Great food - nice preparing of the rice which is so important for the Japanese food. Good service - they called us because we had left some small plant on the table. Nice ambience - cosy atmosphere with good interior.
A little bit down by the price - quite expensive for its portion. All dishes look more like small appetizers rather than the mains. It may require about 40 pounds each for full proper supper.

As a sushi lover, when i found out about this place i was so eager to try it out. Eventually we went yesterday for the dinner and honestly i dont have enough words to describe it. The service was really good, all the staff were friendly and very welcoming which made the experience even better.
The food was exceptional !! Honestly, i never eaten something this good in ages or even my life. I am very picky when it comes to choosing sushi/ asian restaurants but this simply was up top. My boyfriend and I took,
Salmon Sashimi, Eel Nigiri, O'Toro Nigiri, Grilled Scallop Nigiri, Miso Aubergine, Octopus Fried Balls, and 2 trays of sushi rolls, chawamushi, miso soup and wagyu gunkan
Everything was simply perfection and i would most definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.
We will definitely visit again !
Amazing experience. The food was exceptional, the staff really helpful and discreet and the atmosphere relaxing.
It was our first time eating there but definitely not the last!
I recommend especially the seared tuna and the wagyu. Delicious
This is the best sushi I’ve found in Edinburgh. Far outclassing other options. The sushi omakasi could have a couple more pieces. But the sashimi omakasi was fantastic. Nice pairing with the sake when asked for.
I love this place, it was soooo good. The food my god was amazing. The waitresses were so very nice. We didn’t wait too long for the food to arrive. Perfect, 5 stars!
Excellent sushi restaurant. After visiting their sister restaurant Kanpai I had to try this place. I found the service better than Kanpai as they were more friendly. Food was just as good with more attention to presentation.
The Hamachi (yellowtail) cheek was the highlight for me alongside the aburi (seared) wagyu nigiri
Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh. The chief is quite considerate and care about every detail of dishes.
Around the corner, tucked away, this Japanese restaurant is a little gem. Yamato offers an authentic experience with absolutely delicious food. It has a lovely calm atmosphere and the staff are excellent. The food was brilliant, anything ranging from sushi to tempura, it's all there. I really liked the picture book style menu which for people who might not be familiar with Japanese cuisine really helps to navigate. The menu also contains information about allergens such as sesame which we were really happy with. You might argue it's a bit pricey at around £20+ per person but it's worth because the quality, the service and even the presentation of the food is brilliant. Overall, I could not fault them and would recommend you visit as well.

I went with a friend who lived and worked in Japan for three years. She was so excited about the menu, lots of lovely food that she'd missed since leaving. Her descriptions and recommendations had me salivating before we even got to the restaurant. We were not disappointed! The food was fabulous. The service was excellent and the presentation was just beautiful. We paid £75 a head and it was worth every penny. My friend has a shellfish allergy and they were very accommodating, keeping our orders separate to avoid any cross-contamination. Highly recommended, booking advised. We arrived early and it was packed by the time we left. My friend said it was the most authentic Japanese she's had outside of Japan.
Our sashimi was so fresh, the quality was exceptional.
The food is fresh, delicious and customer service is great!
