Booked for a 50th Birthday and couldn't have chosen better.
We stayed in The Davenport room which was lovely, beautifully furnished and very well-equipped. The doors open on to the river bank with lovely views.
We stayed for dinner which was incredible and one of the best meals we've had. We shared the Wiltshire beef which was exquisite. Nice atmosphere and all the waiting staff were helpful and friendly. The starter and dessert were both excellent. The sommelier was very knowledgeable on wine and cars!
The birthday cake made especially was stunning & presented beautifully at just the right moment. The after-dinner drinks selection was well recommended by the barman. Breakfast was also excellent.
The staff were all great - Zoe, Martin and Leo were all wonderfully helpful and knowledgable. A memorable weekend and we would love to return.
Book a room for the night and treat yourself to dinner, bed and breakfast, we've stayed here twice now and it's been lovely both times. The rooms are set on the river banks so you wake up to beautiful countryside views, there are some nice walks to enjoy in the daytime.
At dinner we shared the beef, which was insanely good and their chunky chips were delicious. The place has such a nice atmosphere and the staff are really friendly - especially if you have 4 paws... They even gave us dog treats to take home to the dogs.
There's a good choice of gins on offer and the wines/Champagne by the glass are all great. Their breakfasts are fantastic too, there's a good range of options, their traditional cooked breakfast was up there in terms of quality and they serve bucks fizz with fresh orange juice (it was my birthday, it would have been rude not to!).
From start to finish our stay and our dining experience was wonderful. Everyone is so friendly and efficient and keen to help and that makes such a difference. From checking in , to the bar staff, to the waiting staff, and the sommelier, to the amazing chefs working their magic it was a dream to behold. Even the music over dinner wasn’t muzak - brilliant! The food was divine, the wine choices ( as taken ) ideal. The Chamberlain room in Troutbeck House was SO luxurious - overlooking the river - just yards down the road from the Red Lion. The breakfast provided back at the RL was impressive too. Wonderful all round. Can’t wait to go back again. 👍
This is an amazing place. The pub, food and staff are amazing. This is so much more than a 'pub'. The food is exquisite. The owners have cleverly purchased a bungalow, just down the road from the pub, next to the beautiful river Avon. There are terraces overlooking the river and quiet idyllic. Take time to walk up behind the pub onto Salisbury Plain, that is extremely beautiful too.!
The restaurant is just amazing: we had the crab tart and baked mozzarella for starters, the steak fillet sharing for two and it was great. The desserts excellent as well!
Such a lovely pub/restaurant! The setting was amazing - we ate our entire meal outdoors in their garden which was such a treat. We loved our starters but the mains were a little bit too salty for us. Service was incredible. Would highly recommend visiting!
Great local pub. Only had a pint (or two ). Sunny back garden. Wine and cocktails excellent if a little ££. I’m told the food is brilliant
Great food, varied but refined menu.
Really good staff.
Dog friendly ❤️
We had a private dining experience with our meal being cooked by Britanny and her lovely daughter Minny acting as our front of house for the evening.
Can I just start out be saying that the evening was nothing short from spectacular. We had made some very specific requests all of which were accommodated for with no issue. Brittany even created a custom dish for us as one of the courses which we absolutely loved.
The standard was very professional, and every item on the menu was simply divine and safe to say that my husband and I will be trying to think of excuses to come back for another meal.
Thank you for the wonderful dinner and your ever so lovely company, we really hope to see you again soon.
Highly recommend, do not miss out on this wonderful experience!
Lovely location, decor and ambience in the pub. Great food. Michelin star deserved. Great, attentive service, but not obtrusive. Lovely overnight accommodation. Great views of countryside. Can watch the river go by as you have a shower. The place is not cheap however. Far from it. But great as occasional treat.
Today we had a special lunch in the private dining room upstairs, reached through the kitchen. We dined...best word for the experience... incredibly well. We ordered ala carte as we had time constraints but we all wanted the five course menu, a value at £65. Three of us had a tortolono of Cornish lobster in a jus of tomato essence and herbs with tomatoes. They began their life as tomatoes but they came to the bowl as individual sparks of brilliance. I cannot describe the deliciousness. Others had scallop ceviche. Fresh handdived Cornish scallops with lime and basil oil and genius. Ceviche is not the right word for what this is. Afterwards we ate turbot and lamb. I've exhausted superlatives but they were delicious. Bruno the dog kept a close eye to make sure we continued to receive outstanding knowledgeable service. He needn't have worried. Just wonderful.
Wow! This place is incredible. We loved our foodie weekend. My husband is gluten free and vegetarian and they made him is own bespoke menu for all the meals and catered to him for breakfast. Highly recommended this to anyone, the food, service and atmosphere were phenomenal!
Excellent food in a beautiful location. They also have lovely country walks to sober up afterwards.
