A group of friends had our Xmas day out in the Newsroom. The food and service was absolutely superb. I have to say for a festive menu, the quality and quantity of food was outstanding and excellent value for money (a few other establishments could take note). We were royally treated by Greger, Charlie and Tom who looked after our every need and they are a credit to the Newsroom. Thank you for a fantastic day and we will see you all in 2019.

THAT ‘BACK TO work’ feeling had truly set in as our holiday drew to a close. The cuisine in Istanbul was as cheap as it was excellent. Edinburgh rarely lets you down when you avoid the usual horde of monotonous chain food joints and, thankfully, there was still time for one last meal - The Newsroom being the venue.

I very well remember going to this place, because it was the first restaurant I went to in Burgh. First thing that you pulls you in the the very unique, lamps that they have put on the walls facing the streets, just beautiful. The inside of course is themed like a newspaper. I only had a couple of beers here and some chips. So I won't review the food here based on something very abundant in UK. But given the smells and looks of it food was good. The staff of course were really friendly compare to any restaurant in India. Which I really loved. I shall forever have this place in my head for all the good reasons.

Stopped by for lunch as they actually served food on their outdoor patio. Alys took good care of me and recommended a local dark ale, which was delicious. The fish and chips were very good with crispy potatoes and (not mashed) peas. The fish was perfect. Crispy on the out side and soft and moist on the inside.

Stopped here for a quick lunch. Staff was engaging and the food was wonderful. Great little spot just a short walk from rail station. Well worth it. I had the naughty piggy - let's just say This little piggy was satisfying!

The waiters were slow and my food was bad. I got sick afterwards. The potato wedges were good, and well seasoned. The Ambiente was gorgeous and super cute to take pictures. The portion size was very good.

Delightful restaurant! Menu has loads of different gins and whiskeys. They even have whiskey flights! Food selection ranged from down and dirty to elevated. We went with the fajitas and the Philly cheesesteak dog. Both were cooked perfectly! Excellent service. We were promptly addressed at the door and the servers were very attentive but not hovering. It was a nice cool respite from a warm and hectic day!

Dry and old burguer bun. Visit you each 2-3 months and know the difference. This small detail makes the whole experience either pleasant or not. There is a huge difference between a dry and old bun and a fresh toasted one. The waitress couldn't care less, when I communicated this to her and she did not inform the manager, as well.

Needed food and a rest, The Newsroom gave me the best of both. Friendly, helpful service in a relaxed atmosphere. The food selection is nice, soup, burger and fries tasted great.

Nice place to have a quick pint after visiting Calton Hill. Very noisy to sit outside due to the many ambulances etc passing by. A lot of Nice beers to chose from.

The Newsroom is a lovely gastropub with seating on a couple of levels. Bar and table service is good. Most of the tables are raised with suitable chairs but the bench seats are a bit low for the tables - felt a bit like a child 😅 I like the style of wash basins in the clean and tidy toilets! I wasn't too happy with the range of beers on tap though, and resorted to cider. My meal of haggis, neeps and tatties was excellent and had an interesting twist being garnished with flakes of sweet potato.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Food is always nice. 5 minute walk from Edinburgh Playhouse. Which makes it perfect for us. We had starters of Broccoli & Stilton soup and Breaded mushrooms. The soup came with 3 large slices of sourdough bread and was really nice. The mushrooms were 3 massive pieces, about the length of my hand, served with a nice mayo dip and had a tomato salsa salad. The mushrooms were Crispy and moist and were really nice. Mains of Tequila Mocking Dog and fish and chips. The dog was superb, but was not smothered in sauce as claimed, but was nice along with Fries. The fish as always was very large. Nice Crispy batter and flakey fish was superb. The chunky chips were nice. Had a portion of onion rings which as usual were very large and crunchy. Looking forward to our next visit.

Popped in, unplanned, as the kids fancied burgers and this place was close, and had good reviews. We were pleased we did. Chips were top notch. And the two carnivores really enjoyed their pulled pork hotdog and chicken burger. As the vegetarian, my moo-free burger was substantial and tasty. Would have been super helpful if the menu said what was vegetarian - it looked like some options throughout the menu were possibly veggie, but it didn't say, and there were only two options in the actual meat-free section. Would be great if it could be marked on the menu. It's a minor change that would help a lot if you don't want to make a fuss. All in all, though, a tasty and pleasant experience. Not top of the list to go back to, but nice.

The Newsroom Bar and Eatery is a great place to stop for a bite to eat or have a drink. The staff are all very friendly. I had the Haggis dish, it was delicious! The gravy was probably the best I ever had. We also had the fish and chips, also very good. As you can see the fish is a very good size. They also have a great selection of local beers. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Outstanding. I reserved several tables for my wife's birthday celebration with our family and friends. I arranged the buffet with ease. Communications with the manager prior to the celebration was excellent and reassured that there was nothing to worry about. On the day, the staff, food and lounge area was honestly outstanding. The staff were professional, attention to detail, kind and friendly. We had the most amazing time and will never forget the newsroom. Big thanks to Karina (manager), such an amazing person and thoughtful. The buffet was on time, hot and tasty. No complaints for me or our party. Friends did comment on the amount of choice there was and said it was magnificent. I would highly highly highly recommend it.
