Having been a hapless passenger six months ago when I was first brought to The Tollgate and remembering with no small degree of fondness the *amazing* coffee & walnut cake I had, today I made a special point to take a route back from Cornwall to London that would ensure a timely stop off at this enchanting tea shop. I can't recommend it enough -- superb food, scones to die for (some leftovers of which the exceptionally kind and friendly staff handed to us on our way out), glorious views, and two delightful little ponies. Bypass any and all service stations and make your way to this place, conveniently situated just off the M4. We will certainly be back! :D
Great selection on the menu. Our breakfast was very tasty and presented yummy! Friendly service, very attentive. Highly recommend!
Where to start! The food was simply lovely and the service couldn't have been better and nothing like walking around the garden after having eaten an industrial quantity of cake. I will planning all my trips west via this little gem!
Quite possibly the best Rarebit I've ever had - washed down with an excellent coffee and finished off by some fantastic Sticky Toffee Pudding. A delightful meal from start to finish: my wife and I will certainly be back!
Fantastic atmosphere inside; fantastic view to gaze upon outside! By far the best scone I've ever had for a cream tea. Also, loved the brand of loose leaf tea so much that I plan to buy some soon. Chatted with the owner afterwards who was extremely friendly. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Friendly staff and lovely food. Definitely worth a visit οΏ½
Β£10 for a breakfast and cup of tea, expensive but good quality food. Better than a lot I could mention.
Excellent food and ambience. The wait was however a bit too long.
Wonderful food and a proper cup of tea - nice staff and reasonable price
Wonderful place, if you wanna stop and fancy afternoon tea. Smiley waitress.
Every time we are en route to the in laws in Stratford upon Agon, we stop at the Tollgate for breakfast. The food is fantastic and the ladies are lovely. We always feel very welcome.
Fantastic tea room wonderful food and lovely staff.
Service was at a relaxed pace with friendly staff and fabulous views.
The food is really high quality, nicely presented and tasted really good.
The fish finger burger was a real hit with the kids.
A real gem on the A46.
Very quaint and stylish restaurant by the A46. Wonderful views over the valley below. I had a really good breakfast served by polite friendly staff. Proper loose leaf tea, everything freshly prepared, thank you.
Lovely staff and very friendly nothing too much trouble. Lovely views and very cosy tearooms with divine foodππ pancakes were lovely not enough maple syrup they had run out!!!!
The choices of alternative milk was limited no coconut, oat or almond! We will definitely be going back for the lunch menu πππ
Wow! It's the first thing I can say after my visit here. What a great location and amazing view if you're sat down in the garden. But most important was that the food was absolutely delicious π !
Great service π seriously well done! Very positive and friendly service we've received from our waitress today. (Young Polish girl with dark hair, i didnβt ask for her name π).
I've had Sunday roast in many places, but the one I've had today was outstanding! π
There is parking available outside if you need to know. Kiddy version of Sunday roast was also available. π Affordable prices, and most important good quality food.
My overall experience today is..... 5β!!!
Let's the numbers speak for themselves, as I've left there 20% tip which they've clearly deserved, and trust me I don't do that often.
We will definitely come back there π
Great job!βββββ
Had afternoon tea time for 5 people. Very reasonable price. Very generous dishes. High quality sandwiches ( the brie and raspberries jam is a must) and the cakes are wonderful. All with a nice view over the valley. We made a reservation via Facebook chat the day before and they responded quickly. Highly recommend.
It was serendipity coming across this gem. It is situated just off the M4 in a very quiet area surrounded by open fields. The vintage theme of the cafe/restaurant gives off a homely atmosphere. The food is hearty with a good selection to choose from, and the staff are welcoming and friendly.
Lovely restaurant/cafe just off M4 on the road to Bath. Perfect stop on the way to the SW if you prefer not to use the motorway services.
A very beautiful cafe overlooking Bristol, the roast dinner was very tasty. Well seasoned and a very big portion I highly recommend it.
Amazing pizza and dessert busy and quite small if wanting to eat so recommend booking. View outside is also amazing so if nice weather and can sit outside enjoy the view.
Such a beautiful place and the food is out of this world. Cant belive it took me so long to stop here ππ
The food was great and the service was even betterππ½ Was a perfect stop for breakfast..
Best afternoon break in ages.

Beautiful old building.
Lovely breakfast nicely presented. We sat outside in the marquee with beautiful views of the countryside.
Excellent food, felt for the staff who were so busy but still gave really good service.
Definitely recommend. :)
A nice lunch!
Friendly helpful staff, and nice food.
We had the macaroni cheese and the house salad (generous portions). The beast smoothie was lovely and refreshing.
We saw but didn't have time to try the afternoon tea - they look great and we intend to sample on our next trip.
