“Great welcome and service for surprise 80th birthday party”

While travelling on the South Oxford Canal we arranged to hold our father's surprise 80th birthday party for 18 people at this pub. We made plans well in advance of the date and Tara the landlady was extremely welcoming and helpful, down to putting us in touch with a local cake maker who created a brilliant special cake for the occasion. A separate area of the pub was decorated with themed banners, serviettes etc that we sent ahead and the tables laid up beautifully with an extra table provided for the cake and cards and gifts. On the night the team on duty led by Lisa were brilliant - really well prepared and very organised. Nothing was too much trouble, they were ready with specially printed menus and ordering pre-drinks and meals was straight forward and efficient. The food was very good, arrived on time, well presented, good portion size with generous servings of a variety of freshly cooked vegetables.The landlady even helped us out with candles when we forgot to bring any!
This was a very special celebration for us and an important one for all our family and friends. We can't thank the Red Lion Pub enough for helping it be such a great occasion.

We enjoyed well kept real ales, a friendly atmosphere and a few games of pool. A traditional Oxfordshire village pub which is very welcoming and a great place to spend the evening with friends.

Favourite pub, and I mean good old pub on the south oxford canal. Old school pub atmosphere helpful staff. A great landlady, and lovely regulars. The locals made us feel at home, the cider and wine was lovely. Don't miss this if your on the river 2min walk from the top lock.
Lovely and friendly pub, food hours vary so check before turning up. Loved the welcome we received and nothing was too much trouble. My 9 year old said best pub ever, not sure if it was the hustling us for jelly tots whilst playing pontoon or the dinner we ordered. Either way a very enjoyable meal and family time. Would definitely come again!
My family and I have been coming to the festival for many years, and The Red Lion is like home from home. The ambience is truly heartwarming, and the food, service, and ale great. This is all set in an utterly beautiful area.
A definite must to visit 😊
Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention Pepper, their family doggy who's also utterly beautiful 😍 ❤️
I have been drinking in the red lion since 1989, not had food since 1995 so can't comment about it, but boy, the days of a Yorkshire pud with faggots and gravy were the best! Beautiful old pub, some nice real ales and friendly staff. Shame I'm only there once every second week of August.
Friendly staff and landlady made me most welcome explained background for visit which she remembered from sometime back. Lunch in the garden service excellent nothing too much trouble. Many thanks will return again when passing.
What lovely homley welcoming pub the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was excellent not to big of a potions the cottage pie is well worth a go and the bread and butter pudding was very nice as well. I would definitely recommend going to The Red Lion
A good old country pub set in a beautiful village, excellent ales 3-4 kept on top notch., even allowed us to order food locally when kitchen was shut and supplied plates and cutlery

Dee is one of the owners of the Pub and restaurant and is a very nice lady. My husband and I came in their pub to watch the Rugby game and play dominoes. Dee had a dominoes board that we could play on. Dee told us the history of this 500 year old pub and the ghost(s) that peaceful roam there every now and again. If we ever visit Cropredy we will surely visit their pub again.
Well-kept beer at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere, pleasant staff. A jolly little boozer, if you are in the vicinity.
Stopped off whilst on the canal, superb hospitality from the staff and owners.
Recommend this quaint little pub to any visitor. Defiantly will visit again.
What a great village pub! It is exactly what I look for in a pub - warm and welcoming with good, well kept beer. There were plenty of friendly locals, as well as a lovely landlady, to chat with and a very cosy fire burning in the hearth. Perfect
