We stumbled on this place while on a day trip to Edinburgh. On entering we were greeted by the friendly staff and ordered drinks. We had only planned to visit for one drink before heading back down towards the shopping area but then we saw the gin menu!!! The choice of gins is brilliant and the 3 of us certainly gave that menu a good go!! Would certainly recommend the plum and vanilla one!! We decided to have lunch too and the food was fab.....the cheeseboard was excellent. The table service was an added bonus and our whole experience was a delight! The guy who served us (think his name was Greg) was friendly and was happy to recommend the gins....he did a great job!! We stayed here for almost 3 hours and had we not had to leave to get our coach we would probably have stayed longer! Would highly recommend.
This pub is on the royal mile so we were expecting it to be super busy, luckily it wasn’t. We were there for lunch with our two children.
They had a great kids goody bag that was perfect, half a sandwich, crisps, chocolate and juice.
We ordered some local beer, both of which were very nice and also the ploughmans and a soup and sandwich. The ploughman wasn’t the best, it was quite small and there was no apple. The scotch egg was lovely though, as was the bread.
The soup and sandwich was carrot and red lentil, it was OK, needed salt of which I couldn’t find any.
The sandwich was Brie, ham and tomato chutney, it was amazing!!’ The bread they use is to die for and the chutney was just incredible. Best sandwich ever!
The service was lovely and the atmosphere was typical British pub, quaint, warm, nice :)
Worth a try!!
We ha a Delicious home made venison pie! So yummy. Great local live music too! Great experience would defiantly come again. Loved the cosy atmosphere
I have walked past this pub on previous occasions but never bothered to enter, thinking that it was a typical tourist trap. To my surprise I discovered that this pub is larger than it looked from the outside. This is the closest pub to Edinburgh Castle. The place is friendly and welcoming, and they are used to dealing with hordes of tourists. The food is good and they have a good selection of beverages. Worth a visit if you are here.
Lovely, friendly little place on the Royal Mile, recommended by the Royal Mile Whiskies specialist whisky merchant a few minutes walk away. I wasn't sure what I wanted to try, but the very helpful bar maid suggested smelling the fragrance of three to help me decide. I went for one of the Skye whiskies, to try something new. It was lovely.
Fantastic place to find interesting and rare whiskies in the heart of Edinburgh. Staff are always good chat and helpful and the place always has a nice buzz about it. To top it off, live folk music most evenings after 9pm. This is my favourite watering hole in the city by far.
Amazing pub with very friendly staff who are extremely knowledgeable regarding the drinks they offer! The bartender's were more than happy to recommend and go into detail about each whiskey behind the bar. I couldn't fault it one bit. A cosy (and clean) place with a great atmosphere especially with live music in the evenings! Recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh
We had a great time here. I enjoyed a flight of whiskey (the four regions) and we shared some food. The flight was great and came very generous pours. Service was incredibly friendly and the garlic bread was delicious.
We loved this ancient pub. Mulled wine, guiness and cocktails all went down while, wr made 3 visits on 3 days.
Really nice place with a very good choice of whiskey would definitely recommend
We had a really fabulous evening at this pub! Friday evening music was amazing! 👏 - Irish folk style acoustic band - we got chatting to other people around us and it was a really good friendly atmosphere! Great pub! We didn't eat there on this occasion just had drinks - including several whiskey tastes! 😃 🍺 🍻 🍷 🥂🍸
Food was lovely, nice little lunch. Espresso martini was banging, really enjoyed it. Unfortunately the staff were not overly attentive, so we skipped dessert as we were waiting a long time (we were right in front of the bar) the staff were chatting up at the bar and didn't seem to notice. 10% charge was automatically added, which peeved me.
We spent some time in here for drinks which were delicious! I had a few different gin drinks with their mixers that they recommend. Very nice small pub with a variety of alcohol and food options. Great service and would definitely go back.
Polite, friendly staff, very welcoming. Good selection of spirits and draught beer for average price in Edinburgh. Live music daily from 9pm. Would return here again
