I had my 40th birthday party at The Oval Tavern last weekend and I cannot thank Ester and the team enough. They were so kind and accommodating and we all had a fabulous time. We took over the garden, which is a beautiful space, and the BBQ food and salads were plentiful, delicious and excellent value. At about 11pm we moved inside with our DJ and carried on enjoying ourselves with the friendly locals until the pub closed. I had such a great time, it was just what I wanted and it was all delivered efficiently with great service, no fuss and at a very reasonable price. I can't recommend this place enough.
Had a fantastic night for my wife's 40th - friendly staff, good crowd and a well prepared buffet. We lucked out with some excellent Americana music as well which just happened to be on as well. I've always like the Oval and would highly recommend giving it a visit to anyone on a night out in Croydon. Thanks again guys for a memorable evening!
Went here at my family’s recommendation and have to say thoroughly enjoyed it. The food (I had a roast dinner) was absolutely Gaw-Jus! Staff were very attentive and very polite and cheerful! The pub itself has a great ambience and I would recommend to anyone.
Sandwiches served with roast potatoes on the side, charming pub with delightful garden, very friendly staff, and a top-quality jazz band on a Sunday afternoon....an easy 5/5 for The Oval Tavern after my visit today!
Great Landlady, who engages with the community and is keen to support community/external causes. Excellent; knowledgeable and friendly staff. Tasty/varied food menu and a constantly updated selection of Real Ale's. Outstanding music venue - a wide variety of quality acts - local and otherwise. A large outdoor beer garden, inclusive of BBQ facilities and a stage for outdoor performances. Well maintained/recently re-modelled toilet facilities. This is Croydon's most welcoming/fun pub - pure entertainment in every sense.
Fantastic place, a lot of tables, a good sized garden, great staff, wonderful looking food (altho' i didn't partake, sadly) Fabulous live music. We saw Justin and The Argonauts - Superb! A gem of a place, very close to Town centre & East Croydon station.
What a lovely night of smooth laid back jazz, it was especially nice to chat with the band between sets.
The whole pub had such a friendly feeling, met some fab new people. And the chips were awesome !!!

Great live jazz bands had the opportunity to a sneak pick of this blues band last Sunday my God that woman voice was devine and the guitar player nailed it really awesome.

Came here today with a friend to listen to some jazz and to have lunch. We had a lovely afternoon. Food and service were excellent and the music brilliant. I’ll definitely come again. Lovely atmosphere.

Good ambience (homely) with lots of live music, community activities (story time for children in Saturday afternoons, carols by candlelight in Dec, etc.), friendly staff but most of all great vegan food.
Great selection of ales, quality food & superb music. And not a TV set it sight!! Yippee!! Probably the best pub in Croydon, if not the whole of SE London!

My sister-in-law had her wedding reception here in the back garden area. The manager and staff went all out to make the occasion very special. Really well done to all the staff that looked after us!

One small personal caveat: I wish they had a better craft beer on tap. This will not stop me coming back again and again (ad infinitum) though.
Best pub in Croydon by far. Really cosy inside and with a lovely beer garden too. Great, friendly staff and a lovely home cooked food menu as well as regular live music and other events. Book your tables early as this place books up fast! As the sign outside says: "Friendly food, tasty staff" 😂
Was there for a retirement do on Friday 30th June 2023, been there before, always a good atmosphere, nice beer garden with covered areas, and good live entertainment, band was good, and the young lady who was singing this time had a lovely voice. Definitely worth a visit, staff always friendly, good service, always busy when I've been in, clearly popular. Good ale as well, which can be difficult to find. Well worth a visit.
Simply the best pub in Croydon. Also great food and selection of beers at a reasonable price. Their roasts are especially good but remember to book as it is really popular on Sundays when they also have great live jazz music. Shout out also to the super friendly staff - please keep up the great work!
A delightful gem, hidden away in the back streets of East Croydon. Superb greeting and selection of ales. Veggie roast up there with the best. Live jazz playing was amazing. I understand it's a real community pub in the correct way.

I bought my parents here for lunch after I got married and we all had the most amazing food. Wonderful staff, and a brilliant atmosphere. I've been back a few times since and it's never disappointed.
I booked a couple of tables at The Oval Tavern for a leaving do.
Process was really easy, staff were flexible and extremely welcoming. Prices are fair and the real ales are kept extremely well, by far the best in that regard in walking distance of East Croydon.
Particular thanks to Mike who handled the booking. I will definitely be back soon.

Went there to celebrate my brothers birthday, unfortunately it rained all day so we were not able to use the substantial garden. The staff made sure it did not effect the day, they worked very hard. It helped make an amazing day brilliant.
I booked a table for 8 sunday roasts after a recomendation from a friend. All were very happy. Lovely staff and garden. It was a little cooler than anticipated so the infra red heaters above the tables were very welcome indeed. Ales were running low after the jazz fans inside had their fill.

Everything about this pub is excellent. The people are very friendly, including the bar staff. There was a live band, which for me to hear different music than I'd normally listen to was great. Good selection of beers, just a really nice vibe that makes you want to come back again and again.
