Chequers Restaurant is located in a former pub near the Royal Cinque Golf Course. The pub has been turned into a rather lovely Restaurant and Cookery school. We first spotted it while walking from Sandwich to Deal. Our original intention was to time our walk so we could have lunch in Deal. However with at least an 1 hour or so left to walk to Deal we started to spot the signs for Chequers – 1 mile away, then 1/2 mile away. So we thought we would check it out. Wow, what a treat for a couple of foodies to find in the middle of nowhere, it was like spotting an Oasis in the Desert. We have popped in for lunch a couple of times now and its always been a delight. Lots of locally sourced food influenced by Chef Pieter van Zyl’s South African background. On our last visit we ordered 3 small dishes to share. Beautiful Tempura prawns with Chef Pieter’s sweet chilli sauce (I keep ordering them when I visit because they are so good), Spanish Omelette and really tasty Cape Malay pickled fish along
Steph deserves nothing else but 5 stars! She is easy going, nothing is much of a problem. Steph’s kitchen is beautiful, nicely organized and pleasure to cook in! There is a beautiful beach nearby. We always enjoy our cooking experience and day out in Deal.
A pizza-making evening at The Chequers cookery school proved the perfect way to celebrate a friend's birthday. Most of us did not know one another and the making, cooking and eating gave us lots to talk and laugh about! And the Chequers team looked after us beautifully. It's the ideal way to bring together friends and family, and also a fun idea for a team-building or customer event.
I had a voucher given to me for my birthday and I chose a 3 hour course entitled winter warmers. We made 4 dishes all very flavoursome and with good instruction in a relaxed setting. It was easy to ask questions and lots of cooking tips given. Would definitely recommend.
2nd time I've been on a course here and again had a good time. Relaxed atmosphere and came home with some lovely food. Was nervous about making pasta for the first time, but Pieter is a great teacher. Will definitely be rebooking sometime in the future.
Megan had a great day today learning how to cook cauliflower pasta puttanesca, focaccia and tiramisu. Pieter was a great host and a great teacher. Megan is looking forward to practising her new recipes and enjoying the food all over again. Thanks again for a fun and enjoyable experience.

Attended a family cookery course with my eleven year old niece. A very relaxed and friendly course and came home with amazing food. Highly recommended.
Went for a sushi making course, really good instructions, think we'll be eating solid for the next 24 hours.
Just outstanding. Fantastic venue and professionally run cookery school. For beginners, advanced, team building etc. It's great here. What a find. G
