Having a meal at Yamazushi is a wonderful, and uncommon experience. The food style is Kaiseki, which is a multi-course meal served in stages just after preparation. The food ingredients are the finest available and appropriate for the season of the year. The service is very personal, and the food presentation is first rate. Everything, including the palate cleansing sorbet, were hand made. Meal seating is limited to 6 or 8 guests, so it is very intimate.
Both the food and serivce were exceptional. A great experience.
This place may be the greatest hidden gem in the Triangle dining scene. It's a penultimate convergence of experience, quality, service and flavor. If you want an authentic kaiseki dining experience outside of Japan, this is it!
Amazing food and amazing (authentic) experience. We had 8 courses with paired sake, and each pottery plate was hand made by the chef (individually unique). Food presentation was superb. We also had a Japanese matcha tea with a short ceremony by the chef's wife. Hands down one of the best cuisine in the entire RTP. PS: Reservation only (no walk-ins). With paired sake, tax, tea, and tip, cost runs ~$220/person but it was worth every penny.
Our dining experience and the food preparation was beyond anything I can even explain in words yet alone write them down. It was amazing! It was spectacular! From the minute we entered the restaurant to us actually walking out the door we were treated like VIP's. Everyone should go here to experience the hospitality, the beautiful presentation of the food, the taste of the fresh food and to just be catered to. Definitely 5 star
The uniqueness of this restaurant is beyond anyones expectations-
This restaurant was phenomenal! The food was so fresh and carefully prepared. It was served on beautiful pottery that is made by the chef. I would highly recommend Yamazushi, especially if you are an adventurous eater.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was very pleasant. I would highly recommend going here for a special occasion!
This is an amazing experience!! I can't wait to return for a third time around!

This experience was truly delightful! From the visual of the foods, to the aroma, and not to mention the taste. It is an experience to be had at least once, but we plan on returning again!
Amazing and delightful experience!
Very high ratings for communication, customer service, and quality.
From the second you enter the restaurant you feel as though you are halfway around the world. You get lost in the food/decor. Every dish served was visually appealing, fresh, and tasty. This is a once in a lifetime experience and would recommend it. It is more of an experience than anything else.
Be prepared for a long wait to get a reservation and for smaller portions than most are accustomed to. The price is also high, but it's not a place you will eat at often and the experience is worth it.
Hard to give this anything other than 5 stars, intimate setting, chef is this older japanese gentleman and server is his wife. Waitlist is months long and the price is not cheap.
Best thing to do is let go and allow the chef take you on an adventure. From his handmade plates and silverware, to the garnishes from his home garden, and presentation of the food. Food itself was enjoyable but the combined experience heightened the sensation. Lucky to have this in NC, much less our small town of Durham.
Our experience was beautiful and artfully guided. Chef Yamazushi's eight course menu was skillfully designed, beautifully prepared and delicious. *Also as a bonus, the assorted pottery made by chef was a treat. Yamazushi lives up to its reputation as the most authentic Japanese cuisine in the Triangle.
Fantastic service in a small, cozy setting. Food is stellar, if a bit expensive. The 2 hour long experience is one I will remember. Reservations are required, and you might have to wait months, but I’d say it was worth it. From the pottery, to the ambiance, and food - a unique experience.
Had a fantastic birthday dinner here with my wife. I felt like I was back in Tokyo. Food and sake were top notch and service was perfect. I even received a gift bottle when I left. I wish I would say I will be back but it is hard to get a seat there. Highly recommend.
Just wonderful. I’ve been to several kaiseki restaurants in NYC and Tokyo and this one compares favorably. The wagashi was maybe the best I’ve tasted. Go for the sake pairing, it’s worth it. Service is impeccable. Wonderful NC treasure.
It was an awesome experience eating at yamazushi. The decor, the atmosphere is very calming and soothing. All the sashimi is really good and melts in your mouth, but tempura could have been better considering the price point.
One of the most interesting and unique dining experiences we've ever had. One of the most expensive as well, but considering they only seat 2 tables a night, it's not unreasonable. We loved that the chef made all of the dishware we ate off of. And his wife provided incredible service. Not something we can afford to do regularly but we'd love to try it again sometime.
Once in a lifetime experience. I'll never forget my evening here. I'm already shouting at other friends to go here and have this experience. The food is great, but the environment is the star of the show.
What an experience! They are so nice and put so much thought into the process. The chef made all the plates (and I suspect lots of the decor too). You get to have a variety of Japanese food. The flavors are so delicate. Def worth the wait and is a gem!
