We had to change our booking from Thursday night to Saturday night due to illness. The staff were excellent and accommodating. We had a fantastic night once again at this fabulous hotel. The ambiance in Rhubarb is just perfect. My husband had the guineafowl and even though my fish dish was excellent I did have food envy. Thank you Prestonfield for making Saturday our Valentine's Day.

Rhubarb is one of my favourite dining establishments in Edinburgh; it's luxurious and opulent, but without any pretentiousness. Located within the stunning Prestonfield House Hotel, the ambiance and decor are both incredible. The circular dining rooms are adorned with Victorian style drapes, rich fabrics, and antiques, and the large windows provide views of the beautiful grounds and Arthur's Seat in the distance.

I've been to Rhubarb twice - once for dinner and once for afternoon tea - and both were fantastic experiences.

I sampled a three course dinner in October as part of the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival. Soup, hake, and a chocolate lava cake - all three courses were beautifully presented and delicious. We finished the meal with a cheese board, which was served in one of the drawing rooms on the upper level. Four Scottish cheeses, quince paste, truffled honey, and oatcakes - it was divine!

Champagne afternoon tea was also delightful. It may not seem like a large amount of food, but my friend and I both left full and satisfied. There's an assortment of sandwiches, two savoury items, scones with clotted cream and jam, and various cakes and sweets. Standouts include the fresh scones with home-made raspberry jam, goat cheese pastry, and chocolate passionfruit macaron. The champagne was lovely as well.

The service is top-notch, and every staff member is friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

I can't recommend Rhubarb highly enough!

This place is spectacular! The location is stunning. Countryside villa with dining Rooms, details are incredible, service kind and elegant but not too much, even in jeans you can feel comfortable. The lounge rooms upstairs are my favourite part, feel s like going back in time. Not cheap at all but worth every penny

I decided to book dinner at Rhubarb for the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival, for my boyfriend and I. The Restaurant Festival is a great chance to try fine dining restaurants at a discount price. Rhubarb has an excellent reputation; James Thomson has a few high class restaurants in Edinburgh, because of this my expectations were very high.
I love Prestonfield House, it is a beautiful building and perfect for a cold Autumn/Winter evening. The restaurant is filled with heavy drapes and warm, crimson colours. The service we received here was great, except we had to ask for the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival menu, despite stating that was the menu we wanted when booking. Also the menu that is published online for the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival is different from the one we were given. Luckily it was sill a great menu.
To start, I ordered the salmon, followed by the hake and finally, the chocolate dessert. I thoroughly enjoyed my entire meal, especially the chocolate desert, which was a chocolate molten lava cake. I would The best part is that I got all of this delicious food for £25. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Rhubarb offer a 3 course menu for £35 out with the festival, which would definitely encourage me to go back. I would also go back for a special occasion, as it is a lovely setting with a very exclusive feel.

I was actually upstairs in what used to be the smoke room - nestled by the fire and under plaster cupids for afternoon tea (which included a cheeky gin and tonic).
The food was plentiful and pretty well faultless - delicious sandwiches, mini savoury bites, plain and fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and four lovely little cakes.
The tea itself was a little disappointing and I would say service was a little off (the door staff were lovely and attentive though).
It wasn't all that practical having everything sit on a narrow, soft footstool (with our gin on the floor) though I suppose it added to the casual sumptuousness.
But it's the kind of place I could spend hours in given the chance - lounging on chairs curled up with wine and poking about the rooms, or perched outside in summer Great Gatsby-style with a cocktail. Lookout for the sweet little nook off a stone turret stair which you can hire for two...

It's about the whole experience, not just the food. Service is ok, food is high quality, the place is phenomenal! Thumbs up!

Victoriana at its finest. This restaurant in the Prestonfield Hotel, is utterly sumptuous. High Victoriana, there are drapes and chandeliers wherever you look and every details is perfect, in the service, the food and the winelist.

Prestonfield has a reputation for luxury, opulence, decadence and indulgence. I've twice before, some years ago, and on both occasions food and service were exceptionally good. The Hotel looks simple from the outside but inside is grand, sumptuous and elegant. At Christmas it looks particularly wonderful . We entered along the main hall past 2 huge Christmas trees sparkling with twinkly red lights and made our

On a very snowy Sunday afternoon just before Christmas I went for Champagne Afternoon Tea at Prestonfield House Hotel with six gorgeous girlfriends. What an afternoon it was! Oooh super-fabulous doesn't really cover it. Arriving in full snow-gear Prestonfield was very busy so we were in Rhubarb (the restaurant) rather than the Tapestry Room but it was wonderful there too. Cheers! When the cakes and sandwiches arrived there was much excitement. Mmmmn My heart was racing at the prospect. Look at the beauty of these cakes. I bet your mouth is watering. They were scrumptious, fruity and squashy and lovely and oh SO good. The close-up. Oh it was SO good! Just in case you want a little more. More eye candy The ladies toilets also require some attention. You see at Prestonfield the ladies toilets are exactly as ladies toilets should be. That is to say, padded and pink and floral with the essential chaise longue.

The Rhubarb Restaurant is absolutely lovely. The ambiance was perfect for a cold and snowy January. You definitely have to visit Prestonfield to truly appreciate how magical it feels when you are there.

We came for afternoon tea and being so hungry didn't think the beautiful selection which arrived would be enough for the two of us. About half way through, we realised there was definitely more than enough. There were small sandwiches, small bites and then amazing little desserts- small macaroons, small cheesecakes, fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and jam - the list goes on! The staff were so accommodating and friendly and frequently topped up our tea and coffees.

The only reason I haven't given 5 stars to Rhubarb is because I would have liked more savoury and less sweet options for the afternoon tea -  but this is a personal choice, other people may prefer more sweet options!

Prepare to be transported to a place of indulgence, located in the grand setting of Prestonfield House, where Rhubarb wows from start to finish. Pure decadence is reflected in the rich fabrics, evocative fragrances and delightful service - a definite date night winner.

Prestonfield house is a five-star boutique hotel located in the Prestonfield area of the city of Edinburgh. About a 5-10 minute taxi ride from the Royal mile depending on traffic and nestled in the shadow of Arthur's Seat. Luckily for me it is technically my local – shame! As Tatler says it is 'Triple A Rated spoil me factor'!

It is part of the James Thompson group of restaurants (owners of the Fabulous Witchery and The Tower Restaurants) and has been done up to a fine standard with themed rooms, antler furniture and velvet and chandeliers galore.

Rhubarb? Apparently Sir Alexander Dick , one of Prestonfields first owners was the first person to introduce Rhubarb seeds to the UK after a trip to China. The plant was first planted in Scotland at Prestonfield in the 18th century and still grows there today in the garden.

The a la carte menu is equally grand, with my favourite starter - scallops, cauliflower puree and iberco ham, which the husband ordered and I had the duck liver parfait with grapefruit and Pistachio bread.

They always have local produce and seasonal options we were tempted by tender slow-cooked lamb, smoked with rosemary and served with crisp sweetbreads, liver royale and buttermilk potato mousseline, and also by the Chateaubriand which I am sure would have been awesome. In the end we chose the Venison with winter vegetables and truffle and I had the Hake which was served with wild mushrooms and lentils in a creamy sauce and crispy mussels. Both really were excellent.

This is a unique experience, perfect for a special occasion, but the sumptuous surroundings can also be sampled with a reasonably priced table d'hote menu for only £35. Even better a fantastic 3 course Sunday Dinner is only £18.95 think crab salad with micro herbs, Roast rib of beef and the works with a chocolate pudding and a very reasonable Ventoux on the House wine list at £24 – we have this every time! Afternoon tea is also a great option at just £19.95 too in the decadent dining room or lounge a glass of fizz with it is a must!

My partner and I had a spectacular dinner at Rhubarb. We're both gluten free, and we were told that we could have ANYTHING on the menu! They also brought us this delicious, warm, gluten-free focaccia and a plate of entirely gluten-free petits fours.

The Rhubarb at the Prestonfield hotel is absolutely delicious! The salmon, trout mousse, haggis balls, tea and fish and chips were all unbelievably amazing! The ambience is fantastic and the hotel it's in is fantastic as well! I highly recommend it 👌 👍 As a follow up, breakfast was included with our room and was also delicious! Wow!

Lovely experience and service. Shout out to sommelier Lukas for his impeccable patience and expert recommendations. Also, for those ornithologists, quite the sightings on the vast well manicured grounds.

One of the best experience in Edinburgh. Not only the food was delicious but the service was brilliant and adorable. We even had a complementary tour of the hotel with the concierge walking us through history of the place and historic pieces, decor and suites. It was nothing but a luxury adventure. Thank you for making my partner’s birthday so special and for the unforgettable memories!

We had a lovely experience at the Rhubarb restaurant on the Prestonfield property. The setting and restaurant space are lovely. The staff are helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the tasting menu for lunch and found it was some of the best food we’d had in Scotland during our entire trip. We were seated by a window and got to enjoy watching the resident peacock strut about as well. We’d love to return!

Oh what a joy the afternoon tea here was. Very pricey, but worth every penny. Staff absolutely brilliant and the food was too good for this earth. One hell of a whisky selection too with some rare additions that are really hard to find.

There are a lot of great things about this restaurant and I'm not sure where to start. This is probably one of my best dining experiences in the UK. Not only the food is great but also the architecture, vibe and service of this restaurant are just outstanding. Each room has a very unique and gorgeous decor. It was good that we decided to have a glass of wine on the first floor before going to the dining room. It was right after the Easter bank holiday, so I was told by a waiter that it was a lot more relaxed on that day. We then went to a dining room and got a seat by a window. We could see beautiful nature with a lovely ox. All waiters were kind and welcoming. We had a 3 course set for £65 and we thought it literally is a bargain for having such a great experience in the peculiar place and indeed a delicious meal. We will definitely come back here soon, hopefully we would love to stay in the hotel too! ❤️

Great old manor. We were there yesterday, December, so it was also beautifullly decorated. We had a wonderful long lunch alone in a room. Don’t go if you like minimalistic decor, otherwise it is very enjoyable. Food is good and people are extremely nice.

This is definitely the most beautiful restaurant we’ve visited in Scotland. We first came for tea then decided to come back for dinner. So I recommend both their tea service and their dinner. Service was also exceptional, our first bottle of wine was corked, so we opened another one, which turned out also to be corked. The staff was very gracious and opened yet another for us. Food was good. I ordered the guinea fowl which was a bit on the salty side. Desserts were exceptional, I love that they incorporate produce from their property wherever possible. The rhubarb at Rhubarb is indeed amazing.

We stayed here for our wedding night and had dinner at the rhubarb. Along with the great service, the food was fantastic! I will get into details, but everything we had was perfect. As well as the breakfast in the morning. Thanks much for the great service and maybe we’ll see you again one day.

We had afternoon tea here, and the food was absolutely amazing. The grounds and the rooms are beautiful. We were only offered 1 drink throughout the whole time we were there but would definitely come back again. I would recommend booking a table downstairs as eating at a sofa and table is not comfortable

This hotel has such a romantic feel it's like being taken back in time. It's surrounded by fields and is tucked away, so you don't feel like you're Edinburgh but somewhere in the countryside. We had the sharing plate of Highland Roe Venison haunch in puff pastry, warm new potato and truffle salad, tempura broccoli, creamed spinach and watercress, roasted carrots, Spring cabbage, apple jelly, sauce Grand Veneur. It was cooked to perfection which shows their Chefs are carefully selected too. Their wine selection is good. Definitely recommend this for a quiet date night.

As a group, we had a great evening at Rhubarb. Excellent service and the venue is absolutely outstanding, nice to go somewhere where you can spend your whole night and be totally taken care of. The various drawing rooms for drinks are a great addition before and after to really see how magnificent the venue is. The dining room was excellent, they even catered for one member of the group with a gluten intolerance even bringing them some GF bread when then rest of the table were served fresh bread which was a nice touch. Extremely knowledgeable staff and service was excellent throughout. The food was very good but maybe slightly overpriced compared to other venues of a similar level and the size of the portions given. Overall, a great experience.

The food was just amazing. Every cut was so tender and full of flavour. Every component married into each dish beautifully. We will be back.

Our visit to Rhubarb was overall a great experience! The food was absolutely amazing and delivered way over expectations even with the price tag taken into account. The place itself has a special feeling of being quite formal yet with a cozy vibe to it. However it felt like they were short staffed, as there were generally long wait between the waiters came by, and they tended to leave empty glasses and bottles behind on our table even though they were clearing the table for plates. Also no ‘is the food okay’ or ‘are you missing something’ it was very much a take an order and a deliver an order mindset.

This was our third time at the Rhubarb Restaurant. The service from sommelier Lukas, our server Rico and Mr. Phil was impeccable. They made us feel welcome, they were accommodating to our every request and at the end of the night, they offered us a tour of the grounds and the hotel. As always, it was a fabulous experience, from the hospitality, to the food and the atmosphere. We would absolutely recommend it and we will definitely be back again. As for the food, we ordered the Wood Pigeon, Tweeddale Beef and the Red Deer platter for two. All the dishes were extremely well thought out, with flavours that compliment each item expertly and the meat was cooked to perfection. If we could give 6 stars, we would. Absolutely fantastic!

Prestonfield House, with its old world charm and elegance is a great place to visit for a memorable meal or special occasion. This historic house's location within the City of Edinburgh comes with great views and is set in lovely parkland, within a few miles of the hassle and bustle of Edinburgh's Princes Street. Not only is the location very special, the customer service from the moment you arrive is first class, as is the selection of freshly food, beautifully prepared and served with pride. Prestonfield's wine selection will also complement your meal. Prestonfield is a true oasis in the city.

An absolute delight. The restaurant and staff were great with kids too (I had my 8yo along, and the folks sharing the yellow room with us had very young/toddler children; child-free folks seemed to be seated in one of the many other dining rooms). The food was beautiful and delicious. The dining rooms and grounds were stunning. The resident peacock and "heelan coo" were the cherry on top. I highly recommend Rhubarb!
