We have just had a fantastic couple of nights stay at the Horseshoe Inn. What a great wee place! The menu is amazing as is the food. Superb range of dishes and the Scottish breakfast is first class. The room we we were in had everything you could need and was spotless clean with a really comfy bed. Another highlight of this place is the staff. VERY friendly and welcoming and nothing is any trouble. Can't rate this place highly enough and look forward to return visits.
Excellent meal. Lovely bar & restaurant.
Really friendly staff . Every Thing was just so tasty. Will be back to work our way through the menu.
Love it
Fabulous food in lovely surroundings. Lovely staff. Would highly recommend a visit
Just back after having a lovely lunch at the Horseshoe, food was delicious and the staff were so kind and helpful. Will definitely be back.
Just back from a lovely meal at the horseshoe. The Sunday roast was beautiful and the pudding was lovely to. Staff so nice and friendly. Such a cozy country feel about the restaurant. You have done an amazing job on the place. Can't wait to come back. Xx
Great food, great staff and relaxed atmosphere. If you need to see an example of how to do it right, this is the place to visit.
What a transformation to this lovely place. Way underpriced and we’ll worth a visit.
Great food friendly staff and dogs are welcome. Great pub/restaurant
Had an amazing meal here, definitely be back! Best chips ever!! Not too mention sticky toffee pudding!!
Just had a gorgeous Sunday dinner at the Horseshoe! Nicest Yorkshire pud I’ve had and a brilliant banoffee ice cream Sunday
Staff were so polite and friendly it made the experience 10x better.
Beautifully decorated and the toilets were pristine too!
100% recomend a visit and will definitely be returning!
Lovely lunch with my wife and mother-in-law , and dog great friendly service, good menu, and lovely food
Great place to stay. Staff, food, could not ask for better. Room was really nice bed was so comfy. We will be going back very soon.
Lovely friendly staff and amazing food, I will definitely be back, thank you.
WE SEEMED TO hit every traffic light from Newhaven to Sir Harry Lauder Road as we journeyed south towards The Horseshoe Inn. I cannot stand others' lateness, particularly when it comes to eating arrangements, so I was slightly embarrassed to call ahead and advise of our unfortunate delay. The Horseshoe Inn is an unassuming restaurant with rooms situated 17 miles from Edinburgh city centre, just outside of Peebles (Eddleston to be exact). I knew very little about it, bar the odd comment that “it has a good reputation” and held two AA Rosettes. After a torrid hour-and-a-half trek I was in need of a glass of wine, never mind a three-course lunch. Let’s hope that those earlier comments were accurate.
Scottish Food Review has never given five star rating on Zomato to a restaurant before. We have always capped the score at four and a half, deciding there is no possibility of a perfect five. We have always reviewed restaurants on a like for like basis, so the finest burger restaurant in the world (Dennistoun BBQ) can score highly whereas a decidedly average Michelin-starred experience (nope, not going there!) would score less.
So you must be wondering how on Earth has the Horseshoe managed to attain the unattainable?
Blogging has helped us discover some wonderful hidden gems in Edinburgh, we search long and hard for them but sometimes we're lucky enough for the hidden gems to find us.
Fantastic service, fantastic food and undoubtedly my restaurant if the year!
Fabulous dinner with friends last night , they haven’t been before , we wanted to take them somewhere special in the area and we were not disappointed and they were impressed.
Super country pub with great food , staff friendly and efficient.
Highlights: venison shank , sticky toffee pud
The bar and dining room have a really relaxed feel and are spacious.
Food was excellent and reasonable priced for what is available, as is breakfast.
There's a small selection of craft beers on draught and in bottle, all served by cheerful and friendly staff.
The room was slightly small and with a view onto a roof but there is free off street parking directly outside the rooms ( which are not attached to the bar / restaurant ).
Absolutely fantastic restaurant and bar. Food was faultless and incredible staff. Had our table all night, was a real treat of an evening. Will definitely be back.
Very deserving of the culinary awards held, every course was superb.
Nestled in a little village on the way to the Borders the Horseshoe Inn is possibly one of my favorite spots to eat. We didn't stay the night here.
On entry you're greeted by a friendly front of house member of staff and they get you seated promptly and give you a while to lull over the drinks menu. Meanwhile a waiter will bring you a decent and not overcrowded food menu.
Having eaten here a few times I have yet to find something on the stater and mains courses that don't sate my appetite and expectations of a good Gastropub. I have to particularly recommend the scallop stater, definitely a recipe I will be trying at home.
The deserts I think are the only thing that are a bit too much for me personally. The portion size for the toffee cake was sickeningly big. Its super rich and sweet but for something of that size, halved and served with a vanilla ice-cream (instead of clotted cream) would be much easier to digest.
Either way super excited to go back again!!!
Catered for our last minute booking, service was friendly, attentive but not over bearing or intrusive.
Our meals were simply spectacular - perfectly cooked and seasoned pork and lamb, with fresh local vegetables, and generously proportioned which was welcome after a long day.
It's slightly more expensive than typical pub food, but far better value than a city centre high end restaurant, and well worth paying a little extra for superb food and service.
Food here is always top quality. Owners also lovely. Does one of the best Sunday lunches I've ever had. I often recommend this to others if in Peeblesshire area (even if you aren't, it's worth the trip)
A lovely stop on the way to Peebles. Parking off the main road around the back. Just stopped for lunch. A great selection of choices on the menu. The food came fast and was nicely cooked and presented. Empty plates all round. The price i think is comparable with other similar places. Very friendly service. The decor is a bit eclectic, which I think adds to the old Inn vibe. But I wished it had been a wee bit brighter in the colour scheme. However, at night, I would think it would feel warm and cosy. Overall, I would definitely recommend it.
As it’s used in GB, they were so kind with our dogs. They have a room dedicated to dogs’ owners and they offer water to your pets.
The menu has a high variety of choice both for mains and starters. Actually we had mains and we shared two desserts. Personally I highly recommend the creamy chicken pie. Once you compared ito other restaurants, you’d realize The Horseshoe Inn is not expensive at all. Moreover, I need to make a particular appreciation to the fact you can easily talk to each other during dinner as the room has perfect acoustics.
Excellent food, go there as often as we can which recently hasn't been alot but was great to go back for our anniversary. The food never disappoints and the staff are always attentive and friendly. Will be going back again.
Amazing location, excellent food and service. Staff were great with our dog and very accommodating. Absolutely loved it, will definitely be back again, with the dog! 😍
Amazing food, great customer service. Definitely worth a visit. We were advised by friends to try The Horseshoe Inn, and we were not disappointed. Recommend.
Wonderful dinners spot. Had the braised Ox Cheeks and they were delicious. Very attentive service as well. It is right along the road 10 minutes from Peebles. Highly recommend if in the Tweed Valley.
Came in for something to eat with my wife on a rare day off together and we had our 2 dogs with us.
The staff were lovely and brought water for our dogs which they welcomed on a warm day.
Food was first class and the price was great value for the great starters and meals we had.
Will certainly drop in again
Thanks to all
From the moment we stepped into The Horseshoe Inn, we knew we were in for a treat. Despite being a large group of 13, the staff accommodated us with remarkable ease and professionalism. Their warm welcome set the tone for an evening that would prove unforgettable.
What caught us off guard was the exceptional quality of the food. For a country pub, the dishes could easily rival those found in high-end restaurants. It was easily one of the best meals I've had recently.
For my starter, I chose the Pork cheek, pate, sweet cider & apple demi-glace, tattie scone. The flavors were well-balanced and deeply satisfying, a testament to the skill of the kitchen.
Moving on to the main course, the Borders seared lamb rump was exceptional. Served with slow-roasted fank, lamb bacon, minted pea puree, and green beans, this dish was not just a meal; it was an event. Every element on the plate worked together to create a fulfilling culinary experience.
To finish, the Sticky toffee pudding was the perfect ending. Served with toffee sauce and clotted cream, it was just the right level of sweet and left me thoroughly pleased with my meal.
The ambiance perfectly encapsulated the charm of rural Scotland, making our evening feel extra special. The staff was attentive and made sure that our large group had everything we needed. They effortlessly managed our various courses and drinks, ensuring that our evening was a smooth and enjoyable affair.
If you're ever in this part of Scotland, The Horseshoe Inn is a must-visit. From the outstanding food to the exemplary service, it’s easily the best country pub I've had the pleasure of dining in. Whether you're a local or just passing through, make sure to add this place to your culinary journey.
Stayed for one night with family in 2 rooms as part of a bike ride. Staff were all friendly and accommodating. Good selection of ales and food was fantastic. Area is amazing and hotel stay helped towards a great weekend. Will definitely be back.
I needed to stay 2 nights near Peebles, and this inn was a good choice for this purpose.
Although the single room is a bit small, and the wardrobe has no shelves, only hangers, I liked it. The room is decorated with love and attention and is very clean and well kept.
Great food! Great service!
Love their chips-so healthy and yummi. Very generously-sized and delicious steaks, too!
Stoped for a late lunch.
Really nice trendy bar /restaurant. I have to say overpriced. Food was missing flavour.
Coffee 4 of 10
Food overpriced
Staff was very friendly.
