Not your usual vegetarian restaurant. Cosy lighting & seating. They have well thought of dishes as well as incorporating flavors of the East to make things even more tasty.

Often as a vegetarian one can look for a vegetarian restaurant online and be very disappointed when one eats there. Not true in this case. Enjoyed everything - the food was great, superb staff and nice wines. Thoroughly recommend

In Edinburgh to drop my son, who is Vegan, to college here.

My last night before I head back to Dublin and we decided we'd go this highly rated Vegetarian Restaurant.

I had the blue cheese tartlet to start. I was told this would take 15 minutes as it's prepared from fresh. The menus and the web page declare no microwaves and all food prepared freshly.

I didn't doubt it! What arrived was mouth watering and delicious. Freshly prepared and piping hot. Wow.

Four our next course my son had the chick pea wrap. I had the Spicy Chilli with chocolate no less guacamole and sour cream. Unbelievable.

My son said his was mouthwatering and a huge portion. Neither of us left a morsel on the plate.

For our deserts I had the Hot Peach and Raspberry Tart with Chocolate ice Cream while my son had the Raspberry Jelly and Lemon Cake. "The Lemon Cake was the best bit" to directly quote a satisfied customer and mine again was wow.

All served by the most pleasant of servers particularly the male one who was fun and professional.

And all for £59.00.

All in all without doubt next time I'm in Edinburgh I'm going here.

While this restaurant was something I had planned on later for a celebration, we couldn’t help not getting in here after our hike from Arthur’s seat early this month.

While I am unhappy that we were not appropriately dressed for it, I am glad we still made it to an early dinner before people arrived to see us the way we were.

We started off with White Russian (good in taste but not at all potent) for me and Rose Lemonade for my husband. Both of these were perfect to begin the meal.

Along with the drinks we shared an appetizer of deep fried fritters (I cannot remember the name, but the picture is attached). For the mains, I had the lentil pancake stuffed with curried mushrooms (cannot remember the name and description but the picture is attached) and my husband had the Veggies with Udon noodles. Everything we had was excellent and I am hoping to return and try the other stuff someday soon.

Moolah – Approx. 43 GBP for one cocktail, 1 lemonade, 1 appetizer and 2 mains.

Pros – Good food, great innovative menu choice, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful décor, comfortable and ample seating.

Tip – The restaurant is semi casual but is worth a formal dressing!

Tip 2 – The menu on Zomato is an old one. The new one has updated pricing and choices.

Recommended – Weekend dinners, celebrations, date nights.

One of the best veggie/restaurants I’ve ever been to, always a must when visiting Edinburgh. Service is excellent, menu varied and top notch (mole sauce a favorite), and deserts just heavenly!

Brilliant concept. Vegan and vegetarian options on the menu with a great wine and cocktail selection to accompany the list. Entrees were extensive and hard to choose between. Can't go wrong really. We had pesto tagliatelle with vegetables and the baked goats cheese with pesto and sun dried vegetables. The proseco and cocktails were delicious too. Mains were risotto and a tofu and vegetable stir fry. We began with a delightful selection of bread. Lovely meal.

It is a Paradise for vegetarian foodies.
They have a elaborate menu having a variety of items such as risotto and lasagne. They have a good bar menu and you can have some drinks to go down with the amazing spread.
It's an Amazing place for big portion meals and is Very centrally located .
I tried the Risotto of Roasted Red pepper with kale and white radish which was great. And ib tried Stir fried vegetables with Upon noodles and smoked tofu . must try .

Vegetarian food more interesting than a mushroom risotto or a veggie lasagne is hard to come by at the best of times. It seems that in many places the chefs and cooks spend lots of time perfecting their interesting and unusual meat dishes and more often than not the token veggie option is just an after thought to keep us pesky non meat eaters appeased often leaving us underwhelmed by the dining experience.

For a food lover and vegetarian like myself, David Banns was a breath of fresh air. Once the novelty of not having to look for the V in the menu (they do have it but it stands for vegan) had worn off, I chose the smoked cheese and caramelised onion tartlet to start, the mushroom stroganoff for my main and the chocolate soufflé with home made vanilla ice cream for dessert. The staff we friendly and the food both delicious and reasonably priced. I was there with a friend and we had three courses each and a bottle of wine and it was less than £70. I would definitely recommend David Banns and I will definitely be back!

My review of this is simple. I'm a 'meat-eater'. I love my meat. But I love David Bann...a vegetarian restaurant. And all our friends we've brought here..? All meat lovers too. And they are all pleasantly surprised how much they like it too. Their menu changes with the season. But if you happen to be there when these dishes are on, I highly recommend these; the starter tomato soup ravioli, the starter polenta, their blue cheese soufflé, the risotto, mushroom strudel, etc.

We went to vegetarian restaurant David Bann for dinner, which reminded me of Mildreds back in London. Viv and Ross had the beetroot, bramley apple and Dunsyre blue cheese mousse. It sounded rather interesting although I have to admit that I was not quite a fan of it. I could probably have it as a small starter but not quite as a main meal. I ordered the safer option of the Risotto of asparagus, celery and lemon. Nice and creamy, although it could have done with a bit more seasoning.
For dessert we ordered the Assiette of desserts for 2 to share (or 3!) which consisted of vanilla and whisky pannacotta, homemade chocolates filled with sambuca, coffee and white chocolate, hot apple, cinnamon and calvados tart, with raspberry ice cream and pineapple sorbet. It is not that big a portion as it sounds, but at least you get to try all the different desserts.
My favourite amongst them was the tart which was nice and warm and went well with the cold ice cream. The pannacotta was also pretty good.

I would probably have to try more dishes next time  to have a better opinion on the restaurant as a whole, but it seems like a pretty decent vegetarian restaurant option.

I love this place. An air of fine dining without the pricetag (I suspect costs are lowered significantly without meat on the menu) and with amazing food. There is something for everyone from a gravy and mash dish, amazing soups and more imaginative mains and desserts. I was particularly fond of the ginger and lime dessert when I ate here.

We ate here after visiting Edinburgh and coming accross it on Urbanspoon. We are both vegetarian but can't stand the hippy atmosphere and menu of most veggie restaurants. David Banns was a refreshing change with a beautiful restaurant, modern menu and no hint of dreadlocks or hemp. The food was fantastic and I can't reccommend the chocolate soufflé enough! Just make sure you don't order one to share! All in all the perfect vegetarian restaurant if you don't like vegetarian restaurants... you get what I mean!

You Don't Miss the Meat. Having grown up with a vegetarian in the house, I have a slightly higher opinion of standard of vegetarian cuisine than many, but rarely encounter a vegetarian restaurant that helps my cause in an argument. For some reason the prevailing attitude amongst vegetarian restauranteurs seems to be 'As long as I didn't put meat in it, I don't need to bother with any flair, skill or flavour.' Far too often I've eaten vegetables that have been treated more respect & infinitely more imagination in a carnivores paradise, than a supposed veggie haven.
David Bann is a proud exception. His dishes are wonderfully crafted, full of flavour and beautifully presented. I would go so far as to say that if you didn't mention to someone that it was a vegetarian menu & ordered for them, they would be half way through the main course before they spotted the lack of meat. The restaurant itself looks great, has a wonderful ambience & is nicely situated just off the Royal Mile.
All in all it, passes the most important test, it's a great restaurant first and vegetarian restaurant second, which is rare & delightful combination.

It has long been a running joke in my relationship with T that just as he will never get me to go McDonalds, he will never eat at David Bann's . Last night T and I ventured to David Bann's for a vegetarian dinner. I am still not going to McDonalds though.

Amazing vegetarian restaurant in a great central location. As a vegetarian who is used to going to a restaurant where there's only 2 meat-free options on the menu (if I'm lucky!) it was a nice change to go somewhere where the menu is just vegetarian and has a wide range of food to offer!

I had the chilli pancake with chocolate sauce which was surprisingly delicious! My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my birthday and even though he's a dedicated meat eater he enjoyed the food just as much as me. The low lighting made for quite a romantic feel although there were groups of friends dining in the restaurant too. The staff were all lovely too.

I definitely recommend to all vegetarians or for those who want to try something a little different.

It’s a vegetarian restaurant where half or more of the dishes are vegan or can be adjusted to be vegan. It’s a nice restaurant and great for a celebration.

On an aside, we took Cs vegetarian niece to David Bann’s for dinner one weekend only to find out that she’s a pescatarian. Labels are tricky when you’re eight. Saying that, she still enjoys veggie food and had fun selecting a meal from things she didn’t know what they were. We got to exercise our powers of description. Smoked tofu. You have 60 seconds. Go! She had a vat of soup, noodles (although we ate the smoked tofu) and could just fit in dessert. We had a great evening.

I confess, I haven't been to that many vegetarian restaurants, but one year we decided to go to David Bann because it was recommended. I'm not technically a vegetarian, but one day a year, I like to keep to a vegetarian diet for belief purposes. I wasn't sure exactly what my experience would be, but I was impressed by the romantic and simple yet modern decor. The dark walls and dim lighting gives the dining area a very romantic feel, the mirrors as you come through the door lets you see through to the dining area and makes the restaurant feel bigger. My favourite part? After visiting David Bann a few times over the past few years, I still look up at their lighting fixtures, which if you're seated in the back room area by the way, reminds you of watching the stars above at night.

The menu offers a lot of choice for a vegetarian restaurant, some dishes (marked [V]) can also be made vegan on request. I'm quite a picky eater and I'm not too adventurous at all, but was impressed (as always) by the quality and presentation of the food. The prices aren't extortionate either, but the service and the food you're served makes you feel as if you're being wined and dined at a 5-star Michelin restaurant.

I had the caramelised onion, sun-dried tomato and goat cheese tarlet which was divine, the smoked tofu and broccoli fritters that my partner ordered was also a surprisingly good combination. We all went with the mushroom loaf in filo pastry which fulfilled my mushroom obsession and I had a hard time trying to decide between dessert! One thing was clear though was the ice cream was made in house - the raspberry ice cream had fresh raspberry pieces in them and the vanilla ice cream that was served with my dark chocolate souffle was out of this world. Have you seen the presentation of the ginger and lime ice cream with orange cake?

Are you convinced yet?

Had a 3 course late lunch with no reservation - polenta, risotto variations and chocolate cake and a couple glasses of wine. All very flavorful, filling and well presented. Excellent, quick and friendly service. Exceptional vegan restaurant!

I went here for a team dinner. Restaurant was very busy when we went in. Despite this, service was fairly quick. The restaurant is fully vegetarian, and the menu has both vegan and non-gluten options. I had the gnocchi for the starter and the parsnips for the mains; this is the first time I had either of these dishes, but both seemed quite good. For desert I had the chocolate soufflé which was excellent.

This place was so good! Fancy but not too fancy. We showed up at 5, but you’ll probably need a reservation as they filled up quick after that! Specially highly recommend the vegan haggis!

A delicious reasonably priced meal that was a little bit of luxury but not pretentious. It was so lovely to go to a vegetarian only restaurant that celebrated cuisines from around the world. Service was very attentive, quick and it was really nice to get bread and butter whilst you chose from the menu. We managed to get a table walk in on a Sunday evening but it may be worth booking if you are certain you want to visit. The food was delicious and was carefully curated. It was clear the chefs cared about the food quality and celebrating simple ingredients. The drinks were also lovely. For a non alcoholic drink each, main and dessert each for 2 people the bill was £51 which was very reasonable for the food quality and service. I would recommend visiting here and would certainly visit again. A friend recommended this place and they were very correct.

This restaurant was recommended to my wife and I by our eldest daughter who visited a little while ago. The service was welcoming as was the restaurant. We both had a main and pudding. The food was excellent. This is probably our favourite of all the vegetarian restaurants we have ever been to. We cannot recommend here enough

Booked a table for my husbands birthday. The service and the food were brilliant. Lots of choice if you are vegetarian or vegan. At the end of our meal the waiter came over with a birthday sweet and candle which was a nice touch! Would highly recommend

Stumbled upon this gem as it was right by our hotel. Fully vegetarian with most dishes being vegan or able to made vegan. Absolutely loved everything I tried. Lovely restaurant inside with very attentive and polite staff. 100% will return when next in Edinburgh
