Came here for Mother’s Day lunch with my partner her daughter and her mother, it was a last minute booking and they were very accommodating, upon arrival the room was tidy & well presented we were shown our table, the smell of food drifted throughout the building, the service was great and I can honestly say it was the best roast I’ve ever had, the meat was succulent and tender amd cooked to perfection and full of flavour, the veg was fresh and the gravy was second to none, finally the desserts were outstanding, we were even given a jar of the head chefs family recipe curry sauce as a token Would definitely recommend to anybody “If carlsberg did roasts......”

We’d booked a table for our Mum’s 90th Birthday and then ..... the snow arrived! I have to say the staff were wonderful, a couple of items were understandably off the menu as Dartmouth was cut off for a couple of days. They kindly sourced some flowers locally as the florist couldn’t get to town, and we had a fabulous meal.

The best tasting Sunday lunch I have had in a very long time! The beef was perfectly cooked and potatoes were delicious. To be fair we had to wait about 40 minutes as they were very busy but the food was worth it.

Fabulous weekend with the family. This hotel never fails to provide us with a first class break. It's traditional mixed in with a little bit of luxury in the best possible location. The staff, as always, could not have done more to ensure we had a wonderful stay.

We have just spend the best few days celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary at the Royal Castle. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were treated like Royalty. A special mention to Chloe who helped my husband organise the flowers, champange and card for the room ready for when we arrived. Also we would recommend the picnic boat for that special occasion. 💗💗💗

Thank you so much for making my Mum feel just that little bit extra special during our two-night visit with you this week. I brought her down to Dartmouth for a couple of days to celebrate her 80th birthday and she had the most amazing time. Her first time at Dartmouth and I wanted her to experience what a special place it is. Your lovely hotel did not disappoint with amazing and friendly service and delicious Sunday roast and amazing breakfasts. I cannot fault the hotel at all. Our room was spotlessly clean. It is a beautiful 500-year-old building and overlooking the river at first light and last thing before dark was just so special and something I know will be a memory my Mum will treasure. And we saw the resident seal! I would highly recommend staying here and I will certainly be staying here again one day soon. We love Dartmouth. Thank you! x

We visited this pub for lunch yesterday, and it was an absolute delight! The cosy atmosphere, attentive staff, and inviting ambience made for a perfect meal. The drink selection was impressive, featuring craft beers, fine wines, and exquisite cocktails. The food was as expected, British pub favourites like burgers, fish and chips and fries. The staff provided exceptional service, going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. They brought over some food belonging to another table and gave it for is for free. The pub also shows live sport, which is an added layer of entertainment. The pub is also pet friendly, so our pup came in with us for the meal. Cheers for a great meal!

Been to Dartmouth on holiday and visiting the Royal Castle was such a treat! The staff are some of the friendliest we have experienced for a while. They can’t do enough for you and seem genuinely interested in engaging with customers. To top it all off, lovely oldie worldie surroundings which are super cosy and food was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the trio of fish but would have it with a side of bread to soak up all the lovely sauce!

Wonderfully querky interior. Love our room overlooking to river Dart. Great food. We were top floor, no lift so be prepared to manage the magnificent staircase.

Had a very lovely (and very late) lunch at the Royal Castle. They were still doing food at 3pm (when everyone else seemed to have stopped). We had a great lunch time portion of fish and chips and a very tasty pint each. Great atmosphere as you'd expect from this historic building overlooking the harbour. Well worth a visit.

We were recommended to eat here by our air b&b host, and it didn't disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious, portions were so generous and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. We ended up eating here both nights of our stay! Great vegan options too! (Which seemed rare to find in Dartmouth). Highly recommend!

Loved our stay in this historic venue. Unbelievably helpful and caring staff. We arrived at the hotel 2.5 hours early but asked if we could drop our bags so we could go and explore Dartmouth. Of course was the answer and we filled in the booking in forms and headed out to explore. For the first time in 55 years of traveling we got a call to our mobile phone to tell us our room was ready and our bags were already in our room. That is service. We headed back for a delicious lunch in the very comfortable bar with an outstanding range of St Austell Ales and an abundance of cheerful and helpful staff. Our room was very comfortable, complete with air conditioning and a spa bath. Beds were excellent. Lovely evening meal in the upstairs restaurant overlooking the estuary and marina. Loved Dartmouth and loved the Royal Castle Hotel. It is on the list of must return.

It was our first trip to Dartmouth for my wife and I. What a great meal and venue the staff were brilliant and very accommodating. The steak was the best I've had from a pub restaurant ( better than some steal house the squid was lively and my wife enjoyed her meal too. Proper classy pub. Wouldn't dream of eating else where when we return to Dartmouth. Thank you.

Having visited the Royal Castle since 1982 and under Nigels supervision until recently you could say the RC has lost some of its charm. Saying that the food is still good and it is a historic and quaint resturant. We booked a table and when we walked in no one greeted us, but we found out table and sat down. I found that you now order at the bar which is no problem. The barmaid got one of the two drinks wrong but we didn't mention it, we had the gammon and a burger to eat which were delicious. We did have to ask for cutlery to eat it though. On the whole a lovely evening but perhaps more training for the staff, it was a busy night with a "murder mystery " evening upstairs and when we heard the cheer we believe they found who did it :-) . We would highly recommend a visit, if you want food we recommend booking on line as they turned alot of people away.

Some Royals would often say Never Complain, Never Explain.....We wish to explain! ..... Bloody Fantastic!! We had 3 Nights at this wonderful hotel in Dartmouth & can honestly say that it was one of the most accommodating hotel establishments we've ever stayed in with our dog 🐾. So often hotels say they are dog friendly & don't make it easy when travelling with your pooch but these guy's..well they are on another level when it comes to welcoming & accommodating your four legged friends & of course your good selves. Our room (18) was fantastic with stunning panoramic views over the sublime river Dart, spacious & very clean also. The food & drink both at Breakfast & in the very cozy Bar / Restaurant were fantastic with plenty on offer including Gluten Free options for those like my wife who are Coeliac so top marks no matter what here! Our dog Bertie was literally treated like Royally from the moment we checked in & to top it off as we left gave my Wife a bottle of Wine & a card as it was her birthday so we couldn't be anymore than super impressed all round...So to sum up what hoteliers should look like then look no further than The Royal Castle Hotel in beautiful Dartmouth folks. Best wishes & see you another time guy's Jay, Caz, Bertie & the new recruit Ernie x x x x

Nice hotel with some interesting features overlooking a busy part of Dartmouth Harbour. Recently taken over by St Austell brewery, it has plenty of indoor seating and is clearly very popular. Good selection of beer and food. Friendly staff. Some original features.

We visit Dartmouth every year and we always choose Royal Castle for our meals. As always their food was amazing! We had the fish and chips and the tagliatelle and were both very tasty. Lina and the rest of the team were as always very welcoming and helpful. It’s so good to see familiar faces still working for the Royal Castle! We noticed there’s a new management and the place looks like it’s running as it used to do before, with both bars and the restaurant upstairs opened. Royal Castle is our favourite place in Dartmouth! Thank you all and see you next year xx

Very good hotel in a beautiful old building and superb location. Good size rooms with amazing views over the harbour, beds very comfortable. Working the TV in the rooms doesn't come easily. My bathroom could have done with some T.L.C. needs re-masticing and some small repairs! (Room 18) Excellent breakfast and good evening meals. Good selection of beers/lagers. Staff polite, attentive and professional. Big thanks to Jessica who made check in easy and Leah who is a amazing waitress. There is 4 floors but no lift and it no longer has a car park due to new ownership. Bar and restaurant very busy this time of year. Dog friendly. Recommended.

Great place with great staff! Shout out to Lina who welcomed us with a big smile and made our stay enjoyable! Lunch was amazing too. We will be returning for sure, not sure if will during Regatta time or not, but we will definitely be back. Thank you Royal Castle!

Great location and very dog friendly. Food, especially breakfast was very good. We had a couple of hiccups with our room which were sorted quickly. Unfortunately there was a fire alarm and evacuation at midnight on our last night which meant a disturbed sleep, but otherwise good. Our dogs particularly enjoyed their free sausage at breakfast 🐕

Meals were excellent, service was excellent and we had a really good time. Unfortunately, all the deserts ordered were awful. Peanut cheesecake had no sweetness and the texture of a protein bar and the churos were anaemic and inedible. Shame as everything else was superb. We still had a lovely evening.
