Living in the local area, this is the place we bring friends to when they are visiting (think we’ve been 5/6 times in the past year). It’s quite small inside so you should always book as far in advance as possible, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. The food is always so fresh and well presented, my favourite being the haggis bon bons. Would definitely recommend coming here for a relaxed dinner.
We managed to get a table last minute on a Sunday night for 3 and it was an incredible experience. The food is very reasonably priced and the quality is exceptional. I recommend the beef spring rolls as a small bite, absolutely delicious. The ambience and decor is lovely and intimate, the waiting staff are attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and we tried quite a few dishes! Would recommend to anyone in the area.
In Stockbridge enjoying the sun when hunger kicked in. I suggested Rollo, and I'm glad I did. Managed to get a seat outside, bonus. We were adamant that it wasn't a day for a Sunday roast...until the menu arrived with two fabulous roast options...pork belly or peppered beef fillet. We both opted for the beef fillet-and chose two of their bites to start. First was the ham hock bon bon which was soooo tasty. Then came the veg Pakora with mushroom and red pepper tapenades and bread. WOW. Suitably impressed with the starters-out came the beef and Yorkie. We got the mustard mash and honey carrots as sides. What...a....dish. beef was tender, lovely gravy and the Yorkie was something else. Service was as good as the food-regular top ups of water. Please go to Rollo!
Ann decided to book us for lunch following a recent business trip away. I want on top form but the food was delicious and very well presented. We started with the haggis bonbons with whisky marmalade which were phenomenal. If you go here (and I recommend you do) have the bonbons. I then moved on to the belly pork which was cooked to perfection, crispy cracking and mouth melting belly. Ann had the pan seared scallops which again were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Ann finished with the Banana toffee bread and butter pudding with peanut ice cream. I'm a big fan of bread and butter pudding and can say this one was top notch! All in all a fantastic lunch!
We've been meaning to check out Rollo a number of times but they are usually very busy. However, we finally managed to get a last minute lunch slot one afternoon and were very pleased with the overall experience. The food served is all locally sourced and exceptionally good quality. We went for the haggis bon bond for starters and they were lovely. For the mains we went for a tapas style choice of scallops, belly pork and salad. All very delicious and beautifully cooked. We went for the bread and butter pudding with peanut ice cream and that was spectacular. The service was very efficient too. A super experience and I can't wait to go back for another meal!
We are a family of 5 and dropped in without a reservation whilst on a trip to Edinburgh. The staff were so helpful and very good with the kids. The food was excellent, and the friendly service just as good.Thank you so much to the staff at Rollo
The menu at Rollo is a mix of bite sized dishes, ‘bowls’ and ‘plates’ – perfect for a long, lazy lunch. We were surprised to find the place absolutely rammed on a Friday lunchtime, make sure you book. Despite being incredibly busy, the staff were so attentive and friendly, instantly making us feel very welcome.
My boyfriend's sister turned 18 this week and everyone decided to come to Edinburgh to celebrate. On a recommendation from family they booked Rollo for dinner. We had a table booked for 8 people at 8.30pm but some of our party were running behind, luckily so were Rollo. We went for a drink and then came back at 9.
We were seated straight away and offered their large wine menu. We chose a couple of different bottles of wine and then poured over the food menu.
There are so many delicious bowls and plates that it's hard to choose! We decided to order a few different bites between us and then a bowl or plate each. We opted for the haggis bon bon's, mackerel bon bon's and breaded aubergine (we got 2x everything). I then chose the Thai green curry bowl for my main dish.
Everything arrived very well timed. We didn't have to wait too long for the starters, and there was the perfect amount of time between the starters and the mains. Both of the bon bon's were excellent, I would definitely order those again. The aubergine was good but I found the texture a bit strange. I had been warned that my curry was very spicy, and the waitress was not wrong. However, I spooned my curry into my rice which meant I could add as much or little sauce as I liked. I found the curry delicious, very tasty. I would order it again but there are other items that also sounded very pleasing, so I would like to give them a try!
Although we were stuffed, we order a couple of affogato's and a bannanna. I am not a coffee drinker but everyone seemed to enjoy the affogato, and the bannanna was amazing!
The service was great, very attentive. Sometimes the waitress did try to oversell, which was a bit irritating, but otherwise it was lovely. Everyone was very friendly. The food and wine were both fantastic and the setting is perfect for a special occasion or a romantic dinner.
Lovely food. Small tapas style dishes that all go together well. Lovely wine served by friendly staff. The pork belly dish I had was very tasty. Must go again soon.
Excellent. Glass front. Welcoming candlelit interior. Disciplined and eclectic service. Exceptional dishes including bites to moe substantial plates and rewarding sides. Adequate wine list buffered by Leffe by the bottle. Nearly faultless on a Thursday night
Had a fantastic birthday meal in here recently. Everyone had been telling me how good it was. Quirky, fun waitress with a good sense of humour. Food was fab and beautifully presented. Yum.
I like this place. It's small with nice and different kind of food that you'd get everywhere. Wine list is ambitious in a positive way! The music it's a bit loud for me when it's busy time. You can't relax as much as you'd expect in a wine bar while sipping your lovely wine. I'll go back and try again!
Rollo is a fabulous place to eat in Edinburgh. Located in a very nicely decorated little venue in Stockbridge, they serve delicious bites along with awesome wines. The only bad thing is that it is so popular now that you need to book ahead, which makes difficult going there as often as I would love to.
Fabulous - can't fault it - definitely my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh! I eat out alot in Edinburgh and I keep coming back to Rollo... Service amazing... Food amazing... Atmosphere amazing...
It was the first time I'd been on a Sunday and I took advantage of the delicious roast beef option - coupled with (as always) the 'bon bon' bites as a starter... Wish I'd been hungrier because the puddings looked amazing too...
Had lunch here with a friend last week, service was laid back and friendly.
We each did the bon bon wine flight which was fantastic. 3 bon bons (prawn, goat cheese & haggis) paired with 3 different wines.
Followed by portobello mushrooms for her and tuna steak for me. The mushrooms seemed to be oozing pesto and judging by the amount of green left on the plate, could maybe have done with a bit less. My tuna steak was perfectly cooked but the mango salsa was lacking the 'zing' that I was hoping for.
I love the idea of tapa style bite size plates and the wine list is varied and easily navigated so I'd happily head back for the wine list and a light bite though probably wouldn't consider it solely as a dining option.

We have another new eatery in Stockbridge, this one in the form of a cozy wine bar. The interior is dark and romantic, accented with giant head sculptures and comfortable custom pillows. We were made to feel welcome from the start, and the service was good throughout.
The wine list is diverse and approachable, with short descriptions to help guide your choice. Around 15 wines are offered by the glass. Every wine we tried was good, and the prices seemed about average for this area.
The food plates are mostly designed for sharing. We started with the smoked aubergine on toast and mull crab bon bons, followed by the portobello mushrooms and the monkfish Thai curry. Portions are small but priced accordingly, which works out well if you'd like to try several different things. The Thai curry was my favorite dish. The mushrooms were delicious if just a tad too oily. The starters were interesting, but not amazing.
For dessert we split a ginger sticky toffee pudding, which was small and tasty (and came with a disproportionately large side of clotted cream).
Overall a lovely evening out.
Rollo has recently opened, just across the road from Scran & Scallie, on Raeburn Place. A smart wine bar with a focus on informal dining, it has room for around twenty five people, in its mood-lit aubergine and dark wood interior.
Their menu is spread across “bites”, “plates” and “bowls”, with an array of different dishes to suit a range of needs and circumstances.
As I crossed the threshold, the warm was welcome and immediately accommodating. I was dining after putting the finishing touches to my Christmas Eve panic buying adventure, which had concluded in Toys Galore, just across the road, with the acquisition of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Consequently I was almost entirely braindead, but was looked after most graciously in my fractured state.
I ordered one bite and one plate, opening with smoked aubergine and toast, then following with a portobello mushroom rarebit.
To the strains of Julio Iglesias, my dishes appeared. Both looked simple, but had an air confidence about them. In that way, they rather summed up the place, as a whole.
The aubergine puree was wonderfully smoky, served with crisp, rustic toast. It hit the spot, dead centre.
The three mushrooms, topped with spinach and cheese were equally delightful. Again, the dish was an assured and pleasing piece of cooking.
So overall, Rollo is a very welcome new addition to Stockbridge’s dining scene. Considering how new the place was at the time of my visit, it felt incredibly settled and established, which is in no small measure down to the service, which is impressively warm and attentive. I’d recommend a visit, next time you’re looking for a classy and elegant location for a relaxed catch-up with friends.

Absolutely wonderful do not walk past this place. My partner and I walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night and the friendly waiter squeezed us in for a table. The decor is so cosy and warm with such a friendly comforatble vibe. The staff are extremely well trained and polite and couldn't be more helpful. The female owner was lovely and expertly ran her lovrly restaurant whilst tending to all of the customers in the place. As for the food, we had the lamb salad which is absolutely divine along with scallops, pork belly and sides. The food was all absolutely delicious and we cleaned our plates. For dessert we had the chocolate tart which was ridiculous. A perfect balance of sweet with heavenly white chocolate ice cream. Do yourself a favour and go to this place.
A cosy Stockbridge restaurant with an eclectic menu. We popped in here for a quick bite to eat on a Monday evening. We were warmly welcomed and ordered bowls of paella and halloumi & tabouleh salad, which were excellent.
There’s a great selection of wine-by-the-glass and the Sancerre rosé was lovely. We particularly appreciated being able to go off-menu with dessert, and we had scoops of peanut butter ice cream and a virgin affogato. When the bill came, this was all sorted seamlessly which was a good touch.
First time I been here. Had a meal with my girlfriend. Love the atmosphere and got awesome service by a guy called Murray. He was really friendly and very informative as to their selection in regards to what dishes we should try. I told him what kind of food I like and he suggested what I should get. He was spot on! I couldnt be any happier. Also the presentation of the food and the quality is top notch. Its just the right portion and beautifully cooked. Not to mention the right wine to go with it too. So if anyone wants a great meal this is a place to go. Im definitely going back. :)
Possibly the best little spot in Edinburgh! Superbly fresh food, brilliant wine selection, and exceptional hospitality - even to an Englishman! Outstanding venison, flavoursome haggis bon bons...just magnificent!
Service was a bit slow, waiting a fair amount of time between drinks service and coming back to take the food order.
But it was so worth it, the food was really very nice
Amazing place and food ! It’s Quite unusual to get food that is so fresh, excellent and well réalised. Thanks 🙏
Stumbled on this place on Thursday, which ended up being the best decision ever! The food is just BLIMEY FANTASTIC and the service from both waitresses was just first class, they were so welcoming and helpful! We were so blown away we went back for lunch on Friday (and made the commute over even though it was all the way on the other side of town). Stop by and get a feed here – you won't regret it!!
Brilliant dinner - food was excellent, really great range of wines by the glass and lovely service!
Between moving and covid it had been nearly 2 years since our last visit to Rollo, however it's an good as ever.
As it was a gorgeous sunny Saturday evening the outside tables were occupied and fully booked but the cool, shaded interior was welcomed.
Plexiglas dividers separate each table, whilst permitting light to flow through the room.
As always the wines are excellent, and with a few more unusual wines amongst the list there are new gems to find. The food is excellent, with the small bites brilliant for sharing it you don't fancy a full meal.
At the risk of being able to get booked in, highly recommended.
Came here for a birthday dinner. Really lovely setting. The wine and food was amazing and was complemented by an excellent service. We moved and sat outside in the evening and they have cosy blankets that you can use to keep you nice and warm.
