I spent 17 years in Romania and love their food, so when I came back to the UK I was surprised to see almost no Romanian restaurants, cafes or shops.
But I was even more surprised to stumble across this place on the main road to Brighton: a real Romanian restaurant; even the sign is in their language and not a word in English to suggest coffee, food or whatever. I like that. It adds mystery.
I only stopped for a coffee which was really excellent, far better than you could find anywhere else on the road, and I noticed they'd made a stack of Easter cakes and I bought one for the rather high price of £8.
It's a sweetbread with crushed nuts inside and I think it's called cozonac, but I'm not sure. Often they're too dry but this one was perfect as it was rather moist.
I walked round the huge restaurant and met the chef who was making a massive pot of chicken mince with fresh herbs and eggs mixed in. It was Easter time and she was making a haggis-like concoction called drob.
If I was living in London or Brighton I would be a regular visitor to this remarkable place. The staff are very friendly and I'm sure their food is great.
Great place to dine in and have some traditional Romanian food. If you're around, don't hesitate.
Very good food and tasty wines accompanied by friendly staff.
Would definitely recommend to anyone!
Staff members are very friendly and professionals , food very tasty and delicious this place is perfect for private events .
Everything was perfect !
I would like to come again with pleasure. It feel like at home !
I love it.
Nice place, friendly staff and very tasty food. We’ll definitely return here. Recommendation for the owners(This place should be refurbished for 5 stars location)
Just go direct there, enjoy the teast and entertainment.....👍
Loved the food! Great taste and no corners cut on quality and authenticity. The team was also welcoming and kind. We'll order again for sure.
Stopped for breakfast. Weren't sure what we were going to get but we're pleasantly surprised. 3 of us had a cooked breakfast which couldn't be finished but only because there was a good amount. The other had an omelette which was nice. Service was very friendly. Restaurant decorated traditionally, and was set up with tables for 8. Probably would have no reason to stop there again but if we were passing by and needed to eat, we would stop again!
Such a good location, food and the staff was ready to help in any issue.
I recommend, the food was really tasty and the staff really nice and helpfull. I will come back for sure.
Very good authentic Romanian restaurant!
Been there on 1th of December which is Romania National Day. This year happened to be the 100 year anniversary from the Great Union Day. They had a special guest from Romania and it was packed with people, no place to park ( we had to use the petrol station across the road), but the atmosphere was amazing.
We all danced together and everyone seems to be very friendly.
The staff were a bit rude and always in a rush, but I believe it was because of the work load and the place was overcrowded.
We also waited ages for the food and the prices were very high ( we had to pay over £2.50 for a small bottle of water ). Overall the place is nice, but probably the management should have a specific number of customers that can accommodate in those special days, otherwise the staff is under pressure and the customers might be not pleased.
Our favourite place when we want traditional Romanian amazing food.
The atmosphere is really pleasant with live music every time and so friendly staff.
Highly recommended.
