Cycled here via the innocent railway path which exited at the Commonwealth pool, it was easy to drop down this pub for a bite to eat and a couple pints of the black stuff. Service was excellent, Balmoral chicken highly recommended and the Guinness top notch, what more do you want.

Nice and cozy pub with lots of good beer and delicious food. Also the staff is very nice. Worth a try. Be sure to try the haggis, it's absolutely great.

I was lucky to be able to spend my Saturday night in this pub. Proper old type pub with very good pub food! I had their steak pie and honestly it was really tasty! You get decent service from the boys and have a good choice of drinks as well. It's a really good pub outside of the crazy city centre!

When in this pub, it would be rude not to try and count the number of bells you see adorning the walls. The antique bells fit in well with the style of the pub, traditional and with a hint of class, and this especially bursts out from the pages of their menu.

The bar itself sells food, but they have an upstairs restaurant where the food can be enjoyed in a less crowded area. The food is expensive, but it is also a lovely treat, the venison being the standout for myself. But the price can put others off from dining in the bar, especially with the No 1 Grange Road being close by.

But the quality of food in this bar and it's subsequent dining area is far superior. It is some of the best food you can expect from a local bar which caters for just the nearby residents and the chef clearly knows his way around a kitchen.

Amazing food and service. The fish was a footlong! Lightly battered and I got steamed vegetables and thir tartar sause was super good. It was dill and pickles and sour cream. It was so good that I went the next day and had it again.

Good selection of beers, small menu but good quality food. Staff were friendly and appeared interested in my responses - always a bonus! Prices were not too expensive and an obviously popular quiz night was about to take place as I left. Will I go again? Yes, this is a lovely venue and ticks all the right boxes.

Great little pub on the corner, we came during the day for lunch and also popped in the same evening for dessert after dinner elsewhere. The gentleman at lunch was very friendly and hospitable, was great to have a conversation with him and the food was delicious!!! Including my vegetarian option. The evening vibe was a bit different as it was very busy but overall really enjoyed coming here and would go again if ever travelling to Edinburgh in the future!

Rick Steves got this right and so did my Guest House host! Barony House sent me here and I came away feeling like I had a real local experience. Great hospitality! I went back multiple times!

Rick Steves recommended it, and though the "fine dining" upstairs was closed because of a price event, the pub was great. Definitely above average pub grub. I had gnocchi with sauce from fresh tomatoes and veggies with a bit of spice to it. The apple pie was made fresh and full of fresh apples. Lot of good options for beers, ales and lagers. They were having. "Trivia Contest," which was well organized and great fun for all. I will not say how I scored. Winners shared their prizes!

Great local pub. The steak and ale pie was the best I have ever had. Fish and chips were good as well. Try the Hagis Bites for a starter. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A must stop. If you have young ones get there before 8 pm due to their license.

Really nice authentic pub with a great atmosphere! We discovered it by accident one evening and decided to give it a try. Oh boy, we were not disappointed. We liked it so much that we came back a second time during our stay in Edinburgh. The first evening we tried the haggis from their menu (my girlfriend had the veggie option). Both meals were so delicious (the pepper sauce is to die for)! The second evening we ordered both the veggie haggis. Compliments to the chef! Also, the staff was very attentive! The young guy behind the bar recommended a really tasty and smooth whiskey. All in all, an awesome experience.

A lovely pub in the neighbourhood, when entering you can almost hear the song in your head 🎶 where everybody knows your name 🎵 great selection of guest ales and on Mondays there seems to be Pub Quiz Night, at least we ran into it…

Nice cosy little place in the Mayfield area just outside the centre of Edinburgh. Decent ales and some lovely food. The Balmoral Chicken and Haggis, neeps & tatties pictured here were both served with a peppercorn whisky sauce and were very tasty indeed.

We came here on a recommendation from our B&B hosts and are glad we did. Food was good, beer was delicious, and atmosphere was terrific. Scotland was playing Georgia and even the rain delay didn't dampen enthusiasm.
