One of the best restaurants I've been to! The staff were very friendly and always made sure we were comfortable and we enjoyed our food. The food itself was absolutely stunning and reasonably priced for the high quality. Didn't have to wait long. Stunning restaurant.

Our 2nd visit courtesy of a gift card following my wife's retirement. Decided to try out the steak night which is £45 for a sharing 16oz sirloin steak, two portions of steak cut chips, two sauces (we chose one peppercorn and one blue cheese) and a portion of mac cheese + a bottle of red wine! Excellent value and good quality food.

Never been here before. I'm on holiday and decided to stop of for a bite to eat. In all my years of eating out I've just had one of the best sirloin steaks EVER. Their chief absolutely nailed it.. The starter, the main meal, the dessert... Fantastic.....5 stars all day long. Highly recommended ❤️❤️❤️👍

If you have nothing else, have the scotch egg. Excellent. The burger was great although the TBS sauce was far too salty for my taste. All in all, an excellent venue, great food and great service. Just cut back on the salt!

Relaxed, friendly, busy, cafe style bistro serving delicious, really good food. You look at the menu and think, well that looks ok, and then the food arrives and it's generous platefuls of absolute flavour bombs! Kudos to the chef who clearly knows how to season well and cook vegetables, fish, and poultry properly. And thumbs up for stocking local spirits. The only downside is due to the high ceiling and echoey space the sound of other diners can be intrusive. And please install an expel-air, when we were there it was very smoky and our clothes smelled from all the cooking. It's very busy so best to book in advance. Thanks for a lovely evening.

On a recent trip to visit an old friend in Dumfries we decided to take a jaunt into town for some dinner. Fortunately my friend had the presence of mind to book a table as this hidden gem of a restaurant was fully booked (all socially distanced & covid compliant). Sadly due to said covid rules alcohol was not permitted indoors so we went for a selection of mocktails rather than a nice bottle of wine. Mocktails we’re all very tasty, I especially enjoyed the pomegranate one - can’t remember the full, fancy name. For starter I had mozzarella dippers that were exquisitely made - a nice fluffy batter with a lovely, stringy mozzarella inside. For mains I had the macaroni (I was clearly in the mood for cheese in hindsight…). The presentation was excellent - looking almost like a piece of abstract artwork. Almost felt wrong to ruin it by eating it but needs must, I was hungry. It was delicious and very nicely seasoned. For desert I opted for some sorbet as I always find it to be an excellent palate-cleanser. Really was a very enjoyable evening and meal. Reasonably priced also. For two 3 course meals & a selection of drinks it came in at under £60. If you are from the area or passing through I would recommend this restaurant in the highest order. I’ll definitely be back.

The food is amazing! First time trying this place & I was not disappointed! Great value for money & good quality food! Great portion sizes & not long wait times (which I love). The waitresses were very polite and welcoming. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely incredible. My family of 4 came to the Back Street to celebrate the end of our holiday in the Dumfries area. After seeing the very positive reviews about the Haggis scotch egg it's fair to say we were more than a little bit excited to try the place out. And I can tell you it did not disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious, everything was well presented with good portion sizes. The flavours and smell of everything we had was amazing. My vegetarian mum had spent the whole holiday struggling to find food that wasn't flavourless and had a variety of texture to it. The Back Street achieved this for her and she said it was the best meal she's had in a long time. Along with the delicious food came absolutely incredible customer service. The waitresses were extremely polite and helpful throughout the evening. The atmosphere of the place was also excellent, my family pointing out that not a single person in the restaurant looked sad and there were smiles all around. It's a shame we don't live closer to Dumfries because we would absolutely love to come back. Thank you to everyone who works there!
