Visited this evening for pre-dinner cocktails and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great service, really nice atmosphere, really lively. Can wholly recommend the ladybug cocktail and will visit again soon.
Love the idea of lots of mini 'bites' so that you can pick and mix all your eats. The haggis bon bon game is strong. Chorizo is great with bread and the pastry goods are spot on. Love this place for a wee change from the norm of burgers or sandwiches.
I actually went here on a date and really enjoyed it. It was a little busy when we got there, so the restaurant was full but we managed to find a small table, and the staff were really helpful and accommodating. The food was tasty, although the menu was a little small. I really like the whole atmosphere of the restaurant though.
Saturday’s are fast becoming our favourite days after a a long-lie in a lazy brunch and a wander into town we tend to work up an appetite for delicious cocktails.
This Saturday we did just that and found ourselves in Bon Vivant sipping cocktails and nibbling on little delicious bites of food.
It felt weird to leave the sunny streets and enter into the darkness of Bon Vivant but once settled in we were instantly relaxed and ready for the Summer cocktails.
We chose a mixture of gin and rum with fruity accompaniments that brought the sunshine to the table. We’ll be back for more cocktails and another round of little bites - especially the haggis bonbons and pork belly.
The Bon Vivant Stockbridge. Went to the newly opened Bon Vivant in Stockbridge last week and was very impressed. I love the menu where you can choose different sizes of portion, especially the amazingly well priced bites for £1. The food was excellent, really flavourful and fresh. They have lots of wines and champagnes by the glass also, so I had a Romania Pinot Noir which was delicate but earthy, an excellent match for the lamb kofta. The atmosphere was that of a chilled wine bar and it had a really good mix of people. I will certainly be going back for mid-week suppers and special occasions.
The first portion of the menu offers appetizers in "bite" or "starter" portions. The bites are for £1 each while starters range from £3 - £5. In reality, the pricing makes no difference as the starters are just a multiple of the bites - those £3 contain 3 pieces while £4 dishes contain 4 pieces. We ordered a few starters to share amongst our table of four. First up were the vegetable fritters (£3) which had a great golden brown colour. The crust was outstanding with a crispy
For myself I ordered from the 'middle bites' menu, this was serrano ham, olives, bread and manchego cheese served as one dish (on two dishes). It was perfect little afternoon nibbles and I invited D to try and olive or two and some of my ham.
I would have licked the plate clean if nobody was watching. ... I’d have licked someone else’s plate clean if they’d left it unattended.
The Bon Vivant is forging a great name for itself, largely due to the excellent selection of Champagnes they're offering, and all available by the glass. No playing around with Prosecco, or cavorting with Cava. The BV is all about the Champers, and you wi
I love the BonV as my friends and I like to call it! We often come here for a drink before heading elsewhere when we have plans, but last week was the first week I ate here. Inside, Bon Vivant is lovely, dimly lit with a pretty warm and welcoming atmosphere. After reading good reviews about the food and hearing good things about the menu I decided to try it out. Now, the menu was adapted for the festive season so was slightly different than the menu listed. I cannot remember from memory exactly what we had to eat as we tried a few dishes but for all dishes we had to order the larger portion to get a few bites. With the smaller portions (Around £1.50) you only get one piece of something. The dishes I do remember us having included breaded brie balls with a cranberry chutney, baked Haloumi with a pesto and the only other one I can remember was a croquette type dish from sweet potato and chickpeas.
The little dishes were very good and it was nice to try out different things but you do need to order the larger portions if you are hungry! We ordered a side of chunky chips to bulk out our meal so it didn't end up being too expensive.
Overall, a lovely evening with friendly waitresses who were rushed off their feet but still made an incredible effort to attend to everyone.
First night down in Edinburgh and a knowledgeable friend led us to The Bon Vivant for cocktails. I have seen they are award winners and I completely understand why. A very unique menu made it even harder for me to choose than normal, but can't really hold that against them. I ended up choosing the Pan American Clipper (Calvados based, Lime juice and homemade grenadine) and thankfully was very happy with my choice. I get the impression however that you would be hard-pressed to make bad decision from this menu.
It was a bit easier for my mate who ordered the Red Snapper (as they do on most visits) which is a gin-based bloody mary. Described as the best pick-me-up they've ever had!
So The Bon Vivant is a definite must try and you'll want to return to try the rest of the varied menu!
Just this weekend (November 2014) - my god, these mixologists are incredible. Not only did we order drink after drinks, the bartender looked after us so well I'd send him a bottle to say thanks. He asked what cocktail I'd like, and I asked for something fusion and Asian, not too heavy. He made me this ginger spiced cocktail that was sooooo yummy!! Next I asked for something really spicy and white spirit, he made this fireball of chilli cocktail that was like nothing I've ever tasted. I'm coming back again for cocktail nights! Without a doubt!!
First time July 2014 : Went to this really cool place after hearing the reviews. Went in, saw the famous Callum at the bar and the fabby Ryan Pender dashing around this busy vibrant place. Got a table and ordered 8-9 different nibbles and the steak. Cocktail of gin elderflower apple was extremely tasty. Food was excellent and quite quaint.
Very neat place and will be back to try some more.
A nice find! Great food, a big selection of drinks and fast service. Everything we tried was tasty and reasonably priced. Staff was polite and attentive. The only downside is that it can become quite noisy. I would visit again though!
Excellent food and a super nice vibe inside this well decorated Edinburgh bistro. We ate here early one Saturday evening and it was quite rowdy at first but it quietened down a little which was appreciated. The haggis bites as a starter were delicious! Both mains and deserts were well received too. Perhaps not the place if you’re looking for a quiet meal but if you don’t mind the lively atmosphere, it’s worth a visit for the great food!
Delicious Scottish fare, with unique twists to suit any pallet. But the best kept secret are the cocktails and beer selection. Highly recommend
Good cocktails and food. Coravin is used for many of the wines so there are more interesting bottles open to try. Can be a bit loud so if you want a quiet meal this probably isn't the place. The candle lights adds to the ambience.
We ate here after our wedding ceremony. Atmosphere was ideal, drinks were fantastic - we had a range of cocktails, beers and wine. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Ben was fantastic throughout the whole process, great at replying to my emails from booking to date of meal and it was fab we got to see him on the night too. Food was just spot on and the place matched our vibe for the day perfectly - we love it here. Wasn't our first time and definitely won't be our last.
The Bon Vivant was a nice discovery in the Edinburgh dining experience. One of the best places for dinner with a relaxed atmosphere and candle lights.
The place is not too big so I would recommend booking in advance.
The charcuterie board for 2, the bon bons and the mushrooms were my favorites.
The wine menu is also quite big and with honest prices.
Glass of champagne on arrival for the 2 of us a starter and main course each and I had dessert. We had a carafe of wine between us plus another glass each. Bill came to £144.00. If you're looking for a quiet dining venue this isn't for you. We love it, the food is great and the service friendly.
One of the best meals we’ve had in a while! Cozy & cool vibe with great service too.
Pro: Fab atmosphere, cheery staff, good food (although venison wasn’t as tender as would have liked).
Con: House red very mundane. No Sauternes, despite being on the printed dessert list.
Great experience overall, though.
Had lunch here and really enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and they made an extra effort to make sure my lactose intolerant guest was catered for. Would definitely recommend this place for dinner and lunch but would advise you book ahead.
The sun was setting as I walked along to Bon Vivant this Friday night, did I have a reservation? No.
Yet, they made space for us, the staff were so welcoming and helped us choose from both the wine and the dinner menu. They clearly know their wines and are passionate about you having a great experience. As you can see, the food was beautifully presented and wonderfully cooked.
The ambience was so comforting that we continued with dessert, who could say no to this cherry treat! And another glass of their choice of wine.
An all round lovely evening. I highly recommend.
Absolutely incredible Sunday roast! I loved selecting my wine and scotch next door paired with my roast selection. If you haven’t partaken in Sunday roasts in the UK yet, this is among the best spots to do so. Great food great drinks, great service! Give this place a try! You won’t regret it!
The vibe was incredible in the cozy little restaurant. The bar was very impressive. My food was excellent, loved my steak. We all loved the starters too.
Only downside was that one of my friends did order some other meat dish which was very over cooked, making it too tough to eat about 1/3 of it (it’s in the pictures, can’t remember what that dish was called). So maybe don’t order that!
Great food and all around experience!! We loved the ‘bites’ selection and the flavours of each we tired were amazing (sweet potato samosas and haggis bon bons👌🏼). Another highlight was the carrot cake with cream cheese sorbet and candied carrots. A fun twist on a classic. Perfect date spot with the candlelit vibe and excellent food.
I accidentally came across this place ... inside there is a very pleasant atmosphere .. cozy tables lit by candles. I was very tired and special thanks to the waiter Simeon - he was very attentive and responsive. On his recommendation, I ordered a medium rare steak with anchovy sauce and dessert. It was delicious!!!! Highly recommend this restaurant: relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, and Delicious food.
Love the edgy romantic candle lit vibes.
Food is good as always, bites are very well done. Must try haggis bonbons (theirs has a more meaty complex profile with beef offal mixed in as well) and mackerel pate. Their whisky list has expanded a lot with some very interesting trade only finds too. Fair pricing, service 💯
We didn’t have a booking but they managed to squeeze us in for an hour. The mulled wine was delicious, the appetizers were excellent. We shared a main - the venison and it was fantastic.
