient.
I was served my food within minutes and never during my stay at the restaurant could I see an empty table. People just kept coming and coming and it was a great meal and time for me.
One of my very favourite foods in this world is haggis. Not for everyone, I’m sure. But the love affair started at a very young age. When I was a toddler, in fact! My mum was pushing me around the supermarket in the trolley and I wouldn’t shut up (no change there then!) A lady was handing out haggis samples and without a care in the world (or a clue what was in it!) I was shovelling it in my mouth. Apparently I couldn’t get enough of it, and we had to go back for seconds. And maybe thirds…
Loved every second of my stay at this little jewel. Didn't eat very much but the range of beers was wonderful and exciting. The staff, a grand total of 2 people, gladly attended to 30 tables without so much as a "I'll be right with you" curtness. They were shiny happy people and the place glowed in this joy. The music ...ah! The lovely whacky quirky Scottish music with its strange and sometimes incomprehensible lyrics was pure entertainment. We were entertained, that evening by a band called "the Gorms" and they were delightful!
I had a lovely chicken club sandwich that was a big serving for a lunch special, I was very satisfied. Wonderfully cooked chicken breast and bacon with a good amount of sauce as well. Chips and salad were great as well, enjoyed the meal as a whole.
Its a nice cozy traditional pub in old town to enjoy a couple of drinks. The staff is cool and the service is good .They have a live band also. Nice place to visit if u are staying at the Royal mile.. Its right opposite to Radisson blu royal mile.
We were in the old town looking for a traditional pub to eat some launch and went by Whisky. On the terrace tables people were drinking and eating so we thought it would be a good place.
The inside room was amazing, lots of pictures on the wall with that old pub look, exactly what we're looking for.
We read the menu and decided to go with the dishes of the day: fish and chips (had to try it) and haggis neeps and tatties (we didn't even know what it was :).
The Fish and chips were good, not to much oilly and with a nice filet of cod.
The haggis neeps and tatties were the surprise, i was afraid to eat it but the flavor was spot on, very good indeed.
Even though the house specialties were whiskey we had a pint of the house beer and some cider.
The service was always very nice and very fast.
If you want a traditional pub in the heart of Edinburgh this is a great choice! Moreover at night they even have live music.
Great Introduction to Scotland. We had just arrived in Edinburgh on a Sunday night and wanted to kick off our trip with some authentic Scottish food. Decided to try the WHISKI Bar & Restaurant. After the service got off to a slow start, things picked up. Had a few good local beers and tried the fish cakes and "Cullen Skink". Both were great and nicely presented. Tried a Whisky flight to get us in the mood. Each of us ordered different entrees: Lamb Rump, Sausage and Mash, Chicken Whisky Mushroom, and Steak and Ale Pie. Everyone enjoyed their dinner!
Nice decor, friendly servers. Funny surprise in the bathroom! Would recommend a visit.
If you are in Scotland you have to go on a whisky trial. Due to the fact that the closest operating distillery is an hour away from Edinburgh and I visited already in 2003, we decided to do a whisky bar crawl in Edinburgh to compensate...
When u go to edinburgh, u gotta try cranachan! It tastes really good.
Really happy with this place. We had the Rib eye steak, the beef and ale pie and a couple of drams of whisky (they have a selection of 300!) Food quality, service, atmosphere and location all perfect. Will definitely visit again.
This place is on High Street right on the Royal mile. It’s a nice pub with many types of whiskey.
I had food and drinks here. The food was was good and traditional. I had the Scotch Steak Pie and a couple of Old Fashions.
The staff and the service was good. They didn’t skip a beat and asked at perfect times if everything was good or if I needed anything else.
If you do come here. Come in the evening or at night for a good time. They have live music at around 930pm.
If you are on the Royal mile stop by this place.
Welcoming and polite hospitality...
Fast service and well presented food.
Kids dinner appeared homemade fish and chips....Chunky chips as well.
Nice selection of whiskeys.
Also comfortable and clean.
Reasonable price for Edinburgh...3 main meals and 1 kids meal. 2 ciders, 2 decent whiskey and 2 soft drinks include tip... £95.
I really loved this place when I visited Edinburgh.. It has wonder Scottish live music.. I tried a Scottish food which is Gilmore Beef and Haggis Sausages and I loved it, very tasteful... The atmosphere was amazing, the service was also very good.. The waiter somehow got us a wrong order but he fixed it right away.. I would definitely recommend this place.. Food and beverage aren't very pricey so basically it is a right place to get that wonderful breath of Edinburgh especially at night...
My husband and I loved this place when we vacationed in Edinburgh a couple weeks ago! The service was excellent, nice inviting atmosphere and the food was delicious! We didn't have a reservation and just popped in. They were very welcoming and told us it would be a short wait to get a table. We grabbed a drink at the bar and within 5 minutes we were seated. The cullen skink and the fish and chips were excellent! My husband enjoyed the Haggis tower and we shared a sticky toffee pudding for dessert that was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place and hope to visit it again someday.
Great service! First night in Edinburgh, came in late and they provided good food, good drinks, and fun live music. Try the haggis spring rolls! Steak pie was also one of the best.
We absolutely loved our time in Edinburgh. Much of it was spent in Whiski. It was an impromptu trip and we arrived late on a Friday night. We walked in to live music and a friendly atmosphere, so much so that we returned Saturday afternoon, evening and again in Sunday. There are many whiskies to choose from and the staff are absolutely great, they were friendly, gave advice over whiskey- and really knew their stuff. The Gorms were great on the Friday night. Big hands for Bethany, Charlie, Clara, Jack and Blair. Really knowledgeable, friendly and kind. Cannot rate this place highly enough. Faye and Steve.
It is very well located. The place is cosy and they have a good choice of drinks and food.
The fish and chips was the first one since I came to Scotland so I can't compare it but it was good. The salmon was good but I expected more.
On the way we saw restaurants with better prices so on that side, we would prefer to try others.
The place offers live music every day from 10 pm and the area is very lively.
The haggis was great! One star minus because the food wasn‘t hot when it arrived. But the flavour was awesome.
The atmosphere is something else in this place. The live music is such a great addition.
Really fun and busy bar with great, friendly and knowledgeable staff. I had the haggis burger which was phenomenal, although the chips looked great I swapped it for mash which was delicious. A cheeky pudding and whisky was also great.
Really, really good live music. I think the best live music I've ever seen in a pub from the Gorms.
For some reasons I went to this place twice, day and night
Haggis was good although it could be slightly too creamy for some and I got a bit tired of the taste at the end, so better to share the food with others
When it comes to whisky they had great selection and also offers tasting menus which were really helpful
They also have live music in the late night with high quality band
Overall, loved every moment here !
We booked a table for 1 pm but we arrived early. This was no issue, and we were seated immediately. The staff was very friendly,
The reasons why we went to the Whiski Bar were the cullen skink & whiski cranachan.
We started off with the cullen skink which was delicious! We followed this with a burger for myself and my wife ordered the fish and chips. Both were delicious (the fish was rather huge!) and we topped it off with the whiski cranachan which was amazing! All in all, worth the visit! :D
Pie filling was very nice but crust wasn't very good and it was difficult to cut. The mash was okay.
Burger was really nice and the chutney went really well with it.
Food prices are slightly pricey but considering it's location, okay. Also waited very long for food, about 45-60 mins. But it was during a busy time, during the fringe.
Recommend.
Excellent burgers, super attentive staff, fast service, great selection of whiskies! We popped in for a late lunch, would definitely come here again!
Favorietes: Whiskey flights.
Excellent whiskey bar. You can taste almost every single scotish whiskey here.
They also have live music.
We didn't get a chance to try the food.
If you happen to be in Edinburgh, don't miss it.
What a pleasant surprise!!
The Salmon was delicious and the curry sauce was perfect. The single malt Jura Journey and Glen Elgin Scotch were the perfect match.
The Gorms played Scotch folk music that was both engaging and performed with verve and skill.
A great restaurant with local food and at the same time an absolutely great pub with very, very friendly and attentive staff. Always great live music in the evening. Next time we come to Edinburgh we will definitely be staying here again. 👍
My wife and I had originally booked a table at another restaurant in the city. However, after visiting this establishment for the first time for a quick whisky, we decided to cancel our original reservation and give this place a try. We were not disappointed either. The food was absolutely amazing as was the service and atmosphere. Always busy so may be best to make a reservation.
Highly recommend and we will definitely be coming back, whenever that may be. Thank you so much..
