Reviews The Ship Inn

We frequently drop in to The Ship for the joys of sitting on the riverbank in the sunshine and watching the boats go by with a pint in hand. We have always found it good, though it can be rammed. It's not often we visit on cold, dark winter nights. That may change after we booked, on a whim, their Valentine's night special. And yes, it was 'special'. Simply, the menu, and what was delivered from it, was of a standard you might expect from a self-proclaimed 'Gastro pub' whilst the prices weren't. You couldn't fault the service either. Fast and efficient. I chose Hake for the main course and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked and served on crushed potatoes. I notice too, that they do a very attractive deal for the over 60s at times during the week. Certainly, Friday lunchtime 'fish and chips' will be a goto for us in future.

Really impressed, we asked if we could bring the little dog in, that was fine. We had the over 60 special, excellent value and really nice. We shall certainly be back next time we are out on the boat, a perfect spot , lovely friendly staff that made us feel very welcome.

Went for Sunday lunch to my old haunt as I used to run this pub in the late 80s and was well impressed. Generous portions, fabulous apple pie crumble dessert. The pub has gone through a massive transformation and it certainly has paid off.Friendly staff, vibrate modern interior, book yourself in,you will not be disappointed.I will be going back.

Very nice place. Not a huge me u, but the food was excellent. The beef burger tasted freshly made and grill cooked. Highly recommended.

A lovely location on the river. Homely and warm on the inside! Proper homecooked carvery. The beef, roasties and a parsnips were particularly enjoyable! The cauli-cheese was delicious too. Super friendly and efficient staff, running a clean and well maintained inn! Absolutely will be returning. Thanks to all at The Ship!

Quality, don’t be fooled by the exterior this place is a real find, spent the night here in our motorhome and tbh was a little disappointed on arrival, the surrounding area needs a good clear up, but the builders are in so to be expected. Once inside it’s a whole new story, place is immaculate, staff great, food great, good choice of beers etc. will definitely be back.

So glad to see this pub back up and running! Lovely staff, very warm welcome. Food order arrived quickly, good quality and well presented. We had usual pub fare, but made so much nicer when enjoyed at the waters' edge. Highly recommend if you are after somewhere a little closer to nature and you enjoy boats.

Gave this a 5 star due to the best home made steak and ale pie...ever. Great pastry. Plenty of filling. With gravy and fresh veg. Sign needs to be lit up so you can see an entrance. Sunday carvery good too.

An easy 5 stars. A lovely setting on the river, the pub was clean and well presented, we were here for a wedding function, not only was the service very accommodating and polite the carvery food was excellent, based on this we will now return for the Sunday lunch. I would definitely recommend a visit and look forward to trying again, (I will get pics).

Lovely traditional pub, great food and very sensible prices.. mooring right outside was an added bonus especially with a little help from the staff to tie off on a windy day.

Superb lunch there after stopping off earlier today. Impressed with a very friendly and dedicated team. We had the beef pie and by goodness, it was good! The new owner had recently taken over and there’s been a huge investment there apparently, and it looks like it has paid off. Thoroughly recommend The Ship.

Attentive service from their team on a Saturday afternoon. Sensibly priced drinks and delicious food. Clean, comfortable surroundings. Toilets were spotless. Extensive free moorings all the way around the building and easy access to the main entrance if arriving by boat. Had hoped they would have been showing the rugby and/or horse racing. Didn't see any screens but advised that new free WiFi is being installed this week. Dogs are welcome in a dog friendly area of the main bar. Really enjoyed our first visit, and we are certain to return soon.
