Best cafe in Edinburgh! Nutan is a lovely charismatic lady who makes you laugh and feel very welcome. Come for lunch and then for dinner! :) :) :)
Tasty Indian snacks - well prepared and at very reasonable prices. Served in a relaxed, informal cafe. The owner is always full of energy and will make you smile. This business started as a police box food outlet up the road in Bruntsfield- I am so pleased this little cafe is working out for her.
Amazing food- amazing woman! I had the most delightful panir with spinach sauce and rice. Only £5.50 inc rice. Delicious. Nutan prepares the food herself downstairs and it's ready in 5 minutes. What a service!
I visited Nutan's today as I was curious about the little restaurant I pass every single day on my way to work. I only went to pick up a takeway but I must say it was amazing! They do two special curries every day - one vegetarian and one for meat lovers. I went for a chicken curry of the day and I wasn't dissapointed. It was very fresh and not heavy at all like other curries can be. I'll definitely go again for a proper sit down lunch or dinner.
Having originally charmed the locals of Bruntsfield with her relentless cheeriness from the Bollywood Box, it was good to see the opening of Nutan’s in Tollcross, to give a more extensive home to Nutan Bala’s jolly take on Indian dishes. I popped in to give her wares a try. Formerly the home to Vittles, the interior remains much the same, although the detailing is all in the Indian style. It’s simple and quite elegant.
We loved Nutan when she was serving her delicious food out of a tiny blue box in Morningside, and we love her even more now her establishment has more to love. In the few weeks since she's opened she constantly has customers vying for her attention, and every time I've been in she's added something new to the decor and/or the menu. The food and drink is as scrumptious as ever (try the mango lassi, it's my favourite!) but it's Nutan's laugh and positive energy which make the place truly exceptional.
Fantastic Indian cuisine with reasonable prices in the heart of Edinburgh. The owner (our waiter) Nutan is such an inspiring woman, a true one-person show. We were amazed at her joyous and uplifting spirit, and we absolutely adored our experience. Be warned, though, on busy days (like the time we went), service might be slow due to the fact she's doing everything (completely out of her control). Overall, an outstanding experience!
We ate dinner late, so we were the only ones in there, but unlike so many places that tend to ignore you when they are slow, the service was delightful and exceptional. The food was equally delicious, too! We're from the U.S. and our favorite local Indian restaurant's "medium spice" is less spicy than here, so it was making me sweat, but that didn't diminish how flavorful and really good the food was. We would definitely return and recommend it to others!
Very good food, owner is hilarious.
The food is north Indian I think. The curry was good and the papadam was surprisingly flavorful.
Dining at Nutans is not just about feeding and feeling full. It is good for the soul.
The food, the service, the atmosphere and nutan’s personal magic makes this place an institution. I always come here when I’m visiting Edinburgh and hope it will be here for many visits and years to come.
Thank you so much Nutan - each time I eat here it reminds me of when I lived in Edinburgh. Hug :)

Delightful little restaurant run by a friendly sole proprietor who does it all. Good choices on the menu and quality meets with price and quantity. Photo of the meat thali. Try the restaurant, without any reservations.
Lovely small restaurant owned by the kindest Nutan. She pays attention to every single customer, asking everyone if they enjoy her food. I have tried Veggie Thali and a platter of mixed veggie samosas and pakoras, all were amazing. Considering the quality of food and service + the amount of food you get they are quite budget-friendly. Plenty of vegetarian-vegan options + gluten free choices. Easily one of my favourite restaurants in town. I regret not stepping in before! Definitely will come back.
The food was incredibly delicious and authentic. And what made the visit extra special was the owner, she’s such a lovely and welcoming woman.
We‘ll definitely come back during our stay.
What a lovely place to eat. The owner is amazing and does everything. If you want an outstanding experience with superb food you are at the perfect place.
Great restaurant, great food and the owner is amazing. What a lovely lady!
Excellent and delicious indian food, very authentic. The owner is a lovely woman, always up for a chat and some jokes, such a nice lady... But most important, her food is top notch stuff 🤤🤤
