Visited here for my husbands birthday lunch and the food was delicious. The beer battered fish was crispy and full of flavour. My husband had a huge burger filled with bacon and cheese which he was very impressed with! We both had chocolate fudge cake with ice cream for dessert and it was perfect. Set in the gorgeous setting of the Surrey Hills this pub is full of history and well worth a visit.

Just stopped by on the way back from a walk in the Surrey hills. Lovely charming little pub with quirky decor and an open fire.. Really good food menu with plenty to choose from, I had a chicken ranch burger and I wasn't disappointed, the size of it!!!! With a huge portion of fries 3x what you would usually get In a pub.. my fella had a pizza and dirty fries and he was equally impressed good portions and tasted excellent. staff nice, polite and informative. Beer was a nice drop, the usual selection you expect from a H&W pub.. Definitely go back, I'd happily recommend it to a group of Hungry hikers.

Nice country pub with large garden (and good views), a little stream running through. Arty decor inside with really good value food. Friendly staff and very dog friendly (our dogs got offered roast beef today). Will be coming back.

Outdoor dining in the terraced hill side garden and takeaway service available. Great stonebaked pizza selection alongside the usual pub favourites with some veggie / vegan options thrown into the mix. Dogs and kids made welcome.

A rare pub truly worthy of the gastro-pub name. The food is simply outstanding. We had an amazing pork platter to share that I'll never forget. Great beer and cider options too, and all very reasonable in a beautiful location. Can't wait to go back.

We had a really nice early evening meal today, 2 pizzas, self-curated and perfectly cooked. The pub is taking all precautions to do with Covid so it feels very safe. The staff are very friendly and the view from the garden is timeless

Had the Sunday roast beef. It was one of the best I've had at any country pub. Spacious and relaxing outdoor seating.

Great pizza and friendly staff. I hadn't been to the volunteer for some years due to the food being fairly poor. But things have definitely changed. Esp the pizza! My favourite is the, nice and spicy 🔥

Enjoyed a quiet lunch here with friends in the plain, comfortable bar area. Lucky to be sitting in front of the open fire for warmth. Some other guests were clearly cold in another part of the bar. Menu good, well cooked and our gluten-free friend was well looked after. I recommend the V as a reliable, easy-going venue.

Traditional pub set in the heart of the countryside with lots of good walking nearby. The food is great, good choice of local beers and the Malbec house wine is exceptional. On one occasion I stopped with a cut on my leg (fell off the bike) and was sitting in the pub garden. A couple of minutes later the landlord appeared with bandages and anti septic spray. I'd call that great service.

The location is lovely and quiet. They cater for vegetarians better than the menu lets on. We went on Sunday and there were at least a couple of vegetarian mains, but no roast. I asked if I could have the veggie burger pattie with all the sides of the beef roast, and they were very happy to do that. Furthermore, they only charged the veggie burger price (I offered to pay the price of the roast) and they even made vegetarian gravy for me. The whole thing was so good. The veg, gravy, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, etc. And the veggie burger... I would not have been disappointed if I had that on its own and I am fairly picky about veggie burgers. Somehow they've made the inside creamy. It seemed to be quinoa and veg on the inside, and then the outside was crispy but without being too crispy, like take-off-the-roof-of-your-mouth hard. Really impressive. My partner had turkey roast, and he said it was very good, and the portion size was generous. It even came with a sausage too. He also enjoyed the ale he had. They are taking Covid precautions and rules around alcohol seriously. I'd read about this in other reviews (the precautions) and really, they are highly diligent from everything I saw. We wanted to sit outside because we're just not comfortable yet sitting inside anywhere. We had hoped to sit on the nice picnic benches on the grass at the back, but with the heavy rain lately, they explained that it's a bit too muddy at the moment. The grass looked pristine though, so I bet when they reopen it, it'll be very nice. Instead we had a choice of several tables around the perimeter of the building. Since the village is so quiet, this actually worked fine (we had been a little nervous about how often cars would be passing by and we needn't have worried). With being the only ones sitting outside, there was a risk that we'd be forgotten about, but everything was prompt and they checked on us regularly. All the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive. (Also, the Ladies loo is directly across from the front door, which is kept open, so I was easily able to use that without feeling like I had to go through a lot of the pub.)

Warm welcoming pub, loved the space put back with picnic benches on the hill, I can imagine having many the drink there ! Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the beer list was a little dull, will definitely go back when I'm I'm the area, great for a walk with the dog !
