Great pub grub. Straight forward, simple pub food at it's best. Big portions and good price. Place is always busy and lively whenever I have been.
A very warm welcome by friendly accommodating staff. An excellent selection of real ale, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Orkney Dark Island and Caledonian Deuchar 's IPA. All Caledonian and served in good condition. Food was excellent quality and value pub grub on the menu. Lively friendly atmosphere and an evident favourite with plenty of regulars in. Will visit again.
The Pheonix Bar is a Dundee institution. It has a prominent place in the bar industry within the city. The original decor helps to add to the ambience along with the eclectic mix of clientele.
Staff within the premises are always friendly and helpful. The food is proper pub grub and the curly fries are a must have.
Dogs are also allowed 🐕
Busy busy as always.. Nice buzz about the place... Just great fun trying to weave to the toilets without spilling someone's drink!
I can't believe I haven't been here before! What an atmospheric place and lovely staff who made us feel so very welcomed... One those unique pubs that kept its original features... I'll be back...
Great Victorian pub in the heart of Dundee. Superb drink selection, including several real ales in great condition. Food is good too. Lively and busy on a Saturday evening, but no problem getting served as plenty of staff on. Really enjoyed my visit. Highly recommended if you visit Dundee.
I visited with an American friend. She wanted to try genuine 'pub' food instead of the themed type which is prevalent in her part of the States.
We had cheese burgers and the 'ganga' fries. The fries are spicy, crispy and come with a lovely hot dip. Great for sharing. The burger was good and flavourful, good portions.
My friend ordered drinks and wasn't sure what to order. The bar tender was brilliant, and was quickly able to pinpoint what she may like and poured generous tasters for her to try. Friendly regulars too, who made her feel at ease in an unfamiliar environment.
Although on the level, accessibility for wheelchairs could be a problem, and the doorway could be a little tricky to navigate, especially when it's busy. I wouldn't recommend it for wheelchair users. This is mainly due to the age of the premises and the probable difficulty of upgrading the place to accommodate those with limited mobility.
Phoenix is a fantastic pub though! It was a regular haunt of mine when I went to college and art school in Dundee. There are lots of interesting paintings and drawings on the walls which tells of its link to the university and college.
I was pleased to experience that 'The Phoenix' still maintains excellent standards and the locals are as friendly as ever.
The Phoenix has always been one of the best bars in Dundee's West End area. I often drank here 30yrs ago when I lived in Dundee. Popped in again tonight while visiting the city and the atmosphere was just as good as always. Thanks
Now I visit The Phoenix Bar on almost every occasion I return to Dundee. Yesterday I went with my lass for lunch. In almost thirty-five years the menu has stayed consistent with specials of the day supplementing the favourites. The service from behind the bar is brilliant and the food is the best. The chilli burger, as ever, was phenomenal. The ambiance is great as are the prices. This is one part of Dundee that should be listed. Enjoy.
Brilliant as always. Service from Paul, tremendous. Worried whoever the new buyer will be, will change it. Will be the biggest mistake ever. Perfect as it is.
As always we had the best food and service.
Amazing value for money.
Definitely worth a visit.
