It has good vegetarian options. I feel that they should avoid using ketchup with their fritter. This makes the dish too sweet. Chips were cold and I could see it was on the counter for about 10 minutes to be picked up by the waiter.
Visited here for a coffee and some breakfast. Been here a couple of times one being a late night drink as the cafe does turn into a bar at night. I had the Full House Breakfast with a Salted caramel latte whilst my partner had Bacon Maple Pancakes. Really enjoyed mine but did have some little negatives to it, one being that the sausages were more of a chipolata feel to them and you would expect ‘butcher’ sausages to be quite large and filling etc and the final critique was that the breakfast was served in a bowl, which looks great but practicality wise I had to move stuff out the way whilst eating the food, a plate would of been much better! Other than that really enjoyed our visit!
We were looking for a nice coffee shop for breakfast while working. We ended up with Bear around the cathedral quarter. It was the good option that we were happy about it at the end.
Reasonably priced coffee, breakfast and snacks, staff were friendly and the service time was good. Tastes were good, liked Lattes and pouched eggs.
Also, the internet speed was great, didn’t have any problems.
Nice interior design and clean toilets.
Great location, excellent service and nice ambience. Menu is extensive and plentiful. Best coffee in Derby and the price are pretty reasonable. One issue they do have they could improve is the front of house as the 3 occasions we went in we found them very abrupt and unhelpful. Once in and seated, it's highly recommended, especially for the breakfast options.
Lovely place- relaxed with a nice buzz about the place. Good coffee. Great veggie breakfast- perfect poached eggs!
The food was amazing
I wish they had a different bread though
They only have sourdough bread
Tasty food & friendly staff! Dan was especially fab & really helpful! The place itself is really chilled with a great vibe. Thank you for a great visit & I’ll definitely be back ☺️
First time visiting this branch. We arrived at 4 to enjoy the "Later at Bear" menu. When booking I said we were going with my parents, the table we had reserved was on bar stools and right next to a speaker, we asked to move which was no problem for them and even though we were a bit away from the speaker it was just too loud. We were all shouting to each other over the table which wasn't enjoyable, two of us felt headaches coming on afterwards, it just ruined it a bit.
I think it's fine to have music on but the volume it was should be 7 onwards perhaps, not even clubs are open when we were out, so yes it wasn't the relaxing experience we expected.
It took around half an hour for someone to come to our table to take food order, everything arrived correctly as we had finished eating by 5.15 so quite fast service and it was hot.
Food was very nice so would return for that if the volume was down. A few vegetarian options which was great, highly recommend the Halloumi burger (Hallouminati)
Toilets were ok, no hot water in women's though.
I imagine this place is very nice for breakfast and to work on a laptop so will try it again at a different time of day.
We have just come home after having a family birthday brunch and absolutely loved it! The food and drinks were great but what really made it was the exceptional customer service! Our waitress was great, really friendly, polite and attentive; nothing was too much to ask despite intolerances, crying baby etc and she really looked after us. The real asset is the manager - what a great guy! He even offered to feed my baby whilst I ate my hot meal and spent time with the family, I was genuinely in shock!! Thank you 🙏🏼 You guys are legends so keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll be back!
BEAR is the best cafe I’ve come across in the region.
The coffees are always expertly prepared and responsibly sourced, the V60 and Brew Board coming with a card describing the origin of the coffee beans used.
The food options are creative and consistently delicious.
All of that served in a stylish interior and comfortable atmosphere.
Came here for brunch after a friend's wedding and loved it. Food and drinks were really tasty, the staff were all friendly and we liked the vibe too. Would recommend!
Also definitely get the tater tots.
Nice little place to sit. The breakfast was quite nice. Different flavours. However i do think it was a little overpriced for what it was and I do spend the extra pounds on food normally. I liked the waffle idea so have made it many times at home. I think i would come back again however there wasnt much vegetarian option as I'd hope.
I can't stop thinking about the breakfast and its probably the best coffee I've ever had. Love it.
Over the past two days we have visited here twice for food & drinks.
On Friday we visited for there signature pancakes, have fruit x10 stack & bacon with maple syrup x10 stack. There was that much we had to take some home. The only criticism I would say is that unfortunately they were out of packet, & not cooked from scratch.
On Saturday evening we visited again, but this time as a table of 7, for my birthday. This time round I went for the La Fondue Burger with standard House Seasoned Fries. Presentation & taste was spot on, however the burger was over cooked for my liking. All other guests gave good feedback.
On a different note, the cocktail menu has good selection to chose from, my personal favourite being the espresso martini.
Thoroughly enjoyed going to BEAR today. Cosy but laid back atmosphere with really nice staff who are very attentive. There is table service also.
The menu is quite large and you can add many items to your meal which is nice. Vegetarian and Vegan options available. The coffee is very nice as was the food and will definitely be heading back soon!
I saw an extremely kind gesture from one of the staff where an old woman said that the cake she had just eaten was very nice, it was her birthday so the staff member went and got her another slice to take home. It's the little things that I found make this restaurant nice.
Also they have pretty cool latte art ;)
Lovely place. We did a coffee tasting experience. It was excellent. Fully recommend it with a group of friends. Louise taught us about the origins of the coffee, process, tastes, aromas and smells. We tasted 4 different coffees and has some samples of chocolate, nuts and fruit on the table. It is an excellent service.
Afterwards we had brunch and drinks.
The bar is clean, friendly and has a warm atmosphere.
If you are looking for a cool place to hang out for coffee, meet friend, host a meeting or eat out I would strongly recommend this place.
Parking at chapel street car park or st.michaels church would be your nearest and best option
walking straight into derby city centre after is also convenient.
