Reviews The Black Horse Densole

Dark during the day, but a nice environment after dark. Frequented by locals, people stopping for a beer after work on the way home and people staying at the campsite across the road. The outside space is a bit grim with a few benches next to a busy road and the large, featureless pub carpark. The selection of beers is a bit limited, no real session bitter, but Laine and Doombar are acceptable alternatives. We returned in the evening for dinner and had classic burgers which were very good. Joshua who served us was very good and the young people behind the bar were also friendly. We reserved a table for dinner which was a good move as they obviously manage the work load in the kitchen. We arrived a little early, but were not given our menus until our reservation time which makes a lot of sense. The buyers came with home made coleslaw and nice fries, the burgers were served medium rare which meant they weren't dried out or chewy. A soft close door mechanism on the front door to the pub would improve things as the constant slamming of the door is wearing. We will return to eat if we're in the area.

Super local pub with really friendly staff and locals. This was our second visit - we use the Black Horse touring site opposite as an overnight stay before an early tunnel crossing to France. Always glad of the excellent food on offer. In a strange twist of fate, our two visits have coincided with both the death of HM The Queen Elizabeth and the coronation of HM King Charles!

What a gem. I didn't want to leave to good a review as the secret would be out. The decent pint of Guinness, dinner is simple but perfectly cooked. The atmosphere is really friendly and the staff just top it off, really nice people both sides of the bar.

The food is fabulous. I had the burger, my wife had the ploughman’s. The presentation was first class and everything was so obviously home made. Can’t knock it at all. The bar staff are very friendly and attentive going over and above to make our lunch an enjoyable experience. We’ll definitely be coming back.

Stopped off after an evening walk for a pint and hoping for food. It was Friday 'takeaway night'. The dog was made most welcome. We ordered a takeaway from the local Indian restaurant who delivered to the pub within 30 minutes. What a great idea and resultant vibe. Meanwhile, we drank a super pint of Doombar. The bar staff, Maise, was excellent- nothing was too much trouble for her. The landlady was friendly and advised us about a dog walk tomorrow. We thought,'What a great pub this is'.

Stopped off here for a quick drink in the bear garden. Staff are friendly and helpful. So are a couple of locals who were trying to help me with something I was looking for. But I found when i left. Beautiful pub dog and wished we had known about this pub earlier as the roasts looked Fantastic. Will definitely book soon

The staff in this pub are the best - so friendly and so helpful. We were staying at the nearby campsite and the pub was fully booked for meals but they let us order a takeaway and eat it there (although the pub food looked so good we'd rather have had that) And there is also a very lovely pub dog - Keira Just go and check it out for yourself - you won't be disappointed.

I didn’t personally eat but the food looked wonderful and our friends who did said the food was great. We visited this pub pre-covid and have to say it was poor……..However, it is under new management and it is so much nicer than our previous visit. It is beautifully presented with tables/comfy chairs, inviting settees and lovely soft furnishings. The atmosphere was very relaxing and all bar staff were so helpful, pleasant and friendly. We will definitely return and eat here next time we’re in the area.

Been all around the area trying, unsuccessfully, to get a decent Sunday roast. It's a tough thing to deliver when you're cooking for more than one family. Not had a huge success at any of the other places so thought we'd try this place. First time in years that I've felt like I was in a traditional local, with a lovely mix of people, dogs, background chatter and the wonderful smell of a log fire ( already planning to do a full Sunday and grab a couple of hours in front of the fire before lunch). It brought back memories of old fashioned country pubs from my childhood (I'm 52, so it's been a while). Roast was excellent, with homemade Yorkshire puds, decent veg (not mushy) and a lovely Cauliflower Cheese to boot. Finished off with a lovely Bailey's chocolate tart. Also had a pint of Doombar, and you can taste that they clearly take care of their pipes. All in all, very good value, matched only by the warmth of the staff. Can't praise Nicky enough as she has such a lovely way about her, and was simply the final piece of the puzzle that so many pubs and restaurants aspire to, yet so rarely achieve. We will be back. UPDATE we have been back a number of times. Still delivers a great roast in a nice atmosphere. Staff are always lovely too.

Mum and I called in here after a visit to the nearby crem. The staff and other clientele were so friendly, and the service was first class. The landlady couldn’t do enough for us, and when asked told us a little about the pubs history. We ordered a pork roast dinner and wow! It was just like a home cooked Sunday roast, including crackling and apple sauce; we were stuffed so didn’t even look at the dessert menu, so can’t comment on those, great value too; a baked Camembert starter, 2 roast pork dinners, an Irish coffee and tip came to £50. If we’re in the area again we’ll definitely go back; highly recommended. Thank you Black Horse staff 😊 Oh, and forgot to add, also dog friendly, if you’ve got your pooch with you

This is the second time we have eaten in the Black Horse Inn. We only visit when parked at the caravan park just across the road. Michelle and her team are very friendly, we had the Sunday Roast, not disappointed, it was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much
