I can honestly say I have never had a better meal, if you are in Edinburgh you have got to go there. From starters to desserts it was excellent. I had the hot camembert, delicious. My husband had the snails and enjoyed them immensely. The entrecote steak was divine, and cooked to perfection (medium rare). House wine is very palatable(the red, and I am fussy!!!). Desserts were beautiful, my husband really loved the lemon meringue, and said it was the best he ever had. We enjoyed it so much we have booked for two nights later, then we can try other items on the menu, which isn't large but has wonderful dishes on it. Do not hesitate to go here.
I came here for desserts and it was pretty amazing the staff was very friendly and came outside to help us get seated.I really liked this place a lot.
One of my husband and mine's go-to place, whether be it breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.
They've got a pre-theatre menu that's really good value. And the specials are always fantastic and only served during these times. I think it's something like 2 courses for £10-£15, and free coffee refills.
Fav dishes? Ooooo onion soup for sure. It's done the PROPER way. The fish soup! Oh, this is my lunch I usually order. And it's not too fishy. And I love snails (but I appreciate not many people do, so I won't say much on it).
Mains? Anything with their blue cheese sauce! Even over the winter they have turkey with blue cheese sauce (and I don't like turkey)...and don't be put off with it being blue cheese. It's not very blue. More cheesy with the salty kick. Oh and their potatoes that come with the dishes? L-O-V-E-L-Y.
Dessert? My husband loves the chocolate torte (a bit too chocolaty for me). Naturally the creme brûlée is great. But beware, it's a really big portion.
And being a French place? Forget about ordering a special type of wine. Their table wine is already really good.
Last thing? Not a food review. Some of the waiters are right dashing! Hmmmm, lol.

Check out the review of Petit Paris in the blog post below. Super cute and a little france getaway, lovely courses, no rush and the atmosphere is lovely.
So good. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere great and the food fantastic. I had the salmon with saffron, coriander & mussels and my partner had the grilled Toulouse sausages with mustard. His was good but mine was superb. Generous servings and plenty of bread. We declined desert just so as to savour the mains more. Besides, we have another few nights here; the chances of us returning are very high!
Friendly and Delicious. We chose Petit Paris for our first night in Edinburgh just for something different than pub fare and they did not disappoint! They have a great location right in the middle of the Grassmarket open plaza area along with many other restaurants and a large outside seating area (the inside dining area appears to be very small). The staff were very friendly, even when our baby was protesting his missed nap.
The tomato & basil soup was decent, but the main dishes (chicken with blue cheese & bacon, and salmon with saffron, coriander, and mussel sauce) were delicious. Also, the crème brûlée was probably the best I've ever had with a light custard and no burning of the caramelized top; just hints of cool and warm spots to show it was done freshly.
The house red wine was also quite nice and very reasonably priced. The other mains were mid-priced so with two apps, two mains, and two desserts plus three wines we spent a decent amount overall. No regrets though, it was great and unpretentious food in a nice location.
My friend Louise and I were in and around the grassmarket yesterday for a trawl through some of the antiques and vintage shops. Grub was needed, but from past experience, I find a lot of the restaurants in the area seem to be of the mass 'punt it out to tourists' ilk, knowing they're not likely to be repeat visitors. We hovvered between Little Italy and Petit Paris (and with absence of the choice of Small Scottish, or Tiny Thai) we went for the Gallic option. We were offered seats inside, but took a brave notion to dine en plein air (outside); in October. I know! The combination of the checked tablecloths, friendly French staff, and and big food made this one of the best lunches in ages. We kept it simple, one dish each, paired with a basket generouslly filled with baguette and sourdough, a glass of rosé for me. Louise got tucked into a bowl of puy lentil broth, which made this a particularly peppery version of this winter classic. My roast pork came in a cast-iron dish, an all-in-one
Fantastic French Food!
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who had frequented it on her previous visit to Edinburgh, and had high hopes and was not disappointed. The staff are some of the friendliest I have ever had (which is ironic considering it's a French restaurant and they are mostly French waiters) and every time I visit this place I am greeted with enthusiasm and big warm smiles.
My favourite dish on the menu are the mussels! They are cooked to perfection, which just the right amount of sauce to allow for extensive dipping of freshly baked French bread at the end of the meal. And when I am feeling in a particularly Parisian mood I will also treat myself to some snails, which are quite hard to come by in Scotland. Together with a glass of house white wine you are guaranteed to have a lovely evening, and it is only when you leave the venue when you remember that you are not in France.
Pros:
- fantastic food
- lovely staff
- pet friendly
- great atmosphere
Cons:
- none!
Cost per person: £20 with wine
Happened upon this lovely restaurant in Grassmarket, Edinburgh, and we were lucky enough to get s table, I had French onion soup, husband had black pudding, then I chose the sea bass and husband had chicken supreme with blue cheese sauce. Great atmosphere, fabulous find, quirky building
A beautiful Cafe, full of charm that serves some classic French dishes. We had the fixed price lunch menu, which included an entree, mains and coffee and was more than sufficient. The French Onion soup was delicious and the steaks were cooked just the way we liked them. The service was great and we didn't feel rushed. A perfect place for lunch or dinner.
The salmon I order was lively. The lemon sauce accompanying it was delightful, adding to my enjoyment. The side potato was slightly firmer than I prefer, as I like it softer, but overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. The ambiance was good, and the staff was friendly and attentive.
We recently dined at Petit Paris and was absolutely blown away by the dining experience. The stew with sausages and potatoes was, without a doubt, both the best I've ever had in the world. The flavors were exquisite, and the use of mustard was a brilliant touch that elevated sausages dish to a whole new level.
The atmosphere at Petit Paris is truly exceptional, creating a cozy and inviting ambiance that enhances the overall dining experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt transported to a charming Parisian bistro.
What truly stood out, aside from the exceptional food, was the impeccable service. The staff were incredibly attentive and provided a 5-star service throughout the evening, making me feel like a valued guest.
All in all, Petit Paris exceeded my expectations in every way. If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience with top-notch stew, a fantastic mustard selection, and a delightful atmosphere, look no further than Petit Paris. It's a culinary gem in every sense! Do not forget to make a booking, this place is very busy!
Love this place. Best place to get moules with blue cheese! The ambiance is nice but the service was slow(tbf there was 7 of us so that's probably the reason why it was slow). Will recommend the onion soup and moules👌👌👌
Had a lunch here and wow - the food is amazing! Service was quick and very polite. The place is small with a nice atmosphere. Will definitely be going back.
We had salmon and ribeye steak as mains. They were delicious and good portion. Highly recommended. Staff were nice to us.
We came at 7pm and it’s a bit busy at the moment, but the quality of food really surprises us. The seafood is fresh and the sauce tastes great, the house whine also tastes good.
Petit Paris never disappoints. Delicious food ALWAYS. Friendly service. We've been customers for at least 8 years and I must say that they keep their standards high. Food is always delicious.
So happy to return to Edinburgh and to this fabulous little French restaurant! The food is always so well done. This time we shared a dozen escargot, black pudding, mussels in blue cheese sauce and Toulouse sausage. They also have a good selection of wines. Next time I hope I’ve left room for desert because they look pretty special!
Extremely delicious french food. Totally worth visiting, not so expensive and kids friendly as well. Loved the food and dessert here.
Booked and disappointed to be led to the basement but no complaints with the service down there and certainly no complaint with the steaks we had from the set menu. Really well cooked, juicy and well flavoured. Pricing was excellent too... Only slightly more for steak, roast potato, bread and a coffee than coffee and a cake at a rip off cafe earlier that day.
Excellent! The food is presented and prepared with care. Everything was flavourful and delicious. I had the French onion soup as a starter, sea bass main, with a size of veg. As someone who cooks all my meals I was pleased to eat food that was prepared with a similar level of care and attention.
Wonderful French food. I don’t remember having it as good in Paris. Super impressed!
Loved the food! I’m from the US and so everything about this restaurant is so much better than back home. I loved the desserts and the main courses my husband and I had were exceptional. We talked with a very sweet French/Belgian couple and it was a great chat! When we come back to Scotland, this is one of the places I want to come back to!
Good lunch deal in a touristy area, around £18 for starter, main and coffee.
I have been here for a few times and my favourite starter is the French onion soup. Hot soup is definitely the best comfort food in winter time.
