Had a table at the restaurant last night with my partner. We were so impressed with the whole meal, service, atmosphere and environment. The onion soup starter was the best and the flavour was amazing! Would recommend ordering that!! The whole meal was gorgeous though and everything was cooked to perfection. We had the goats curd and onion soup starter, then the beef and duck main which the whole dish of quality flavours and presentation was absolute outstanding. The service received was outstanding and even the smallest of detail was taken care of. We really enjoyed our night and would definitely recommend. Can't wait to come back, thank you very much!

Great Lunch today. Creamy wild mushrooms on sourdough, smoked mackerel with pickled veggies. Mains were Hake, little gem, new potatoes and Pork chop with pan fried veg and delicious chips. Very tasty food, beautifully presented -- good value at £14.50 for the two courses. Very good service. Wine entry level at £15.95 for a decent Pinot Grigio or by the glass etc. If you are not a local it's actually behind the Star pub in Station Road, plenty of parking. Highly recommend - give it a go you won't be disappointed!!

This restaurant having only been open for four months definitely lived up to its reputation. The food was delectable and exquisite. The chef presented it like it was a piece of art so not only did it look fantastic it tasted equally as good. The portion sizes were ample and service very friendly and welcoming. They couldn't do enough. A definate must for foodies.

We had the most fantastic lunch at The Humble Onion today. We had a warm welcome and the service was excellent throughout - attentive without being imposing. The food was truly exceptional; all cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The onion soup is a must try and was followed by melt in the mouth lamb and beef mains. Pud was the best Panacotta I think I have ever had! And when the bill came, it was extremely reasonable for the quality of food and service. We will definitely be returning and will be telling all our friends and family to try out this little gem too.

Our first visit to this beautiful little place, tucked away behind the Star Inn in Dinas Powys. Impeccable service and surroundings and food to die for! Generous portions of starters and mains. For mains, Rachel, my wife, had the Gnocchi in creamy mushroom sauce and I plumbed for the Belly pork with pomme purée, butter beans and chorizo. All was cooked to perfection! Definitely coming back soon!

Been trying to get in to this very popular restaurant for a couple of months - finally made it today and was well worth the wait! Excellent food which demonstrated great knowledge of flavour combinations and a very capable chef, supported by very attentive service. Can't wait to return on a regular basis - already booked again before paying the bill today! Highly recommend!

What a way to wrap up the most perfect wedding weekend. A special Sunday lunch at thehumbleonion with good friends. 100% the best Sunday lunch I've ever had. Stunning crispy hens egg to start, followed by a Fillet steak dinner that just melts in your mouth. So lush I could cry

We are from Australia, and had a great night dining with family we were visiting. The past two weeks we have been to Rome & Paris, and The Humble Onion topped all eateries we had eaten at. Superb food, well presented and great friendly service.

First visit under new ownership. Food was excellent, well constructed, very interesting flavours without being pretentious. Waiting staff were lovely and attentive, but not overbearing, and very friendly. Smoked duck starter very flavoursome, then the lamb was exquisite cooked to pink perfection with crushed potatoes and garlic, (my husband eyed enviously and wished he'd chosen the same), squeezed in choc brownie at end. In hindsight the panacotta may have been a lighter choice as could barely walk home! Only slight query as supporting local produce etc is why the sparkling water is Italian, there must be Welsh sparkling water available ? Will definitely be back.

Absolutely love this place. Have visited multiple times and it is our go to if we want comforting but high quality food. The staff are always friendly, and the food is probably the highest quality I've had in Cardiff.

What a lovely little place tucked away in Dinas Powys. We arrived at 19:00 and there were only two tables taken. By 20:30 they were all full. There was one walk in but other than that I would suggest you book to save disappointment. The food was delicious and well worth a visit.

Superb meal dining outdoors as Paco (small plates menu) Food was great, we also had a couple of bottles of red wine that we really enjoyed. Loved the little courtyard and we managed to keep dry and warm with blankets being offered. Service was really friendly and professional.

This is a lovely place! We enjoyed their Sunday menu of two courses for £18.50. Only around five options per course but a good range. Both courses were very rich so great for a treat.

Extra treat to lunch here after long 3rd lockdown. We sat out in the pretty south facing courtyard on a sunny afternoon with wisteria in flower and as a canopy a low hanging weeping birch. Small plates options together with focaccia and chips. Our favourites were the scallops then the scorched sprouting broccoli and sriracha mayo side. Bill for 2 added up to what to us is a special treat and it really was. Helped by a friendly and skilled young waiter.

Lovely little restaurant, with a nice atmosphere and a good wine list. The service was excellent with fabulous attention to detail. The food was delicious, I had the egg starter and the beef for my main. Too full for pudding this time but they looked and smelt amazing. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Went for a Sunday lunch, if I could give 6 stars I would. Everything was perfect, the setting, the atmosphere, the service, the wine and of course the food. There was a warm welcome when we arrived where we were led into a cozy restaurant with a very relaxed atmosphere. Our server was extremely friendly and a delight. I had the chicken thigh with a peanut butter sauce to start and I can confidently say it was one of the best starters I have ever had. Perfectly cooked and all the flavours just worked together. Main, I had the beef which was extremely tender and flavourful and the gravy was to die for. The greens were delicious and the roast potatoes incredible. Thank you for a lovely afternoon!

Food and welcome absolutely lovely but it was absolutely freezing in the restaurant which did spoil it a little. Also, hard to find so better signage could be helpful. We had the mushrooms to start and Beef as mains and it was delicious. The gentleman serving us was lovely so we would definitely go again but maybe dress warmer and go in a warmer season.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better Sunday Lunch than that of The Humble Onion. It is absolutely outstanding and the “Mothers Gravy” is what makes the dinner extra special. Evening Menu is also top quality and the Salted Caramel Panna cotta is the perfect dessert to finish on. Small, intimate restaurant with a little courtyard which is lovely on a summers day. Service is excellent and staff are always friendly. Would also recommend trying their other restaurant “Alium” down in Barry.

Outstanding ***** Excellent quality food and drink, with equally great and friendly staff. It's a once a month destination for us (as the menu changes every month)
