Very pleasant romantic meal out. The menu was authentic, imaginative and well balanced. My friend is allergic to shell fish and the staff knew exactly what was in their dishes. The pudding menu was wonderful - we couldn't but have some!
Ate here on Saturday, early evening before attending 'The Tattoo' Good welcome from the Patron and friendly waiters. There was a special Festival menu which we all had.
Choice of around 5 for each course. I had the chicken with peppers and mash, others had the vegetarian option or the pork. All commented on their meal being delicious.
Pavlova with ice cream and fruit was the popular choice for dessert, again attractively served and good. We hadn't eaten here before but the rest of the family had, hence being there. We'll certainly visit again soon.
Food was great and matched with delicious wines. We had a room just for our group of seven. Felt so special. Service staff were very helpful which made our evening just perfect. Thank you so much.
Pleasant restaurant. Lovely food. Friendly service. Not cheap but a worthwhile treat. Enjoyed items that are not often on a menu Pigeon and Rabbit. Recommended.
A few minor quibbles aside, all things considered we had a most enjoyable evening at La Garrigue. The service is knowledgeable and warmly proficient – though we did have to request the bill twice - and, at its best, the food provides a delicious flavour of the Languedoc. - See more at: http://www.scrumptiousscran.com/2013/05/review-la-garrigue-fine-flavours-of.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ScrumptiousScran+%28Scrumptious+Scran+%29#sthash.xaMl9AlO.dpuf
It’s often in January when the wonders of social media bring forth dining diamonds. Such was the case when the tweet came through from Jean-Michel from La Garrigue to proclaim “1 night only – 3 courses for £20″. I was there like a shot.
I’d visited previously, for lunch, so was aware of the quality that would be on offer, but this evening did a fine job at taking things to another level.
Banning words is a bad business, but if there is one phrase I’d like to see expunged from the English language, it’s the following: “stop playing with your food.” Only good can come from playing with food, as this evening’s dishes demonstrated, most expertly.
To open, I chose the fish soup. When it arrived, its hue spoke of huge depth of flavour, and so it proved. Accompanying it were three items: crisp toast; grated cheese; and an excellent rouille. This is where the food play began. I’m sure there’s a terribly sophisticated way of combining things, but I set about creating a succession of little toasts to float in the soup. I’m easily pleased, but this truly delighted me. The soup was really good, too, so I was a very happy camper.
Service was a joy throughout, with an attentive approach, which included first class wine and drink recommendations for all courses.
The beef daube main course was very good, with an elegant parsnip puree accompaniment. The highlight, though, was the butternut squash and brussels sprout side. Where I’d got to play with the starter, so chef was having his little playful fun with the main course. It was a complete joy.
An excellent cheese selection followed, paired with a fragrant walnut infused wine. I rounded things out with good espresso.
So overall, it was an absolute pleasure to dine at La Garrigue, again. We’re blessed in Edinburgh to have such fine French cooking on offer. To sample it on a January offer made it just that bit sweeter, too. I’d strongly recommend you pay the place a visit, at your earliest convenient opportunity.

An excellent meal. Good choice of wine, very informative and friendly staff.
Both our starters were superb, and Le Cassoulet was both our main of choice. A great decision, pork belly and duck cooked to perfection, sausage helped balance it out.
Our first visit to La Garrigue, and won't be our last. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in French Gastronomy.
"Tres Bien" đź‘Ś
The service and ambiance were absolutely wonderful. My husband’s lamb was delicious my fowl with sausage and bean casserole was absolutely terrible, but then again, I do not like dark meat, sausage, or certain types of beans. The poultry was very dry for me. Our appetizers were delicious!
Mature couple up toon for day . Real French restaurant. Typical table, chairs , decor etc. Have been for years so popped in for mid week lunch. Really fab food as you would get in France... not dumbed down for the UK. Lunch time menu is excellent value for money.
As a starter OH had stilton and leek trart and me the mussels. The starters were real fab. For mains OH had the fish dish - Coley - was a really nice chunk of fish. I had the chicken which I really liked. Check out the photos.
And 10 out of 10 forva nice cold beer.
The waiting staff are excellent and attenative, And it was nice to meet the owner as well.
Edinburgh can be a fickle place to get a good lunch . The La Garrique didnt dissapoint and was all as a remembered it from my last visit.
All in it was ÂŁ59.25 for 2 mains, beers x2 , glass of wine, 1x bread and a coffee.
Donn't be put off that I only left 4 stars .. very very really do I give 5 stars . The La Garrigue is well worth a visit. I will def be back, soon !
Cozy spot near the train station! Farm to table vibe, and make it French. Friendly service, nice wine selection and lovely atmosphere. The salmon was succulent with flavor and the skin was crispy it melted in your mouth. The first course was a autumn special, squash and fresh mushrooms. For my dessert I went with the lemon curd with fruit, it was the BOMB! Must try if you’re in the area. Make a reservation in advance, I booked on open-table, they’re packed!
Walnut wine was memorable, tasted like a dessert wine. Le poisson du jour was a standard dish, delicious. Le cassoulet was very homely, the duck, pork and sausage felt so comforting. Dish was served extremely hot.
Otherwise, bread was cold, la galantine was decent, but not fantastic.
Had a great evening here for a 40th. Staff were friendly attentive and helped us with a small cake we had brought.
All the food was of very high quality. The starter, scallops, being one of the best I have tried. Could not fault any of the dishes. Accompanying wine we chose again was good.
Surroundings and ambiance make for a fun Saturday evening. Would work for groups or a romantic meal. Located close to the station but far enough away it is quiet.
Highly recommended.
Excellent courses - fish soup, asparagus, veal and ham fish special were all excellent!
WORLD CLASS
Made a booking for 2 people on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy so you could try and walk in. It got quite busy at like 8-9. Top notch service throughout our meal.
We started off with a lobster bisque. There were these very delectable kale chips on top which were nicely crisped and salted. The bisque itself was lovely. It was very creamy and had the most delightful seafood taste running throughout with the occasional morsel of lobster.
Then for the mains I got the Halibut which was awesome! Everything worked so well together on the plate. There were the purees which are always great to add a little more to each other element. You could taste how quality the Halibut was with each bite. My favourite though was the potatoes on the side. It was like a next level mashed potatoes and was really creamy, garlicy, and flavourful.
I tried a litte of the patridge. Loved what was done with the mushrooms and potatoes on that dish.
We ended with the lavender creme brulee which was amazing. It had the necessarily crispy top and was just the right amount of sweet.
Loved my meal here and will definitely be back as I imagine every dish on the menu is a winner
I went here on a second date, I say that because it's an occasion that is fraught with nerves and the staff made it all easy. They were also very patient when we stayed talking for a long time. (It went well! :) I had the pigeon salad for a starter and it had a lovely balance of sweet (blackberries) tart (beets) and savory (the pigeon). My companion had another selection and I'm sorry I don't remember what it was, but he loved it. We both had the lamb for our main, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sauce was a perfect complement. We both cleaned our plates. For dessert my date ordered the Ille Flottante and he loved it. I highly recommend you visit La Garrigue!
The food was lovely, however, the only negative part to the experience was the partridge being slightly tough.
The restaurant has quite a spectacular view looking onto Calton Hill, and there is a great atmosphere to the place.
Beautiful little French restaurant serving delicious French cuisine. We were lucky to be accommodated without reservation despite the August season. Every dish was masterfully crafted with excellent attention to ingredients.
Delicious meal, attentive staff, and lovely wines.
Excellent gluten-free options, and as food is prepared to order, dishes can be adapted to suit dietary requirements.
A great dining experience. Our starters of terrine and goat’s cheese tart were delicious. My partner described the seafood stew as exquisite. My confit duck cassoulet was tasty, but nothing memorable. It seems the seafood stew was the winner here. Both desserts - the creme brûlée and lemon tart - were great. Service was unassuming but effective.
I ate here for my boyfriend’s birthday. The quality of the food is great and really nice presented, the staff was extremely kind.
The restaurant is nice and clean. Good price and quality.
I really appreciate eating here and I suggest it!
Great quality, tried the fish soup, pork steak and cheese souffle, freshly made bread & butter and lyonnaise potatoes, all of excellent taste !!! Also had the chocolate mousse and levander creme brulee which were top notch! Good service and very artistic ambience.
Food was absolutely delicious. And arrive was wonderful. Highly recommend! If we come back to Edinburgh, we will definitely visit again.
Great food, great service. Looking forward to going back soon.
