If you're looking for a cozy bistro with a great atmosphere and a variety of vegetarian and vegan options, The Hummingbird in Cottingham is definitely worth checking out. My friend and I recently visited and we were blown away by the delicious food and warm hospitality of the staff. I ordered the vegan cottage pie, and my friend had the beef roast Sunday dinner. Both meals were cooked to perfection, with generous portions and great flavor. It's clear that the chefs at The Hummingbird take pride in their cooking and use only the freshest ingredients. What really stood out to us was the staff's friendliness and welcoming attitude. From the moment we stepped in the door, we felt right at home. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, making recommendations based on our dietary preferences. In addition to the fantastic food and service, we appreciated the cafe's commitment to offering a range of veggie and vegan options. It's clear that The Hummingbird is dedicated to catering to all dietary needs and preferences. Overall, our experience at The Hummingbird was fantastic, and we will definitely be returning in the future. Whether you're a meat-lover or a veggie enthusiast, this cafe has something for everyone. Highly recommended!

Now reopened as Cafe Norah. Its quite small although it has a large outdoor area to the rear for fine days, so its best to book. We had the full English breakfast which was lovely. Also serve cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Recommended.

I came here for Sunday lunch today. Usually I'm not moved to write such gushing reviews about a place, but I think everybody has a right to know how great it is!! Right, where do I start? Well the coffee was gorgeous, so much so that I had three and ended up with a caffeine high that sent me flitting around like an actual hummingbird. The waitresses who served us were so friendly and made sure we didn't want for anything during our meal. Then there's the food - literally the best I've had in this neck of the woods (and beyond!). I had the pork rillettes to start. I had no idea what it was, but ordered it anyway because I was feeling fancy. It lived up to its fanciness and was presented beautifully like a piece of art. Then I had the sirloin; full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I could have drunk a mug of the bone marrow and garlic emulsion that it came with. The shared sides and Yorkshire puds that came with the main were to die for. I honestly wish I had a bigger stomach so I could've finished eating everything. To top it off, the chef (he looks a little like a Northern Khal Drogo) came out and asked everyone how their meals were. I thought this was such a lovely touch as you usually don't get to see the master behind the food! Overall I give this place 6 stars and will definitely stop by next time I'm in the area.

So we have lived in Kirk Ella and East Riding for less than a year so we are discovering places to eat all the time. After swimming on a Sunday morning we went to Cottingham for something to eat. Saw this place so in we went. A good choice. Went for brunch. Decent menu with choices for Vegetarian/Vegan and Meatatarians. Nice coffee. Clean plates at the end. My son was with us and you can tell if it was good if he leaves a cash tip for staff. He left a decent tip. This is because he was in hospitality for many years as a chef and knows what good food and service is. Two photographs are I think one on left Mexican eggs. Right mushroom fricasse I believe. I'm sure the cafe will correct me. Children can have smaller versions of menu. They made our grandaughter a sausage "butty" which she loved.

Delicious food, varied menu and lovely cafe. Recommend the smoked mackerel salad- very tasty. If you are lucky enough to go when the sticky toffee pudding cake is on the menu it’s an absolute must! The staff are really friendly and attentive. The cafe has a welcoming and chilled feel and is in an excellent location with free parking nearby. I will definitely be going back!

We were lucky enough to get a table for the Sunday Lunch. The food was outrageously good - perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and generous portions. We have been a few times now and have tried multiple things on the menu. Each time we have been delighted. The coffee is especially delicious! Staff are lovely and I am really rooting for this place. Eat local! Also - we were given some parkin to sample and I absolutely think it should be a staple dessert, or perhaps in small bites with a hot drink. Lovely gem of a place. We look forward to returning!

Update on my review, I’ve been coming here for a while now and it just gets better. Food is really lovely. Came for the first time at 18.00 as I’m usually here more lunch times. the dinner menu is fabulous. I had the muscles which are a starter and the dumplings as my main. I’d ordered them together and they were great. Service is great and food is full of flavour, very fresh. Me and my daughter really love the place. I highly recommend xx

Modern bistro in the centre of Cottingham with ample parking opposite. Very friendly and cheerful staff. We went for Sunday lunch which was very good. The beef was a little over cooked for my liking but still good. The belly pork was excellent too and all came with a good selection of fresh vegetables and roast potatoes, mash was available as a side too.

What a fantastic experience. I'm thrilled to have found a cafe that is this serious about good food. I had the smoked mackerel and pear salad, which was sensational - the passion really shows! Very impressed to learn that all of the ingredients are sourced through local partnerships as well. Keep up the great work!

Lovely place. We visited this morning and had coffees and some breakfast. My granola was fantastic, possibly the best I’ve had from an independent which says a lot, as I love breakfast from independent cafes! 🙂 Gorgeous decor, love the wall murals and friendly, lovely staff. Highly recommend :)

Amazing food. Love the fact that most if not all the food is prepared in-house (not tried the full menu). They have a great sense of green impact and the roast is purely amazing. staff are the best part.

Beautiful food. I had smoked mackerel and the wife had bubble and squeak. Really lovely artisan restaurant. It was quite busy which is always a good sign but not at all noisy. Highly recommended.

A beautiful restaurant / bar with amazing food (the chef obviously knows his stuff) and superb cocktails. The waitress and other staff were smart, entertaining and helpful in every way. The decor and ambiance is a gorgeous mix of modern with a twist of jazz and the music perfectly compliments the environment. We will definitely be back, thank you staff you were awesome x

Had a wonderful lunch at the Hummingbird Cafe. As a vegetarian I was absolutely spoilt for choice but opted for the wild mushrooms and cashew cream on sourdough followed by the lemon cake - absolutely delicious! Also love that so much is locally sourced :) Can't wait to go back!

New ownership so first visit. Very pleasant, attentive staff and attractive environment with garden space outside to eat in if you choose. Coffee and Early Grey tea both good. Varied menu with brunch, lunchtime menu and tasty looking cakes too. Open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A really valuable addition to Cottinghams eating out scene.

I have been here many times for breakfast and it has always been lovely. I also have been for Sunday lunch, there was a small issue with this. However the waitresses dealt with the matter quickly. My only advice would be to heat the plates to keep the food warm
