Absolutely fantastic!!...
The venue itself is stunning, it has been modernised to an amazing standard keeping all of the character and original features.
A pianist and singer played in the restaurant, the music was tasteful and set a lovely ambience.
The Food was out of this world!! Me and my Mam both ordered the 35 day aged ribeye steaks, they were perfectly cooked..melted In your mouth!
Awww... and The sticky toffee pudding.. Mmm!Also a great selection of drinks available.
The service was Absolutely Fantastic ...All of the staff were so friendly, from the minute we walked in the door to the second we left we couldn't of been any better looked after. Loved Coleen, so down to earth and super efficient, she made sure everyone was kept happy while they were in the bar area.
Me and my Mam were also lucky enough to meet Marco himself...what a guy!!
Would highly recommend this place to anyone, we will certainly be back.
Thankyou so much again for a lovely evening xxx
This place does not dissapoint. All staff were lovely. When we arrived we got shown 2 our table and enquired about the steak chateaubriand as I like a medium steak and other half likes it rare. . Advised 2 get it cooked medium and I would have the outsiders of the steak and other half have the middle. And his advice was spot on . . It was absolute delicious. Our waitress Ruth could not do enough for us, asking if we were warm enough, advising us on the side orders etc. Then as it was quiet she asked if I would like 2 c a room. . It was beautiful.Ruth was very informative about the building and furnishings. We really did get 1st class treatment. Cannot wait to go back

Bob had potted duck and that was also exceptional our main was lamb shepherds pie and honey glazed belly pork all washed down with a lovely bottle of redwe then went in to the bar area an finished with a gin cocktail our visit today to this beautiful building everything was perfect the surroundings all the detail the staff everything was fantastic thankyou for a perfect day can't wait to visit again
Had a meal with friends here last night and we all had a great night! Beautiful food, bar staff and waiting staff were brilliant and would definitely recommend a visit, stunning building and setting.
I had the belly pork, I died and went to heaven. Never known so much flavour in one dish. I had it withe green beans, and they were cooked to perfection. The staff were really good and friendly, but it is Durham, and everyone is like that there.
The venue itself is wonderful but the staff and the food are what makes this restaurant fantastic. We had a lovely evening with great service and would definitely be back and highly recommend it! Thankyou
The building is absolutely stunning and so full of character. Our waitress, Kirsty was very friendly and attentive and as for the food - everything cooked to perfection. I asked for pink lamb, and it was pink, soft and delicious. The accompanying fondant potato was soft and huge! The dressed crab comes with separate mayonnaise, which is a great idea - you mix it to your own taste. The potted duck was delicious and had excellent texture. I would definitely eat there again.
Wow - amazing fillet steak! The food was amazing, all the people so friendly and the venue is stunning. Stayed in the hotel and the breakfast was also lush. Definitely recommend.
Had a wonderful afternoon tea the device was excellent our waitress was Kerry who could not do enough for you and our little granddaughter .the cakes were beautiful you could taste every flaver in them the sandwich were very fresh the scones were warm with jam and clotted cream x
Bravo MPW & Hotel Indigo
Absolutely stunning place, a fabulous blend of the old original Shire Hall & new sophisticated & stylish
wonderful staff, friendly & attentive without being overbearing
We had a fabulous afternoon tea & will be back very soon
First time diners at Marco Pierre for 2 of our birthdays, and it was superb.
The service from Chloe and at least 3 other people was top-notch.
The food was so good, there wasn't one thing we didn't love.
It is pricey, so it would be a treat and not a normal place to go, but it was well worth it.
Went here for afternoon tea, the dining room was quite empty when we arrived but the service was spot on and quick. They confirmed the dietary requirements and bought out coffee, which was refillable then the separate gluten-free and normal afternoon tea. The food was lovely, but I would have preferred at least one more savoury and/or one less cake as it got very sickly towards the end. The restaurant itself was magnificent the decor, stained glass windows etc were very impressive.
It was our first dining experience at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Durham.
I have to say that I was very impressed with the food and the service.
It was a breath of fresh air to see the sleek, efficient, and very professional service.
Jess, the waitress, was knowledgeable, very friendly with excellent sense of humour which lifted up even further the overall experience.
Kirsty, the Service Manager, was very efficient and very experienced with the sharp grip to managing the fast and quality service of high standard. Staff were attentive to details and provided that required atmosphere for a very enjoyable evening.
We shall definitely return and will also recommend this venue to others.
For a marco Pierre white restaurant I didn't expect a reasonably priced set menu for Sunday lunch but while visiting Durham it was a nice change to go somewhere with a high standard like this.
I went on my own but the portion size was more than enough for two people when it came to the veg, I asked for no pigs in blankets and before I asked if I was able to swap for something else the server suggested an alternative.
They checked repeatedly about any allergies or dietary requirements which I felt was very welcome even tho I don't have any.
They actually stopped me ordering a dessert till I'd eaten my main as I may be full by that point.
The only reason they have got 4 stars was the pork was served on top of the potatoes and wasn't covered in gravy keeping it moist so with the short walk from kitchen to table it was drying out.
But all in all better than your everyday Sunday lunch places treat yourself for only £25. Well worth a 2 course meal for sure. I forgot to take a picture of my veg I was so hungry.
Family Sunday lunch for our 70th birthdays,
Absolutely fabulous. Many thanks to Rachel,
Sophie and all the MPW team at Durham for a fabulous day.
Thankyou SO much to Kayleigh & all of her team, if I could give you 6 stars I would! Nothing was any trouble, helped decorate the table for my occasion too and made it perfect, thankyou again! :)
We had a group meal (40th birthday celebration) and there was 17 of my family dining together upstairs in the balcony area so had lovely view above the circular dome room.
Had a fab deal on the mains with 50% off (had to be ordered by 3pm) which really made a difference, I had french onion soup to start, fillet steak for mains and crumble for desert, all of it was delicious (soup was slightly salty but gave feedback for the chef), everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and there were no empty plates left, cannot wait to come back again and would highly recommend anyone to please come and dine here if you haven't before.
Staff, food, venue, location,prices,communication - 10/10
Thankyou, Adam
Excellent experience from start to finish. Great selection of dishes on the menu and a good wine list. Scotch Egg, Fillet Steak, Apple & Almond Crumble and Cabernet Sauvignon all fabulous.
Wholeheartedly recommend this place for that special occasion.
Set in old red brick former council chambers. My wife booked it for my birthday. We've visited this restaurant a few times over the years anniversary etc. The staff are always friendly and respectful the food is excellent
Lovely afternoon tea in an interesting and well decorated room. Scones were fantastic.
A little pricy and a 10% service charge automatically added on the bill but that seems to be normal these days.
Only reason I docked a star was that the restaurant was closed for refurbishment and we had to settle for dining in the Bar. Standard was nonetheless very high. Butchers steak was succulent and flawlessly cooked. Highly recommended.
Lovely restaurant. Excellent service. Five course Christmas dinner. Starters and pudding excellent. Fish very good. Turkey dinner average.
I thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit to the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse in Durham. I went for a Sunday lunch and not only was the food great but the staff were fantastic also. They were very welcoming, friendly and attentive which isn't too common nowadays. The setting is lovely too. Well worth a visit and some deals can be had online :)
