The roast beef is wonderfully unique. Its evident that all the various elements of the meal had been carefully placed on the plate, cooked to perfection, and all very tasty. We had a reasonably priced bottle of red and felt very contented. A great venue, recently refurbished to a high standard, worth some of your time.

Simply could not have been better! What a little gem of a restaurant to come across! We were looking for a half way meeting spot for lunch and came across Olivier at The Chequers. Everything from the service, food, portion size, wine was wonderful. Staff were extremely attentive and welcoming, nothing was too much of an ask. We had 3 courses all were perfectly put together, with flavour and texture and as mentioned the portion size was spot on as we came away full after the 3 courses but wast a push! We have been lucky enough to eat at some fantastic restaurants but this is definitely up there with some of the best food and wine also. Not badly priced for what you get! Thank you, we hope to be back soon!

First time since the refurbishment. Beautiful space and garden. The food was amazing as always. Great wine list, love that it highlights which wine is organic, biodynamic or raw!

Four of us went for a wonderful meal one Friday eve. The menu is varied and original - nothing too fancy but some really creative dishes - the tuna tartare was really quite special, the lentil & beetroot salad was divine and the woodcock was beautifully prepared and something I’ve never had before. We all agreed the sauces were amazing!! For this level of food the prices are quite reasonable - I had a meal in London the day before which cost more and was far less inspired. My only criticism is it is quite loud when busy - just needs something to deaden the way voices carry - if you were hard of hearing you might struggle. Apart from that a great experience and we’ll be coming back.

With the transformation of the old Chequers Inn and the long wished for return of Olivier as Chef Patron, the pub is now a truly lovely experience. The food is tremendous. It’s not cheap as this is gastro’ food and the service is great. The decor and changes that have been made have brought the drab old bar/restaurant area into the 21 century whilst retaining the history and charm. Great job all round.
