A very pleasant dinner here, a somewhat limited menu choice but I was very pleased with my choices. The burrata starter was delicious, and I chose the salmon fillet for main course, with a langoustine bisque… could have eaten five more of those they were lovely. The atmosphere is warm and decor not described as modern. However, the restaurant did have a very welcoming field. Price wise I would say it is mid range, certainly not a cheap dinner. However, the quality was worth the price tag.

We have been to several restaurants in Durham and Finbarr's was certainly the best. The restaurant is comfortable and well designed for screened tables. All the food was delicious. We had the lunch set menu which was good value, as were the wines.

Main dish was a scotch beef. It was delicious. Starter is pigeon breast . Really good but other components on the dish were average. Decoration was very out dated.Room (up stairs) very claustrophobic. Ambiance is really very poor. If you close your eyes and just focus on meal fine, else look for a better decorated place.

If you want to make someone feel special or its an occasion, then this is the venue for you in Durham City. Enjoyed the meal too much to take photographs. Service ... outstanding!

We were a party of 9 at a work Christmas Dinner and were very well looked after. Restaurant is gorgeous inside, very elegant. The bar was cosy (a little too warm at one point with 9 of us, but we had fun). Drinks are reasonably priced for a place like this. Service was friendly and efficient (especially the lady looking after us in the room upstairs). Food was delicious - steaks were perfectly cooked, chips crisp and desserts tasty. Cheese croquettes - could serve a couple instead of one. Steak could be accompanied by a few more fries too (the fish cakes got lots though). Great meal overall and excellent service.

Best restaurant in Durham (admittedly the City is not famed for its cuisine, but Finbarr's would be deemed good in any location). Great food, well cooked and a good wine list. Excellent venison and duck, local seafood and delicious haggis scotch eggs. Yummy souffle and mousse for dessert. Really good bread. Service not very slick and one waitress was clearly not having a good day, as she offered a frown from first meeting and was lacking a smile throughout the evening unless encouraged. We will return.

Nice atmosphere, friendly but somewhat slow service. High quality tasty food and lots of screens between tables. Would recommend!

Good Sunday roast - the meat was fantastic although everything else slightly paled in comparison. Staff were great and one of the best COVID set-ups I’ve seen.

Having returned to Finbars in Jan 23 I have to say that the experience was very different and disappointing the standards have not been maintained and the dress code for customers has now been removed, some of the staff were also wearing jeans and trainers which for a high end restaurant is very disappointing, children were present and there did not seem to be any maitre d in charge of the dining room food was still good but if standards continue to drop then we will certainly go elsewhere.

Good, solid menu and my main course was truly excellent. My preference is for food to only be served on white crockery and tables to be covered in a white table cloth. That apart the service was pleasant and timely. The dining room is a little dark but feel sure for dinner dining it would be intimate and cosy.

We ordered a three course take home meal from Finbar's for a birthday celebration. It was simply divine. The food was available promptly when we arrived to collect it and the instructions to warm and serve it were easy to follow. Fantastic restaurant quality food at home. It was gorgeous. We'll definitely go back during lock down but can't wait until they open up again properly.
