Reviews The Rambler's Rest

A big disppointment. Myself and my family went Ramblers Rest yesterday. The staff were friendly and the drinks enjoyable.

The disppointment was the food, I had poached egg for starter. The egg was really over cooked and the whole dish lacked any seasoning. When I told the waitress, she said that I should have told her and she would have bought me salt and pepper.

The main course of steak was asked for rare, but came very well done. This was sent back to the kitchen and a better steak was bought out. The watercress that accompained the steak was yellow.

We also ordered a pizza which was good.

All in all, for over £80 for 2 starters, 2 main courses, 1 child's pizza, a bottle of wine, a beer and a juice, it was a big disappointment.

I love eating out, and I like to pride myself that I have been to a fair number of good places, (and bad ones). But on visiting the Ramblers Rest on the whim of my fiancée didn't prepare me for what I was about to experience. The food was soo good I would quite easily say it was the best I have had in the last 7 years. Presentation, food, service, décor, all absolutely spot on. And what surprised me even more was the price, two main meals, a desert, two glasses of wine, two beers and a coffee came to just over £40. Very good food, at a fantastic price. Well worth going out your way to visit which I would say was probably the only draw back to this place. That it was in the middle of nowhere.
The split bar/restaurant method which seems to be becoming more and more popular with gastro pubs these days works very very well. The food area is cosy, close, warm and quite. While the pub area is open and buzzy. The whole place is decorated very very nicely with oddities to look at everywhere. Such as the scull of some antlered grazing animal on the wall of one room, and a sofa decked out with dogs and dog patterned stools and, a dog skin rug! But after closer inspection it was most definitely fake, having such a thing would be beyond imagining...
Still, a fantastic place to eat. I really can't say how good the food was except it was the best I have had for a long time.

A character pub with a dog friendly dining area. Tables can be booked online. Our food was generous in portion sizes, and well presented.

We had a really nice Sunday roast in the garden on a hot, sunny day. It was pretty busy with mainly families. Everyone enjoyed their food, kids included.

First off, I need to clarify that it was probably the hottest Sunday in October on record. When we arrived it was very busy(4pm) and it took awhile to get a drink at the bar. I can totally understand being short staffed as no one would have staffed up for a full pub AND garden in October, that's the negative bit. Here's the good bit, great selection of beers and wines. We didn't really look at the menu, as all we had on our minds was a roast. My girlfriend went for the trio of roast(which was brilliant for me as she's never finished a roast in her life!) and I had the duo of beef roast. Both were exceptional and great value for money. High quality ingredients, beautifully presented and good portion sizes. I also had the chocolate bomb, just for the theatre and that didn't disappoint either. I actually felt for the staff, as it was so busy and hot, must have been a hell of a day. Special mention to Abbie and Scarlett who were super friendly and nice, when they must have been wanting the day to be over by 2PM. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Rambler's Rest to anyone, and can't wait to go back again.

Great to meet a daughter and grandchildren Amelia and Elodie to celebrate Amelia's 14th birthday. Staff were excellent and good was good too. Just a bit chilly on the warm day being sat by an open door!

Beautiful country pub, in a lovely peaceful area. Exactly what you would want out of a country pub, with a beautiful beer garden. The food menu read amazingly well, but sadly, the food didn’t match at all. Poor massaman curry was replaced by a burnt burger! Don’t know how you can ruin a burger, but somehow they did. Also, the sever should have spotted it before serving.. Shame.

Fantastic renovated and better managed pub! Actually worth travelling a little out of your way for. Lovely service and food and decor. Very cosy with a really warm and welcoming feel. Ample parking too. Definitely recommend and would go back! Food is well presented and tasty. Great for gourmet pub food but not quite as good as restaurant food which is why this review gets 4 stars.

The setting, bar and garden were beautiful. The food was excellent, really really gorgeous and nicely presented The staff were attentive and nice Parking was a bit of nightmare (had to wait for someone to leave before we could park) Your ladies toilets need looking at, they are really difficult to get in and out of easily even if you're quite slim and there was water in all the cubicles/floor by the sink (not sure if you had a leak somewhere perhaps?)

If your looking for that luxury Tudor style vibe then this is your place situated just a tad down the road in chipstead valley, you can only get here by either car or the local cabs the reason for this is because this place is catering for the wealthy. For anyone who wants an amazing luxury atmosphere and quality food and drink, as you enter you will be greeted by warming staff, who will pay the upmost respect to you whether you want to sit near the windows or relax on their sofa style chairs they will sort you out. Food and drinks come quick with their high profile of respected food and a quality chefs this place has a great reputation..the deserts are also luxurious I like the 🍪 cookie and double chocolate.. just to top it off I advise you to check out the massive outdoor gardens which bring out the true character of this Wonderful barn( farmhouse ) the best times I find to go to the ramblers is around 7pm - 8pm

Nice lunch spot and dog friendly, can get quite noisy at times. Food is generally good and quite good value for money. If weather is nice the beer garden is lovely but can be hard to get a table

I felt the wait on food was slightly long. However I appreciate it was a Sunday and many other people ordering a roast dinner. When the food came it was a great quality, good portions and really enjoyed it. We ordered desserts which came in a great time and was really tasty too. Thank you

Came with my fiancé for a spontaneous midweek date night meal. Service was great, food was exceptional ( both had the pork belly with scallops). I highly recommend and will definitely be coming back again ( soon hopefully).
