My first time in Derby and I stumbled across this wee gem. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, amazing food. Highly recommended!
Managed to get a walk-in table without a reservation for the two of us just after 5:30 midweek. A great reception from the waitress who was really helpful.
A broad menu featuring some well known African dishes and some African-inspired UK dishes too.
The smells of fresh spices from the kitchen convinced us to go with the chefs specials and we weren't disappointed. Freshly prepared food - a Jambalaya and a slow-cooked lamb casserole served in a hollowed-out loaf of African bread! Huge portions bursting with flavours, spices and magnificent aromas.
The food arrived reasonably quickly and was more than enough to feed an adult. We got a main and a drink for under £20 each.
Great value.
Great menu.
Great atmosphere.
Amazing food...
Definitely going back 👍
Ordered a takeaway from here, the food was delicious, some amazing flavours and really good portion sizes. Can recommend the sharing platters!
Called the restaurant as originally had issues ordering through the website. Friendly staff helped us out.
Absolutely amazing service, atmosphere and food.
If we lived closer, we'd be here every week. Three little birds should be called three big birds. Incredible value for money. We were so full that we couldn't manage pudding, so we l bought the honey cheesecake and the brownie (with custard 😚👌) to take away... oh my goodness! best idea ever!
Thank you so much to the host and the chef. Highly recommended 🤤
Brilliant food and brilliant customer service . Beautiful food . I drove from Birmingham to derby and had an amazing time . Wonderful staff would defo go back
Just straight flavour! Never disappoints. 10/10 service; I don’t even like prawns, but they make it banging!
Absolutely, in love with jollof rice. Tried them for the first time ever, and the spice level was above expectations and rice so flavorful. Everything was served hot and to the point delicious. Comfortable sitting. Nice and welcoming staff. Would definitely recommend it.
If suggestions are welcome, then the songs should be played at a lower decibel. Music was deafening.
What a great place to eat our dinner at and near a great street location opposite the Cathedral. Lovely vibe, decor and atmosphere in restaurant. The menu was great with a good variety of choice and options. The customer service and staff were very friendly and polite. Starters and drinks came very quickly, hot, fresh and really tasty. The starter portion were very generous. Main came again in good time, look very presentable, fresh, hot and tasty. The YREN team members really enjoyed their dinner. We ordered hot drinks afterwards. Staff did not rush us and we felt relaxed while eating at our own pace.
Fantastic food, spiced just right. Friendly staff and great service. I don't like mango or passion fruit, however the mango & passion fruit cheesecake is to die for, light and smooth. Will make it my go to place to eat when I'm working in Derby (looking forward to next Monday). Thank you. Big David
Visited this place while staying in Derby. Food was awesome, I got the half chicken in Afrikana flavour, it was the best I've had in a long time and dare I say it better than Nandos. Kids got some burgers and loved it too. I even asked for some Afrikana sauce tubs to bring home. Spoke to the owner who was very friendly and welcoming too. Great place. Will defo be visiting this place every time I am in Derby. Keep up the fresh amazing food guys.
Wonderful food. Got the goat curry, bean burger, mac n cheese, jollof rice, and beef pastry, all were absolutely delicious. Since we don't have African food often, we all wanted to try a bit of each and the server was very accommodating by giving us extra plates when asked so that we could each take from all the different dishes, and they also gave us a food container when we asked if we could take the leftovers home. The atmosphere is also great, I loved the music and the murals on the walls.
I went for a quick bite Friday night and it was so good. I had the fish bun, okra fries (last fingers) and a fanta. It was so delicious and the service was really friendly and quick. I will go back any opportunity I get. Yum yum yum
Really tasty vegetarian food 🍔 🍟 also rather filling.
Ordered 'got my back' main meal. it was full of flavour and the mutton was tender. Rice full of flavour as well. Loved it. Will definitely be back again.
Best lemonade so far in Uk.
Fresh produce used to mark food extra delicious
I came here for the first time on a Saturday night with friends. We had pre-booked a table through the website, which I'd recommend to avoid disappointment!
I really, really enjoyed my meal! The goat meat I had was cooked so well it was falling off the bone!
We ordered a sharing platter also which came with a nice selection of meat and veggie options.
This restaurant doesn't serve alcohol but allows you to bring in your own while dining.
In short a really good experience with great food, and helpful staff.
Absolutely fantastic experience.
I travelled around 20 miles to try Afrikaana with my wife and we were both blown away with the service.
The food arrived very fast and was pipping hot just how it should be.
The sauces they have available are amazing also the Jerk sauce was my favourite with the spicy mayo.
The afrikaana chips were good with the coated spices on them.
The lamb chops and grilled chicken were cooked to perfection..
I will definitely be coming back next week again!
We had a lovely lunch here today.
We had the sharing platter and extra jollof rice. The hummus was the best I’ve ever had.
The choice of sauces was a pleasant surprise too. THE AFRIKANA, and the mixed peri were my favourite.
The staff are wonderful and very friendly and helpful. A member even came outside to ask if I wanted to see a menu as I was struggling to see the one outside as it was to high up for me to see while sit in my wheelchair.
We’ll definitely be back.
Thank you.
