Quality food, excellently cooked & presented.
Friendly attentive staff
Highly recommend this place!
Gorgeous pub. Amazing food... especially the Thai Duck and Cashew Salad! Great staff and service. Amazing room... Number 3 'Mustard' ( cos it is! ) with an awesome bath and shower ....
Was originally called The Rising Sun but bought by two businessmen literally called Mr Mole and Mr Chick!!
Second amazing meal at the mole and chicken, squid starters fantastic , roast beef was stunning , staff very attentive and fab service , would highly recommended - thank you guys x
This is my favourite Restaurant. Good atmosphere, friendly staff who make you very welcome.
Fab food. I always have my favourite Thai duck salad. Yummy Sunday lunchs.
There's the usual menu and specials of the day. There's always something I like.
This is a nice find in many ways. We have bought property in the area for retirement and have been to the Mole and Chicken a couple of times when up that way even though we don’t live there yet. There are a couple of eateries in the area that are good but the Nole and Chicken defiantly scores the most points. Great food, friendly atmosphere great place all round.
I love this place. Staying here every week on business: it’s homely, beautifully decorated, so comfortable and welcoming. Staff are great, food is divine!!! Nothing is too much trouble. You will not be disappointed after a visit.
Beautiful venue with great quality seasonal menu. Whether it's a morning coffee or a celebration meal you won't be disappointed.
Great service, lovely food. Have eaten here several time over 20+ years and have never been disappointed. Recently seems less manic and more relaxed. Some reviews mention a limited menu - personally I prefer a short menu as it means they are concentrating on seasonal / creative dishes rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

Had a wonderful lunch today. I'm very fussy about my fish but the stone bass was absolute perfection. My daughter's chicken and mushrooms risotto was divine. We found that the meals and deserts were so well balanced that we did not feel as we had over eaten. The staff were warm and friendly. Beautiful setting as well.
We came across this place by accident, but what a great find!! The location is beautiful, the food was amazing and the service was friendly and prompt. We hadn't booked, but they found us a table and didn't rush us to move on. Honestly the best Sticky Toffee pudding I've had, and I've had more than a few! We'll be back and hoping to take my parents, so hopefully there will be some dreaded Gluten Free options....
Great food, lovely location and very friendly staff, ready to chat and recommend rings if you're unsure.
Fabulous lunch looking out onto the beautiful countryside! Staff very attentive and friendly, will be back very soon.
Lovely lunch at The Mole & Chicken! Back under new management and seemed much more settled than during the lockdown days. Food was very nice - nothing pretentious and nothing particularly outstanding, but all of the plates were cleared - evidence of very nice pub grub on the upper end of the market. As always the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, friendly staff and gorgeous views. Attached are some pictures of our food as well as the view (on a wet, windy day!) and the restaurant itself. Lovely little dining spot!
What a wonderful, old, quaint building tucked away with a wonderful view! Friendly staff, a warming real-log fire, and a nice back area complete the venue. The food was absolutely delicious too! The mushroom mousse starter and crispy duck salad were top-notch! Also, the tripple-cooked chips are some of the best to be found in a pub.
Fantastic place !!!!!
Super warm welcome from the staff. Feels very cosy and inviting.
Decor and ambiance is great.
Fabulous selection of wines and beers.
Great inventive menu, some real little gems and not just normal menu items that are found elsewhere. Menu has some pub clasics but also some real triumphs in there too, the crab starter was an absolute stand out dish !!!
Staff were super friendly and very attentive adding to this fabulous dining experience.
Plenty of car parking and also rooms avalible that we would probably take advantage of for future visits.
Very clean throughout with hand sanitizers dotted around.
Under new management and is definitely worth a vist !!
Great work guys, Keep it up !!!!
Charming decor, experienced staff, well kept beers, interesting menu, good breakfasts, comfortable bedrooms and excellent tiered decking with rural views.
Really great quality roast meal served with a smile.
We shared the scoth egg with haggis, before having mains of roast pork and beef. All food was exceptional!
Great find. Hotel: What a fantastic boutique hotel and pub. Each of the small number of rooms is decorated in a unique way. All of them have a unique feature which makes each of them a delight to stay in. My favourite is mushroom with the lovely balcony area you can sit on and watch the sheep in the fields. They have excellent tea& coffee(nespresso) facilities - including a jar of shortbread. The bath facilities are lovely with branded shampoo, conditioner and soap. Pub: lovely place to sit for a few drinks come summer or winter. Restaurant : A fantastic selection of dishes with unique features but one theme- fantastic tasting food that respects each of the ingredients that goes into it. I’ve had some of my favourite meals there and I’ve tried to replicate them at home but it’s just not possible. Breakfast: a fresh, modern selection of foods including a unique selection of ingredients such as a particular type of eggs I had with the darkest tastiest yoke I have ever eaten. Overall, once you come here you’ll want to come back. A business that truly deserves to thrive.
An absolute gem. A stunning little country pub, quirky & atmospheric. The welcome I received made me feel immediately at home. I stayed for 3 nights, all of my needs were met & surpassed. My room was beautifully decorated & really comfortable, everything I needed was provided & really good quality, countryside views from both windows. The restaurant was fantastic, great quality, beautifully presented, well cooked food. I can't recommend The Mole & Chicken highly enough, treat yourself to a stay or a meal here.
Lovely B&B, comfortable rooms with outstanding food. English breakfast was a real highlight. Close to Notley Abbey wedding venue.
Lovely hotel room, very quirky and the complimentary drinks in the room were lovely and high quality. A leak in the bathroom meant there was a very wet and cold floor in the morning. Pub was closed when I stayed so can't comment on the pub. Staff member did let me know where else I could dine that night, very polite. I did get a top notch 5* breakfast the next morning, thank you Chef.
Great for an overnight stay. Interesting rooms with a great view, little terrace and seat outside. We were at a Waddesdon Concert just a few miles away. Good breakfast. A lovely country pub well off the beaten track.
Had a lovely stay at the mole and chicken. Room was warm and cosy with all required amenities provided. Breakfast could be provided for longer periods. Very lovely pub with open fire.
Stopped off on our travels. Really lovely, understated pub with a warm atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. The food was truly a "a cut above" the usual pub fare. The bonus was it's dog friendly and the proprietor made a fuss of our dog. Must add - I'm coeliac and there were a number of gluten-free options. Thank you!
Had such a great lunch midweek. Exceptional food and lovely drinks. Can’t wait to go back to try more of the impressive menu!
An absolutely delightful pub. The food was excellent, the service was great, and I highly recommend it to anyone!
Lovely country pub with friendly staff, loads of atmosphere and good food.
