Awesome historical village to stay in with the wonderful tradition of the Ship pub with a cosy character environment in idyllic surroundings. The food is excellent and the staff welcoming and friendly. Although easy and quick to get to nearby places, such as Southwold, this is so rural and perfect for a getaway. There are lovely walks surrounding the village and to coastal spots and the seaside is a stones throw for The Ship. I Can't recommend a visit to Dunwich and a stay/meal at the wonderful Ship Inn enough.

We love The Ship. It's dog friendly (the staff ask whether your dog wants a sausage at breakfast). The rooms are very clean. The food is excellent and lots of it and all the staff are lovely and can't do enough for you. It's location is fantastic and handy to explore the rest of Suffolk. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I have been coming here for 30+ years. Originally with my family as a child and more recently with my partner and friends. It's a brilliant village pub and one of my favourite places to eat/stay in Suffolk. A relaxed village pub, with simple clean rooms, friendly service and bags of charm. Food is always very good. The Ship has a fairly standard pub menu (fish pie, ham/egg/chips, burger, fish & chips, chicken, curry) but there are always seafood specials for people who prefer lighter meals. I always have the seafood specials and the fish is excellent! Lemon sole, mackerel, sea bream - its always very good. In summer months the conservatory out the back and the garden are lovely places to eat. In winter I recommend eating at the bar by the roaring open fire.

What a fantastic find. Pub and staff lovely. Had our dog with us and we were all made very welcome. Stayed in the 'beacon view' room which was lovely and perfect as right beside beer garden with our pup. Beach across road a huge bonus. Will def be back. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Hewie our dog enjoyed the sausage he was given at breakfast. Food great! Many thanks.

Been going to the Ship for many years but have never written a review. Stopped for lunch yesterday and as always it was great. Just wanted to say a special thanks for the veggie food you have on your menu, it's not the 'usual' and certainly not an 'afterthought' like you seem to get with many places. The meat eaters in the group are always impressed too. A lovely, welcoming, dog friendly pub with good food and ale and a fine pit stop when exploring the beautiful Suffolk coastline

Stayed last night (Monday). Very welcoming and friendly staff. Took our dog who was very welcome and fussed over. Great food and real ale choices and fab location. Walks in woods and beach. Room small but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Fantastic breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Never had a bad meal here! Breakfast, lunch or dinner always great. But best by far is 'Colin's sticky toffee pudding'... we might have been know to drive 2.5hrs there, just for the STP 😆

We have been staying here for two nights in the wonderfully cozy seafields room, with views over the marshes. Excellent food and friendly efficient service. The beach and priory ruins are just a stone’s throw away. Lots of history - Dunwich has its own museum. Really couldn’t fault it.

Booked best rooms for our group of two couples for our annual May visit and the upgrade was worth the money. Rooms comfortable and clean. Staff super friendly, food and service great. Only gripe was 10pm last orders for residents at the bar. Seemed a bit early as most pubs serve until 11pm.

We had visited the pub before for meals and drinks in past years but never stayed there. We booked online which was dead easy and information was clear and concise; also booked a meal by phone for our first night again friendly staff at the end of the phone; room was very nice and spacious and well equipped and quiet at night maybe just a touch too warm but it was sort of change over seasons. Breakfasts were superb with great choice and lovely food and the evening meals we had were also superb with nice wine choice. All in all a very good experience and we will be back. Excellent value for money as well. Graham and Julia Catley

The Ship is an absolutely lovely pub with so much space; it has a really large beer garden and then a number of different rooms to sit inside, each of which are really individual. It’s located only a short walk from Dunwich beach. The staff a friendly, service and food of a high quality and good value for money. We can’t wait to go back - five stars.

Generally very good. The bedroom was good although forgotten how small “small double “ is,my mistake! Lots of nice touches in the bathroom. Mentioned at the time how a handle in the bath would help getting in and out of the bath and I believe this was noted. Food good as was service, my chips were not cooked with my burger , but I wasn’t v hungry so I chose not to mentor. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. However, we found our room a little too cramped and there were a few minor initial problems. However, these were sorted very swiftly once we reported them 👍. Food was great and drinks were good too albeit a tad expensive. Also, a few comfy chairs/ sofas in a snug wouldn’t go amiss. Otherwise, a lovely break and all of the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming… thumbs up to them all 👍

This is a lovely pub, very dog friendly, welcoming staff and the food was tasty, waited a long time for our main meal but when I pointed this out to the manager she kindly deducted the price of my main. I'd definitely visit here again

Lovely location, cosy traditional inn - busy with a friendly atmosphere. Accommodation good value. The food (breakfast & dinner) and service were excellent. Some areas of the pub would perhaps benefit from an upgrade. Very doggy friendly, great for dog lovers, but may not suit those who are not.

We required a room at short notice in the evening and The Ship was able to readily accommodate us and went out of their way to help us. Dinner was fabulous fish and chips. Breakfast had a range of options that met the satisfaction of the whole family. The family room we stayed in was comfortable and spacious and fitted all 5 of the family.

Small-ish but charming room with nice French style bed, ( firm mattress), cool retro style kettle and radio, and nice views over the woods. Dog friendly pub with charming bar room. Clean and well looked after, with enjoyable food and lovely service. Will definitely come back.

Beautiful room (Seafields). Incredibly comfortable, clean and with very well stocked tea and coffee. Nice little extra touches with the radio and lovely bathroom toiletries. The staff were exceptional - very friendly and attentive. The ambience in the bar area for the evening meal was lovely and cosy and the food itself was faultless. The breakfast menu was extensive and the service was swift. A wonderful experience all round and we will definitely be staying again. Thank you!

We were a little dubious at first because of the drab, dark, decor downstairs (all in dark blue), but the staff are very friendly and professional, our room was immaculate, and the food absolutely fantastic. The coastal location is beautiful, with none of the heavy traffic and hassle of South Coast resorts. The Beach Cafe was closed in the afternoon, as was the Museum, although there were quite a lot of visitors to the area, but that's just Suffolk!

A great location, great food and good room, the only downside was the freshly painted radiator giving off fumes in the room when hot which at this time of year it needed to do. That said we did not let this deter us from what was a fantastic weekend and this great location.
