We have never had a bad meal here best fish and chips . Very clean place and pleasant staff.
Been a few times never been disappointed always enjoyed the food would recommend this restaurant
Whitby's food is second to none. The fish & chips are to die for. Great service & lovely staff
Excellent fish and chips - best outside of 'WHITBY' and the only place (and it's sister restaurant Whitby's Sheffield) where I would entertain having fish and chips in-land. Always excellent service and the fish is top-notch.
After spending the morning in Doncaster,we were driving around looking for somewhere to have lunch.
We decided to give Whitby’s a try & so pleased we did.
The fish & chips were excellent as were the mushy peas & tartar sauce.
The service was excellent.
We will definitely be going back.
Best place in Doncaster for fish and chips. Quick service. Excellent food.
Best Iv had in a long while. Massive portions really fresh fish and tea that just kept coming.
**Review: Whitby's Fish & Chip Restaurant**
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Whitby's Fish & Chip Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience that's well-deserving of its four-star rating. The establishment is a testament to the traditional British culinary staple of fish and chips, delivering on both taste and quality.
During my visit, I made an unintentional order of whitebait, which to my surprise, came as small fish complete with bones, heads, and tails, meant to be eaten whole. While this was not to my liking—a personal preference rather than a critique of the dish itself—it was an adventure into the broader offerings of traditional British seafood.
The main event, the fish and chips, was where Whitby's truly shined. The fish was perfectly cooked, with a crispy batter encapsulating the succulent and flaky white fish inside. Paired with golden, crispy chips, it was a classic dish executed with excellence. The curry sauce was another highlight, adding a delightful and robust flavor that perfectly complemented the meal.
The ambiance of the restaurant is welcoming, providing a comfortable setting in which to enjoy your meal. It strikes a good balance between a casual dining experience and the quality of food you'd expect from a higher-end establishment.
In summary, Whitby's Fish & Chip Restaurant lives up to its reputation, serving up deliciously traditional fish and chips with commendable quality and flavor. Despite the minor hiccup with my order, the overall experience was enjoyable, making Whitby's a recommended spot for anyone looking to indulge in this classic British fare.
Fantastic old style proper fish and chips. Great service, environment, in a lovely building. We'll definitely be back.
If I could give 4.5 I probably would. Between us the starters were of good size the garlic mushrooms where good. The soup ok but warm in places rather than hot all the way down and the bread roll a little tough. The fish mains were great good size Cod and Plenty of Scampi. The dessert a little underwhelming, they did sat they had ran out of whipped cream but wasn't replaced with anything so for price and size a little below par maybe wrong choice on the day. Staff where great and its a nice friendly, tidy place in a good historical setting.
We visit family twice a year from Plymouth and on both visits we always go to whitby's with my elderly nan. Every time we visit we are not disappointed and leave very full and happy. The staff that delt with us today was very polite friendly and professional. The restaurant is always clean and plates are not left sitting on the table to long after we finished.
To begin with, I was in a group of four adults dining, one of us needed gluten free and one of us had mobility issues, both of these things were not a problem at all. The food is gorgeous and portion sizes are fair. Prices are a little on the expensive side but not too extortionate. The service was a little slower than I'd like, especially as it wasn't particularly busy.
The restaurant itself is very clean, and managed well with front of house team being diligent.
There is a gluten free menu and well, as vegan and vegetarian.
There's plenty of parking space too, and even the outside is kept clean and inviting.
I'd definitely recommend this particular restaurant to everyone.
A very good takeaway & restaurant, one of the best chippys in Doncaster. Fish is freshly cooked to order, chips are always of good quality. The staff are always so amazing, friendly & helpful. Nothing is too much trouble, any problems and they are quick to sort it. Not that we've experienced any issues in the 3yrs we've been using them :-) Our favourite chip shop in Doncaster
Couldn't fault the food, service, restaurant or price. For the first time in a long time it didn't feel like I was being ripped off.
Fish n chips for 3 with 3 pots of tea, bread and butter and mushy peas.. £44.
The fish was excellent and a desent size with plenty of great chips. Lovely restaurant and very, very clean.
If in Doncaster or at the races, pop across the road. They're a must try! I think there is some parking behind the building. Takeaway also available and some daily specials.
Food is excellent. It was just the one member of staff that let our experience down. Was complaining that we were blocking the walkway when standing up to leave. Their own fault for cramming as many tables as they could in there. Would recommend the flour fish batter for those not a fan of traditional batter. It's very light and doesn't leave you feeling tired after having the fish.
Always brilliant but service flakes out totally when it's busy. Get an interesting mix of people in here. From couples who've dressed up for a nice dinner out to people who look like they've rolled out of bed with tracksuits on. Some are moaning about the price. It's a restaurant for God's sake. 😂😂
Great fish and chips. Light batter. Freshly cooked. Traditional Yorkshire food. Lovely. Staff great with the exception of the slim young lad on the desk as you walk in. He needs manners and a lesson in how to speak to customers. His supervisor was great and put him straight. Highly recommend Whitbys for fish and chips and service.
I decided to pop into Whitby's whilst my pax were across the road at the races. The building is a lovely repurpose of the former fire station and as such as plenty of space. I ordered a regular Haddock meal and was suitably impressed when it was placed in front of me. It's the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. If you're in the area I highly recommend popping in for a bite to eat.
I shall certainly be back next time I'm in the area.
Stumbled on this place on the way back from Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Have to say, great food, lovely staff and nice environment. Would definitely return if we’re in the area and would recommend.
Fish and chips were lovely as we expected given the review but the gravy was delicious and a real surprise!
Also, we were informed that everything on the menu is nut free which was a big deal for us 🙏👍
Great fish n chips! We have been here a few times and never had anything to complain about.
One of our party is gluten intolerant and she says the fish and chips are simply the best.
The sticky toffee pudding and custard is a must try for afters
It was good. Service was friendly and efficient.
Food arrived quickly and was good.
The decor wasn't to my liking but nothing wrong with it.
It's very handy if you need cheering up after hospital visit as right next to park and ride
I would go again.
Really good fish and chips.
When you walk in the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, which is conducted through the waiting staff, service with a smile applies here!
The restaurant is immaculately clean and has a open feel. After being offered a choice of seating our orders where taken quickly.
My order was regular Cod and chips, battered sausage and side of home made mushy peas with bread and butter.
The portion size was relatively good value to the price, at £11.95 I was happy with the size of what i got.
The batter on the fish is light and crispy, no excess of grease. The fish itself was a nice white flakey fillet, I have had bigger Cod elsewhere before but not all fish are created equal I guess the size differs from place to "Plaice".
With lashings of salt and vinegar the taste was enhanced but already there.
The chips where nicely golden and fluffy inside.
The mushy peas where standouts here, creamy and savoury with a freshness to them.
So in all a very tasty meal which was thoroughly enjoyable.
I would say the fish could have been chunkier and although not the "BEST" fish and chips I have ever had, it's among the top, moreso certainly among the top locally.
I enjoyed the food and service was top class, will be back.
Thanks.
Finally Doncaster got something to be proud of it. One of the places in UK you really can be amazed. Super 👌
My favourite fish and chips in Doncaster. Large portions of freshly battered fish- Haddock is beautiful. Staff are pleasant and attentive. No need to book unless large table. I went in on a saturday night and was lovely and quiet. Puddings are divine too if you have room for them- highly recommend the homemade apple crumble and custard. Cannot be beaten.
I have given a 4 based on my whole experience. The food was delicious, you don't get loads of chips with haddock and chips, but it was enough for me. The service however I found mixed. I walked in and waited to be seated, 2 of the team were at the bar and no-one acknowledged me, then Lewis came over, who stood out as a fantastic team member. He was polite and friendly and took our order. The woman who delivered our drinks virtually threw them on the table, and the person who delivered the food wasn't friendly and again just plonked everything down. However, Lewis was customer service personified, you need more people like him.
