We booked 4 seats at the restaurant for a friends birthday and we had a great experience. The staff fully engaged with customers and the food and wine was amazing. Thank you so much
This place does not serve food but they serve a experience. The food had here was something I have never tasted before. The concept was amazing. A true experience to understand the science behind cooking with real good meal.
The Table is no fussy fine dining restaurant; everything about it from the food, to the setting, to the chefs themselves encourage you to just enjoy yourself. The whole evening was charming, friendly and self-deprecating – and we were made to feel a part of the whole experience. I love a bit of character and quirk with a meal, and The Table Edinburgh has it in spades. So I highly recommend that you steal a seat at The Table too.
While The Table is perhaps not Edinburgh's greatest secret, after all, it is currently rated as the number 1 restaurant on TripAdvisor; but with the tagline "Ten Seats, Two Chefs, One Table" (and being fully booked for months in advance), there is an element of intrigue that surrounds the establishment to those of us who have not visited before.
At least once a month my partner and I like to head out on our date night to new and good restaurants that are creating a stir in the culinary world. Ideally, the food has to be of the best quality and the presentation has to be fresh, exciting and modern; so I’m always on the look out for recommended and new places to eat, pop-ups or foodie experiences.
This month, I eventually managed to secure a booking at The Table, Dundas Street. I pass this place at least twice day and had no idea that it was there. The restaurant is inconspicious. There is very little signage and the only give-away that they restaurant is here, is The Table logo frosted onto the wee window pane sited above the door.On entering The Table, we were warmly greeted by Chef Sean and introduced to his brother Chef Keith. The space is long and narrow but with the use of some clever interior design ie a wall to ceiling mirror, the place has a feeling of space; and although I was informed on their website that the places seats 10, I was still taken aback that its a bar setting – 10 very large comfortable bar seats sit at a long bar. I dont want to call them bar stools as this conjurs up images of wooden, hard bar stools that just aren’t worth sitting on.
I’d been a bit reluctant about The Table, a multi-course fine dining chef’s table experience, as I couldn’t quite work out whether the ten-seat, single-sitting, New Town curio on Dundas Street would work better (or at all) if you went in a two, four or whole restaurant party. As it turned out, its exceptional busyness meant I had to book well in advance and could only get a week night seating for two, so the decision was helpfully taken out of my hands.
The Table is a very recent addition to the Edinburgh food scene. Only opened a few months ago by a pair of brothers, The Table offers a unique experience. There is only one table, seating ten, and only one sitting at that table per evening. This table is bar-like which wraps around the kitchen, so you can watch the two of them at work and chat with them as they go. Sean is the chef patron and has a passion for local produce cooked well. He cooks what he loves and it shows. The restaurant itself if small but perfectly formed, with muted green tones. The bar stools we were sat on were much more like chairs and surprisingly comfy throughout the meal.
One of the best meals I've eaten in Edinburgh, a small and cozy venue and watching the chef's prep and serve the food was a real treat. Also we had the wine flight and every wine was delicious, I'd recommend the pairing and Sean really knows his stuff. Would go back there in a heartbeat if we can get a space!
Last night was the fanciest dinner I’ve ever been to. Which is ironic, because it was also the most low-key. I could have worn jeans. I think that’s a sign of true class and quality-the absence of pretension. Anyways, it was an absolutely fabulous, intimate meal cooked right in front of us, in a restaurant that only seats 10, and was fully staffed with 3. The bar where everyone sits overlooked the entire kitchen down to the dishwasher. The music was wonderful and the atmosphere was perfect. The chef was gifted, the sous chef was hilarious, and the waiter was accommodating of our sober lifestyle while making sure we were included and happy. We felt like a king and queen but family at the same time. An experience we’ll never forget.
This was such a unique tasting menu experience, one of the best my husband and I have experienced, and we have had quite a few around the world! We opted for the wine pairing, which was well worth it. The chef is an owner and you can see everything being cooked right in front of you. He then explains each course before you start. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable on the wine, each wine paired perfectly with each course. It is expensive, but worth every penny if you appreciate good food and wine. Lovely atmosphere, a perfect evening.
The Table is a solidly good time. Most every dish is delightful, some fail, the premium wine pairing is very well done and chef/owner Sean Clark is both talented and entertaining. The added delight might be the paired musical playlist that adds an additional element of fun. I recommend booking a group of friends for this experience and interact as much as you can.
Don't often do fine dining, but this was amazing! The experience of a single table in the kitchen with the chef preparing then explaining the food in front of you really increases the enjoyment eating it. 7 courses of Italian influenced dishes made with seasonally locally sourced produce. My new favorite restaurant; I'll definitely go back!
Such a nice and caring staff!!
Gorgeous idea to have only one table to share
We felt at home! The sommelier is a true expert, and also the chefs are amazing
We had a great time here
Unforgettable experience with Michelin quality dish after dish upping the anti in quality with every course.
Imaginative wine pairing which elevated the experience would recommend spending a little more for the premium option which offered aged Chenin blanc and a surprising Bulgarian Bordeaux blend.
Relaxed and professional team who clearly love what they do
Could not recommend more highly
Fantastic tasting menu with accompanying wines with each course. Food is surprising & beautiful without being gimmicky or fussy. All served at a counter to a single sitting of up to 10 guests. Open kitchen with the sous chef playing a fun selection of music. The place is tiny for a restaurant but comfortable & unstuffy. If you have special dietary needs or preferences you *really* need to ask in advance - not the kind of kitchen where there is any room to improvise something off menu!
So glad Shaun was able to reopen this place. I have attached some photos of the courses, a couple I forgot as i was just too eager to get stuck in!
Visited again on 4th Dec and more cracking food. Added some more pictures
Absolutely loved our evening. This quirky restaurant has everything you could want for a special night out. The food is an absolute treat, it's innovative, delicious and made by the most talented chefs. Decor, service and music were all spot on. And we were even given a little treat bag when we left! Highly recommended!
