This was our first time eating here - indeed this restaurant has only been open for about three months - and we will certainly be back.
We visited on a quiet Wednesday night and although the place wasn't busy, the service was top notch throughout.
We started with a prawn dish and seafood chowder. The chowder in particular was hugely impressive. This was packed with meaty hunks of fish and even a handful of mussels in a thick creamy sauce with bacon pieces to cut through the cream. Honestly it would have been plenty for a hearty lunch, never mind a starter.
For main courses we had the battered haddock - with a tasty and light batter and perfectly cooked chips - and a Red Thai curry with seafood. The curry was perfectly cooked with ample fish again - and this time the addition of monkfish. The same dish can be delivered in vegan or chicken versions and doubtless would be delicious in any variant.
This restaurant is a great addition to Donaghadee and hopefully will do well. They offer a dog friendly experience, kids eat free on certain nights and they have a tempting steak night on Tuesdays which we may have to sample....
Service was friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic - from an owner who clearly takes pride in what she is helping to create. The other patrons all seemed equally happy and relaxed - clearly enjoying their menu choices as much as we enjoyed ours.
Update - we have been back to The Lighthouse several times in the last few months and the standards remain extremely high. We have yet to have anything other than an excellent meal with superb service.
Give it a try - you won't regret it!
we absolutely loved our trip to the lighthouse bar and grill!! the food was delicious, my partner and I cannot wait to come back and try more of your menu. The staff were so friendly and lovely and took really good care of us and our little dog who really enjoyed her trip to the lighthouse too and the sausages she was gifted! thank you so much again
Superb meal, booked and glad we did. Mussels starter was delicious, main of Surf and Turf was beautifully cooked, friends had the excellent scampi. Looks onto the beautiful Donaghadee Harbour.
Fantastic food and lovely staff. Highly recommended.
Pleasant experience. Friendly staff. Very accommodating. Fantastic food!!
We first tried here 3 years ago because we heard it was dog friendly, we went for lunch and liked it so much we booked for dinner the next night before we left. We have gone back many, many times since then and are never disappointed. The food is delicious, the ambiance relaxing and the staff friendly and helpful. And our little dog loves it too. Simply excellent!
Outstanding. Donaghadee has a reason for me to go there again. The food is just great. They've got all the classics... surf and turf... beef and bird,... scampi... rib eye steak... fish and chips... But the care taken over the preparation, and the flavours they gift you are not easy to do justice in a quick review. They have some little gems for starters too, like the seafood chowder and the roasted cauliflower barbecue bites (don't just take my word for that one, try it, you'll leave your own review!). Thanks for a great night Jamie, we'll see you again soon! Desserts next time.
My husband and myself were treated by our daughter and son-in-law. The service was quick and the staff were more than helpful very friendly and attentive. Food was outstanding. My only criticism would be the dogs. As a dog owners ourselves we would not permit our dogs to sit at the dining table and find it very of putting in a restaurant. Guide dogs and assistance dogs yes but all dogs on the floor would be much more hygienic.
Cosy atmosphere, lovely staff and very tasty food. Had the Sunday Roast, Beef with all the trimmings. Would have liked a Yorkshire Pud is my only criticism. Dog friendly which is wonderful. Water is brought for your pooch and a snack plate (corned beef in our case) was offered and joyously accepted. Well done Lighthouse.
We have eaten here twice now and not been disappointed either time. They allowed my elderly mum to have the children's menu choices which was really good of them as she couldn't manage a large meal. Service was great, food hot and tasty. It can get busy so to avoid disappointment best to book your table (check their opening hours as I couldn't get through before 12.30 to book once)
