A must if you're visiting the area. The food is outstanding, all locally sourced and probably some of the best lamb I've ever had. The setting for the pub is lovely, beautiful old building, the staff are very friendly and the overall atmosphere is perfect. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place for dinner.
One of the best pub dining experiences we’ve ever had. Beautiful and historical interior with a homely feel, set in a great location for a scenic walk pre-lunch walk, delicious food using local produce ( a lot grown on site) and excellent service. We won’t forget this experience and will return with friends.
Well worth the trek!! Just wish there had been a bit more choice at lunchtime.. I.e. they had Hake on the eveninĝ menu which I would have picked...
Beef superb.. . Good cooking skills here and the service exceptional.
What an amazing place! Superb food, excellent service. What a lovely welcome too! Can't wait to return.
We are so lucky to have a traditional pub of such quality on our doorstep. The team are effortlessly professional, the service, slick; the food, exceptional and then menu, original. The pulled beef bun is a challenge in itself, but you can walk off the guilt so easily in the stunning surrounds. Our fourth visit and if anything, it's getting better.
We stopped for a few small dishes and they were delicious, wish we had chance to have tried more of the menu, some great beers on tap and a lovely olde world charm about the place with wooden beams, stone floors, stone patch walls, loved the place and great staff
As a youngster I used to come up this valley to watch the country's best trials riders and squeeze in an atmospheric and fabulously remote little pub for a pint and a packet of crisps. Regularly I checked to see if it had reopened but alas not. Until now, and what a revaluation it is! Bravely converted in lock down by a local farming family with local produce where feasible, you can even buy their fresh meat while visiting! The changes are a great and totally necessary improvement to make it a viable enterprise today in such a remote site.
It now has good space inside and even more outside including a large permanently covered area and good car park. While retaining lots of its old country character it is now a truly visitable venue for a special occasion (as we did) or a walkers or cyclists drop in on the way around Hay Bluff.
We were warmly greeted for our anniversary lunch and found the food to be great with real home chips as they should be. All three courses came looking simply appetising and were very tasty with their own perfectly prepared beef features. We thought it was also excellent value for the quality as it was not a standard pub fair. (From other comments) for drop in walkers and cyclists the bar menu may need to be tuned to reflect their needs but for us it was spot on.
The Bull at Craswall is now well worth the drive for a nice meal in the beautiful Black Mountains.
This place is beautiful! Everything about our visit was perfect. The location is lovely and the front entrance makes a great first impression.
The cosy entrance pub part is beautifully decorated and every little design detail is carefully considered.
The restaurant was a perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. The log fire smelled incredible and the food was fantastic.
Everything we ate was delicious - the cauliflower with fennel was my favourite starter and my partners was the charcuterie board.
We all had the roast beef for our mains. It was cooked perfectly and the gravy it was served with was surprisingly good - I don’t know what made it taste so good but it was nice and rich.
I didn’t think I could fit in a dessert but decided to go for the malt ice cream and ginger beer sorbet. Wow! I didn’t expect it would be as impressive as it was! So tasty!
Lastly the service was so welcoming and attentive. The owners and staff should feel proud to have such a gem of a place!
We’ll absolutely be back and will be bringing friends with us.
We visited the Bull's Head whilst staying at the nearby Kaya at Blackhill Farm. Amazing food, staff were super friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunch! All of the food was really tasty - simple, fresh produce cooked so well, including a few things we'd never tried before.
Visited on a Friday lunchtime. The location alongside Hays Bluff is superb. Warm welcome from excellent staff, really well thought out refurbishment. Restaurant with log fire was perfect on a cold wet day. Small menu of top quality seasonal choices; every course we selected was delicious. Good selection of local ales plus well thought out wine list. Prices, whilst not cheap, are real value for money; enjoy the experience!
This is everything you'd want from a pub. A must visit.
