Had my better halfs 30th party here and it was excellent. Booked out the function room and roof terrace and the staff not only kept all of the roof terrace furniture miraculously dry during a full on down pour but also put up a mini gazebo so the guests could still enjoy it! Had the sandwich platter which was all very well received. Also the staff were fantastic especially the guys who tended bar on the night. Couldn't do enough for everyone there. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
We hired the function room and roof terrace for our wedding celebrations and couldn't have been happier with our choice. From booking the room, to the date of the event, there has been fantastic communication, an excellent choice of menus at such reasonable prices with staff very attentative to detail. Cannot recommend enough, would definitely hire again. Thank you for looking after us, very much appreciated!
Absolutely beautiful pub, food is great and the beer selection is incredible! Never seen anything like it! Will 100% be back again.. also they do takeout beer, we stocked up our fridge at home!!

Asboutley lovely place, great food with a different, amazing cocktails with a twist, very friendly staff.
Great beer , great food, great staff!! Hat trick !!
Great service, great food, great atmosphere... always lovely to visit! Would be nice to have a high chair available for the baby who we bring along too, though (just a suggestion). :)
Always love the food here, Good quality but pleeeease bring the Cajun Chicken burger back !! It was my favourite by far
Friendly staff really add to the great atmosphere here. This coupled with their knowledge of the vast selection of beers makes for a wonderful drinking experience.
Takeout beers meant for a well stocked fridge through the winter too.
This is an essential port of call.
Great beer. Great food. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely pub with helpful and friendly staff. Food is reasonably priced and plenty to choose from the menu. Special offers apply on certain days. We had Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Plenty of seating and can book in advance. Also have an app where you can collect loyalty stamps. Dog friendly too.
Atmosphere great music choice was also fun. I have the burger was good the burger patty itself was a little bit dry I think it had been left under the grill a little bit too long to melt the cheese but overall was good fries for great and seasoned well.
My wife have the chilli fries great portion size lots of flavor.
I would highly recommend the Greyhound there is a lot of things on the menu I'm looking forward to trying and also the value was excellent.
Nice beers, nice food but we tried to order online then 20 mins later it told me it didn't go through so had to order at the bar.
Smoking area and roof top, really nice place.

Update February 2023: Nothing much has changed, this time I ate there. Had the the burger with pulled beef with triple-cooked fries. It was very good, which adds to my recommendation. The number of cask ales is solid: 4 handpumps on the front bar 3 to the back (Different ones, apparently), all well kept. Staff was very nice, too.
Original review:
Excellent real ale pub on Friar Gate: Fine selection of non-standard hand pumped ales, all well kept. Recommended: Dashingly Dark from the Derby Brewing Company. Friendly staff, great community atmosphere, not too loud. Quite comfy, too. Kept in great shape. Definitely worth a look for a Derby pub crawl, even if it's a short walk from the city centre.
We went for fathers day, I booked for 3.30pm for 8 of us and the food was wonderful however we was told whilst eating our main that we couldn't have puddings which let it down slightly. Stuart the barman was very attentive and friendly. Will be back again , hopefully we will get a chance to order puddings next time.
Kind of on the fringes of the city, but still easy to find as it's on the main road.
A bit of a hidden gem, the outside looks fairly modern but quite small.
However is actually fairly large with possibly one of the best beer gardens in the city.
The garden is all season with a retractable roof, lighting and decent heating, it's basically another indoor room during the winter.
However when the suns out it's a proper sun trap.
The drinks available are all the usual suspects plus DBC real ales, DBC crafted on keg and a decent range of craft cans and bottles from UK, European and American breweries.
It's not as all encompassing as Suds & Soda or The Furnace but it's a solid effort and far better than most pubs in Derby.
The food is excellent with an emphasis on burgers and smoked/BBQ stuff, the dirty fries are excellent, but be warned that the firecracker chicken ones will make you sweat.
The atmosphere is casual and relaxed with a broad age range of customers and a mix of individuals, couples, small groups and larger parties.
Worth the walk from the city centre.
First time we've been for lunch, had the Derbyshire brisket which was delicious. Very dog friendly with good selection of ciders. Will be back 🙂
A pleasant, quirky, dog friendly pub with various seating areas inside and out. The brisket is really good and there was a fair selection of drinks.
Only knocked off a star because the bar service was slow and staff were only focusing on one area through a little walkway.
A great find! We were a bit apprehensive at the start going in... But they have an amazing selection of locally brewed beers and good food!
Slightly on the pricy side, but to be expected from a city centre pub.
Will definitely be visiting again.
I can't fault the staff or the food a great pub. I didn't think early 2000 US teen indy music is my taste and perhaps they'll play something else next time I go. Will definitely return.
We've been here today for a slot of lunch. Absolutely amazing service and the food was absolutely delicious we both went for the special Good ol' boys Americana burger. Highly recommend
Very nice , real ale . Very friendly. We didn't have food ,but lots of people seem to be enjoying their meals
Still an awesome pub, with history and great ales even if it is getting a little dated.
Had a nice meal here tonight with friends. Friendly service. Food took a while to come out, however that was acknowledged and the place was busy so I'm fine with that. Very professionally dealt with.
Quality of the food was lovely. Brisket was fantastic. Highly recommended.
Great choice of Beers,Derby Brewery comfortable areas
Visited at the weekend with some friends and family. We were all very impressed with the choice of vegan food. The food was nice, the beer was great and it was a good atmosphere. We will certainly visit again.
The choice of food and quality are amazing. Very good value for money. One of the best summer drinking pubs in Derby. atmosphere in the garden is one of the best Well done

Been meaning to go for years and finally went for my birthday. I tried the venison burger which was odd but very nice. I gave it four stars as it is just my opinion that it wasn't as cosy of a pub as I expected.
