Passorn is by far my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. Very authentic and the food is delicious - would highly recommend. Worth visit.. Surely return
This place was amazing! Quite spicy... in a good way! We've not had better Thai food anywhere from the appetizer to dessert! Definitely recommend! We are travelers from the USA. This was easily our most expensive meal out, but absolutely worth it!
An excellent evening out for those with a real passion for fine dining and Thai cuisine. Highly recommend the beef salad, though not for those afraid of the heat. Black rice pudding is a beautiful dessert offering, for the adventurous of visual, but sweet of tooth.
One of my favourite Thai places. But booking is probably essential, especially on weekend naturally.
To me, food is authentic and portion sizes are good. Prices are reasonable too. £8 for a curry and £11 for a main dish.
What I recommend? Their fish dishes for sure! And their red and green curry. Sigh...reminds me of my holidays back in Thailand. All their Thai salads are fantastic and be careful, it's done the Thai way and so definitely has a kick in it.
Last weeks, mid week dining was Passorn. A friend suggested that a group of us meet here for dinner after work.
We went quite early so the atmosphere was not great but the staff were very attentive.
I ordered the spring rolls and a wok dish with coconut rice. The spring rolls were good but a bit peppery, however the chili sauce was delicious. My main was good but I wish I had opted for the Thai red curry as it was very tasty. The coconut rice was a great side dish.
I will definitely be going back to have the Thai red curry but I would probably wait until the weekend, to soak up a better atmosphere.
Extremely good.. After visiting here a few times for lunch before I feel I must leave a comment here after reading the previous review. I never normally leave comments on Urbanspoon however I do check it regularly for places to go and to see how places I have been have rated. Personally, I, nor any of my friends or colleagues, have ever experienced the service and or quality mentioned in the last review. In my experience it has always been of great service and the food to have been of a very high standard. We have always taken advantage of the very affordable pre-theater menu and have yet to be disappointed. I have never had a bad meal or a bad word to say about the staff . I can only urge you to disregard the previous review and try this restaurant for yourself if you haven't already, it really is one of the gems of the area. Really, 87% of people can't be wrong. Nick.
Gorgeous food - the pre-theatre menu was fab and inexpensive. Lovely setting and very friendly and accommodating staff. Very impressed.
We ordered three starters between five of us and we loved the presentation of everything served. Aob Chey was the first of the starters to arrive and this is thai chicken satay skewers. The chicken had a chargrilled effect and the peanut sauce really was heavenly. The cucumber sauce provided a sharper, cleaner option after the creamy peanut. The beef tenderloin salad was bursting with taste. The mint, kaffir lime and lemongrass provided freshness to cut through rich tamari
Passorn is a real hidden gem in Tollcross and is ideally situated for those heading to the theatre or cinema. The food was absolutely delicious and service was friendly and attentive, we can't fault the food and can't wait to go back.
Sawadee Ka!
I’ve recently done a post on our ladies weekend in Edinburgh but I decided that Passorn deserved their own post – the presentation was too good.
I have eaten in a restaurant in the West End of Edinburgh once before & My Big Fat Greek Kitchen suitably impressed me. So when I was surprised with another visit to the area recently I had high hopes. This time it was to visit Passorn – a Thai restaurant that my mum had scouted out.

The chicken had a chargrilled effect and the peanut sauce really was heavenly. The cucumber sauce provided a sharper, cleaner option after the creamy peanut.
The beef tenderloin salad was bursting with taste. The mint, kaffir lime and lemongrass provided freshness to cut through rich tamarind & chillies.
The Puan Kan – Bangkok fish cakes – were delicately spiced and had just enough red chilli heat. We enjoyed the prawn cake & the fish cake, and the kaffir lime through them was a big hit.
Pla Ma Now is a seabass dish with red chilli, lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime and lime juice. The delicate fish just about held its own with the other ingredients and this dish had quite a kick. I think this was my favourite main course.
The first of our stir-fry type dishes was Pad Med Hinmapan. We loved the cashews in this wok dish. The spring onion and peppers were tossed in the sauce of chilli and thai sweet basil with chicken.
My choice of red thai curry with chicken is the nicest red thai curry that I’ve tasted, ever. The spicy and rich flavours smacked you in the face whilst the creaminess calmed it down. I loved it.
I can guarantee that my mum will almost always pick a stir-fry style dish with garlic and ginger in a thai restaurant and her selection this time was Gratium Prig Tai. Alongside garlic and ginger, they had used black pepper and coriander to season the chicken.
Pad Thai was full of nuttiness and came with chilli flakes and crushed nuts on the side. The chicken was moist and beansprouts provided crunch for the dish.
Too stuffed for dessert, we went for cocktails instead. The fruity combos were cold and refreshing.
My parents are big fans of Thai food so when I go for Thai it tends to be with them. I’ll be making an exception for Passorn though, and visiting again soon with whoever happens to be with me in Edinburgh.
Price range: Starters £5.60 – £8.50, main courses £11.25 – £19.50, house wine £15.45 (bottle)
We were on the lookout for somewhere new to eat around the Tollcross area and stumbled upon Passorn Thai.
Upon entering we were provided with a warm welcome, service is always so precise and pleasant in Thai restaurants and this was no different.
For starters we ordered Spring Rolls and Khu Muan - Mr and Mrs (King Prawns), we also requested a bottle of water and the restaurant's finest house white wine.
Mr and Mrs Prawn were a match made in heaven, whilst not clear in the menu we assumed that Mr Prawn was the one wearing the filo suit, smartly dressed and ready for consumption. Mrs Prawn wore a frilly number, a lightly batter and very fancy. Both prawns were cooked to perfection, EdinBloggette's favourite was Mr Prawn whilst I preferred Mrs Prawn. Both were a delight though and an excellent start to our meal.
Our second starter was beautifully presented and packed with flavour, the little parcels of pleasure were gone in a flash.
If I'm in a Thai restaurant I'll order a Green Curry, it's my go to meal and provides a good basis for comparison between restaurants. EdinBloggette is more adventurous and opted for Pad Cha, clearly drawn in by the description "this dish is for those who love spicy food". When ordering our mains we were asked what level of spice we would like, from 1 to 5, EdinBloggette played safe with a Level 3 whilst I pushed the boat out and visited Level 4.
The Pad Cha arrived and looked lovely, a great mix of chilli, aubergine, basil and chicken. As it turns out Level 3 was pretty spicy, it was incredibly tasty though - the water soon came in handy, no longer did constant refills seem like a bad idea.
The Thai Green curry was milder than the Pad Cha, the heat from the chilli would creep up on you and give a tight hug rather than jump out from an alley and scream at you. The dish was so creamy and chicken was lovely and tender, bite after bite I was starting to think we may have stumbled upon the best Thai to date in Edinburgh (this would require more discussion and could not be based on my curry alone).
To accompany the two mains we ordered a steamed rice with coconut and crispy onion. This was a source of relief for EdinBloggette, the slightly creamy nature of the rice provided a little relief from the spice of the Pad Cha and absorbed the sauce from the Thai Green Curry almost as well as me.
We were lucky to have stumbled upon Passorn, the tagline is Angelic Thai Dining, which is entirely justified given the heavenly combinations in flavour. We'll be certain to return to try out some of the other dishes, after a brief discussion we agreed that Passorn has to be the best Thai we've had in Edinburgh to date, totally Thairrific and worthy of our EdinBraw seal of approval.

Prim was our waitress, she was lovely, very friendly and polite. Our food and drinks were delicious. We will be back, such a little gem off the beaten track.
Once again the food was spicy, tasty, interesting and absolutely delicious. My little beef salad was so tasty. And then there is the Black Tower dessert, I'm lost for words here...sweet, salty, hot, cold, fruity, tropical and just delicious! Yum! This place is a must for spice lovers.
One of the best Thai meals I have had. The Seabass Salad was to die for as was the rest of our meal. Will recommend to friends and family to visit when visiting Edinburgh.
We had a party of 7 as a surprise birthday party at Passorn and really liked the place. The food was extremely well prepared and full of flavour. The staff really attentive and helpful. My wife who celebrated her birthday also really enjoined the place.
The only slight gripe I had was that I had arranged for the surprise party that we'd be guided to the table with our friends already waiting there. I had confirmed with the owner minutes before arriving with my wife that one person on the reservation was not sure if they'd arrive on time or would still have to cancel. Yet the moment I walked back into the restaurant the owner who I had just told minutes earlier about the total people attending stopped me and my wife asking to confirm if the reservation was for 7 8 or 9 and this spoiled the final surprise as my wife assumed it was just the two of us up to that point.

Arguably one of the best Thai restaurants in Edinburgh. Food tastes incredible. The beef salad’s refreshing with a slight spice kick whilst the Massaman curry is rich, creamy and sweet. Service is excellent. The food I ordered came from the set Lunch. A bargain considering how good the food taste. Highly recommended!
