Lovely little cafe right near the Water of Leith pathway. One of my favourite coffee spots in Edinburgh. An excellent selection of breakfast items with high nutritional value. Relaxing spot away from the main dining areas of Leith.
We were staying in Leith for the Fringe so decided to take a little walk and give this place a go for brunch. It's not really near any other cafes or restaurants, so I was a little sceptical, but it was a very pleasant surprise. Everything on the brunch menu looked delicious and I wanted to order everything. They had milk alternatives, which is great as not everywhere does, and made me a delicious coconut latte. Me and my friend both had the Scotch pancakes which came with lemon curd, raspberry coulis, the sweetest raspberries I've ever tasted, oats, shards of whisky honey and Crowdie cheese. They were sensational. A perfect, filling portion and one of the best flavour combinations in a dish I've ever tasted. Both of us tried the Crowdie cheese and didn't really like it so left it, but I can see why it was on the plate and am sure it will be to some people's taste - anyway, if you don't like it it's just one blob on the top so, easily removed. Staff were attentive but not fussy and very nice. Totally recommend this spot.
Went there because of the good reviews & were not disappointed. Enjoyed the home made juice & the lemon pancakes a lot
So glad we found this place. We loved it; wonderful atmosphere, great music, nicely spaced out tables so we could relax without feeling too close to other diners. All of the food is clearly prepared with care and attention. Will definitely return next time we are in Leith. Thank you to the wonderful person who served us and the chefs for their work in the kitchen.
We had a nice experience at Ostara and would happily go back.
The scones, the breakfast hash and the breakfast pancakes were all exquisite in their execution. The pancakes were topped with (among other things) large crystals of honey, which added both depth to the texture of the dish and added aesthetic beauty.
Coffees and teas were both very enjoyable. Service was prompt, helpful, and patient. The music was pleasant, gentle American country music. The atmosphere was open and clean.
Yum to Australian style breakfast places abroad! This was a delicious combination of careful quality in each dish and world inspirations. I had a Middle Eastern inspired plate with yogurt, eggs, pita, and lamb. I split decadent raspberry pancakes with my wife. Our family had scrambled eggs and bacon on toast. What a brunch! You can sneak parking down one block by the apartments.
Delicious food, lovely coffee and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend. Felt guilty about not leaving a tip but we didn’t have any cash on us. Will remember for next time as they 100% deserve it.
Excellent small bistro tucked away in Leith. We went for brunch and there were so many exciting options I feel like I could have ordered 4 different meals. We took our 21 month old toddler and they were extremely accommodating, and his cheese omelette was as good as anything we ate.
I had a Chorizo hash and virgin Mary and honestly, that probably could have sorted me for the day! We will be back.
Over from Melbourne on holiday. Was a Welcoming and warm reception from the get go. Enjoyed their wide range of teas and the focus on local produce with proud provenance. Couldn't decide on breakfast so built my own eggs plate with a side of almost everything! The pork sausages and black pudding were absolutely to die for! Could come here every day for weeks to sample all the different specialties on offer. Highly recommend the weekend eggs Benedict specials. Today they had wild foraged mushrooms on offer that would not be out of place on a michelan star dish!
Great work guys! Look forward to coming back next time I'm in Edinburgh
What a lovely place to spend time with a friend enjoying brunch. Excellent menu, spoilt for choice. Great quality teas and coffees. Nothing too much for the welcoming and friendly staff. Will definitely return!
Relaxing place to have breakfast, food good and excellent service, pet friendly
Nothing but exceptional from Ostara. I visited on holiday and wish I had gone here for breakfast each and every day rather than just the once. Also memorable are their adorable salt and pepper shakers.
I had lovely scotch pancakes. They also have a large selection of tea to choose from. Baby-friendly in the sense that they do have high chairs and a children's menu, but it is a bit cramped trying to get a stroller with large wheels in.
