We had a very hearty meal here and were served by the most friendly staff in Buxton! Lasagne with chips, steak and ale pie and a mixture of tasty sides. The portions were huge which the walkers in our group welcomed. Staff were so friendly and accommodating - definitely recommend visiting for food which was great value. The bar is very small (only fitting one server) so this meant a long queue for drinks during busy time but that didn’t bother us. Lovely beer garden behind the pub with a lovely view.

We visited on a quiet Thursday evening for a small family meal. It was a rainy windy night and the place was fairly empty, but the logburner was going and we got a friendly welcome. We had already booked a table but probably wasn't necessary that night! We have a few dietary requirements (gluten-free and onion-free) and they were super helpful in providing suitable replacements. So many places will just remove the offending items and leave a half-empty plate! I had the Steak, Guiness and Stilton pie and it was delicious. The GF Classic burger was immense, and had a lovely salad to accompany it. All was good, in a warm and friendly environment.

Stayed at the campsite a couple of minutes walk down the road and came here 4 times in 2 days for a cup of tea, Sunday lunch and twice for drinks. It'd be really easy for the only local place to do mediocre food but this was far from it, the staff were friendly and the views were wonderful. I'd recommend booking a table and then eating as many chips as humanly possible.

We were passing through and rang ahead to arrange food, the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent, we also ended up having a sweet (which we don't normally do) but when it's Bakewell Tart you just have to! There is good selection of ales and some that are brewed locally, parking is ample and views of the surrounding area is stunning

We turned up without a booking but there were plenty of tables available both inside and out. Staff were exceptionally friendly and the food was lovely (magnificent chips and plenty of options to choose from). Sat outside with a lovely view over the hills and whilst we were there a group of lovely people struck up some country music in the beer garden. This created such a lovely atmosphere that we stayed for additional drinks. Unfortunately this did make the walk back to our campsite over High Wheeldon a bit of a challenge😃

Lovely traditional country pub with spectacular views. Dog friendly, good selection of beers and tasty food. Very popular with hikers. Very nice beer garden with little huts to sit in as well as benches.

Had 2 burgers which were juicy and tender, the chips were also top notch! As always, the ever changing rotation of beer was on form! Perfectly enjoyed in the beer garden!

arrived 1:30pm on thursday, plenty of empty seats. its has a small car park and free wifi. the sea food selection would be better if it serves two pieces of each type sea food. the whitebaits was in good size protion. the steak and ale pie was tasty. the fish was rather small in fish and chip. the chilli con carne was ok but lack of vegetable.

Had stayed at the cottage next door, so we had 2 meals on separate nights. Best to book a table as gets busy. Friendly staff and nice, helpful landlord. First meal I had the Stilton and chicken and it was lovely, not over powering and came with chips. Second meal I had a bbq chicken and cheese wrap but found it was smothered in way too much sauce but still tasty. This also came with chips (chips are AMAZING and reminded me if my grandma's home made northern chips!). My oartner had fish and chips and it was delicious. Very dog friendly and took my little dachshund in on a couple occasions. Nice beer garden and easy to park. Highly recommend if your nearby.
