The Black Dog is an old fashioned pub that hasn't lost its heart � weekend are vibrant it can be quiet during the week depending on time of year because it is mainly locals many of who are farmers the food they do on Friday nights is good � and good value for money they have good music � nights (including folk nights) and support young bands. The land lord and landlady are friendly and work hard to keep our local pub buzzing Dog Fest was bigger and better this year all this is easy walking distance of Dalton or good local taxi ride

Second time we've stayed here. First time was in the rooms above the Inn and the second was at the cottage. It's a really gorgeous place and the staff seriously go above and beyond for you. We cannot recommend this place enough. Food is always delicious. Drinks are well priced. I have zero issues with The Black Dog Inn and cannot wait to revisit. I've added photos from inside the cottage.
Fabulous place, rooms were beautifully presented and clean and comfortable, had a gorgeous little terrace off the room with views over the countryside. The food was exceptional. Evening meal is only burgers but I have to say they are one of the best burgers I have ever eaten, they do it well and stick to what they do well. Breakfast was amazing too. Lovely family run business and traditional county pub with real coal fires. Would definatly come back and very good value for money too. Staff were so super friendly and helpful made us really welcome. Added a nice touch when told it was my birthday stay a happy birthday banner and balloons were at at my table for breakfast was a lovely touch.
My wife and I recently decided to take our son to The South Lakes Zoo, so thought it would be a good idea to stay over. We're so happy we booked this place as we had a great experience. The room was really spacious, clean and had a small terrace with brilliant views. The staff were all really friendly and the breakfast was of a very high standard. My dairy intolerance was catered for, and this added that extra touch of service, especially with the delicious granola Berry compote. Cannot fault this place and for the very reasonable price, cannot recommend enough and will definitely be returning.
Stunning guest house, beautiful rooms with old beams and a really comfy bed. The food is worth a visit alone. Dinner and breakfast were superb 👌👌👌
Absolutely beautiful, cannot recommend enough. Stayed here for 3 nights and the rooms were amazing. Really comfy beds, lovely shower. Staff were incredible. Had the food here as well Friday night and immediately rebooked to have the food for the Saturday too.
Such a gem! Will be recommending it to everyone. The people here are lovely, the room is perfect and we just had the best stay. The inn is lovely and cosy, so you immediately feel at home.
Great value for money and the perfect position so that you’re in the middle of nowhere but still close to other amenities in the area.
I’m also convinced that the mirror they have in the room makes you look skinnier, so that in itself is a reason to visit.
I would like to thank all the staff for making my stay. Accommodation is fantastically spotlessly clean and spacious with the added balcony 👌. Fantastic value. The pub downstairs what a friendly bunch. All were good crack. My meal on Tuesday was spot on the best burger I've had in years. With the added extra on the bar sausage Tuesday, what a result. My breakfast was out the top draw fantastic. Your selection or real ales 🍺 were great. I'm already checking online to grab some. Thanks for looking after me. I shall defo be returning 10 out of 10 folks to all staff.

My wife and I stayed for a night. I can honestly say the best and most welcoming place we have stayed in lovely pub stunning room. Then we come to the food I have never had a better burger it was perfect dirty fries.
My wife said it was also the best burger she had had. She also had a side of Cajun coleslaw that she said was unbelievably good. Breakfast was also just fantastic. If you are in the area definitely go
