Recently on a visit to England we stopped by this small university city of Coventry, after the Friday prayers we spotted an Afghan restaurant "Zeenat" right across the street from the mosque which said "Halal" food available here.
We stepped inside to be greeted by friendly staff. Once seated the menus were placed and we were informed of the specials. After careful deliberation we decided to order the Mutton Achari, Chicken Tikka, butter naan followed by a jug of Mango Lassi.
The mutton Achari was heavenly, the mutton was tender and the curry had just the right amount of tangy-ness in it. Just thinking about the curry is making my mouth water. The chicken tikka was tasty but it couldn't follow up after the immensely amazing and delicious mutton Achari. As the name suggested it was a mix of mutton and the curry had a touch of achar taste.
Having had this meal we were all pretty much done. We were greeted with a jar of mango lassi. Now believe me when I say that nobody had any space left but as soon as each of us had a taste of the mango lassi we couldn't get enough of it and within no time it was over. The taste of that mango lassi is one drink that I would recommend all over the world. You can find no other better mango lassi than the one in zeenat.
The ambience was not bad, but the food made up for what the ambience lacked.
This is a must try place and I give it 4.5/5 for giving me complete satisfaction.
Best Asian takeaway in Coventry for grilled food. Curries are decent too. Mixed grill is awesome. Only place in Coventry I rate compared to big city places like Wilmslow rd (Manchester) or alum rock road/Stratford road/ ladypool road (Birmingham).
Possibly one of the best.... I love this place and go back often. Sure the decor is shabby and sparse but the food is as good as BBQ gets in Coventry. Flame grilled chicken in a Naan was fantastic. Lamb chops slightly tough but delicious. The curries were some of the best around. Sometimes we just buy the whole spit roasted chicken (£5) in peri peri or chilli and make our own roasted veg at home. You can't get that flame roasted taste at home!
To add to the list is the fact that this place is very inexpensive, staff are generally friendly and it's open until 2am some days!
Very tasty meat kebabs and the lamb curry was very tasty , good portion size. The killer was the nann , super fresh and tasty. I'd go again for this alone. Good place, good seating and friends staff.
Hhhhh, Just wandering around stoney stanton road. I was thinking to go to eat Taksim, But When I nearly get there, I just saw this place and went in there. I've tried Pamir before, This is my First time try zeenat. The food is ok, I had some lamb karahi and some garlic naan. karahi was good but just a bit greasy, I think That's their cooking style lol. I haven't tried their Afghan style lamb tikka karahi, Because it takes around an hour to make, I can't judge which one is better. Pamir or Zeenat, anyway the food is nice and the guy on the counter is very friendly as well. It's just a bit expensive, it costs me around 15 pounds, anyway It's worth a try. xx
Really nice food, proper fresh and delicious. The lamb Karahi was the star dish. The mix grill was bursting with flavours. Fries were tasty and cooked well. Highly recommend this place. Next time I’ll be back for the rice and afghani lamb Karahi for sure.
Good service with the food, though of standard quality, is not bad. The newbies staff who are mostly from Afghanistan/Qweata do need some training in customer service but it's not a major issue as the owner is aware of customer service requirements and does step in when needed to correct some minor issues.
Tried Mixed Grilled platter, Nihari and Afghani chicken kahrai. Nihari is too good. Grilled platter is also delicious. We were four in group but the platter was designed for three. But they customized it for four persons as per our request with extra £10 (actual price £25). My friends did like the chicken kahrai but it was just okay for me. The afghan naan was really large and one naan is perfect for two person. I will definitely recommend Zeenat and visit again and again.
The chicken biriyani was great, plenty of chicken which were very tender and the rice was really aromatic and cooked perfectly. The sauces really compliment the biriyani but I wish they provided more. The salad was a bit dry but still not too bad. Overall highly recommended!
Went out with family to this restaurant for dinner. Food was amazing but it was cold in the restaurant. No heating was on.
Excellent food and excellent service. Enjoyed the food. Must visit this place. Recommended.
Lived in Coventry all my life and have eaten in restaurants all over the world. But this one is special and the food is delicious indeed!
We tried Afghani Karahi, lamb kebab, chops and big nan plus fries. Karahi was delicious as expected. Need to tell them in advance to use good meat and specify that you need Afghani karahi and nor normal. Chops was well done as we like and was quite delicious. We are visiting this place from years. All in all they have good food. I hope you enjoy
The quality of food has been changed since the last year, I think it was much better, specially the mango lassi drink it was very nice but now it's tasteless!

Good Afghan restaurant, tho being Kabuli doesn’t meet all my expectations
We visited as a group of 23 people for the first time at this restaurant. We all really enjoyed the food and the service. Everything we ordered was really tasty and moreish. Next time we visit Coventry we will definitely go there again for food. Highly recommended 👌
