Wow! What a fantastic place Rui and Michelle have here. We were the first guests of the evening at 5-30pm on a Saturday and Michelle and Rui were the perfect hosts. As someone else has put on their review - it was like having dinner at your best friends house - Michelle fully explained the menu and the food that we ordered was fantastic, we had the Lamb Alcatra, Rui’s Pica-Pau and the Seafood Rice between 2 of us....There was enough food to feed 4 and the tastes and textures I cannot commend highly enough. For dessert we had a Chocolate and Caramel Shortbread and a Chocolate mousse, both homemade and moorish. The Portuguese house wine was very reasonably priced at £7 for a small jug which gave you 3 very large glasses full... and was of decent quality. Rui also gave us complimentary glass of Port to ‘wash down the meal’... The restaurant seating arrangement is very quirky and is one on its own. I can not recommend this place highly enough if you are in the area and want delicious homemade Portuguese/Welsh food. Many thanks Rui and Michelle for sharing your experience with us and hope you have many successful years of business at The Old Wives Tales. Tony and Andrea (Ramsbottom)

We dined here last night, food was outstanding, hosts were very welcoming. We ate Pica Pau which is a dish we have never heard of before but one that we will eat again - it’s a taste sensation. The seafood rice and selection of desserts were amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience one which we will be repeating - portion sizes were very good. The jugs of house white wine were also very enjoyable. Looking forward to our next visit, which we will try and coincide with the music nights. Thank you Rui and Michelle

We had a great meal here last night. The lamb just fell off the fork it was amazing. Michelle and Rui made it feel more like dinner at a friend's house than a restaurant. Really accomodating with Matthew who enjoyed the olives almost as much as throwing the rice in the floor! Shame we couldn't stay long enough for puddings - they looked great. Really recommend it. Good luck and see you again. Xx

We had a fabulous night and the very best part was the outstanding hospitality that Rui and Michelle offered us, lovely touch bringing free nibbles pre meal. The house wine is great and an even better price. Rui got his guitar out late on and wow the boy can play. The decor is real quirky and they are obviously an arty couple which we loved. They only opened a week ago so menu is limited, going forward we would like to see a few other dishes possibly more British-maybe a steak or dishes with a sauce. Overall we had a fantastic evening.

Had a lovley family meal here this evening. Rui and Michelle are delightful guests, we enjoyed a chat and they made us feel welcomed and well cared for. Food was delicious, and even my baby loved their freshly-baked bread. A lovley place, well worth a visit for a quiet dinner or an evening with friends. Thank you!
