This is a really nice pub with a great atmosphere. There is a lovely outside area with a cover over it for when it rains and you can turn a heater on when it gets cold. There is a good selection of drinks and they now serve food. The staff are really nice too. The location is right next to the train station so it is good for commuters.

Wanted to thank Lee and his team in allowing us to hold a wage for our Dad on Tuesday. Food and service and the relaxed atmosphere the team provided was simply perfect and such a lovely tribute to Eric who had drank in this pub on many an occasion.. Thank you again Martin and Anita.

Under new management and refurbished. Smart, modern feel to the place, with that vintage kind of pub vibe. Still has a good selection of lagers and real ales. Staff have been friendly and inviting, as they always were. Serves food now throughout the day. Just tucked into salt and pepper squid and a bacon burger myself and was really pleased I did. Limited menu, but that should help keep it simple and good. As a commuter and a local I'm really pleased that I can now have a pub meal on the way home, along with a decent pint (or two). Still manages to keep that pub feeling even with serving food. Still a drinkers pub at its heart. Looking forward to my next visit.

Just visited for first time and it seems very nice, friendly staff and it's mostly clean and tidy. Couple of things that lost the fifth star was the price of steak pie with a few peas and a bit of mash was in my opinion slightly too expensive for amount of food. Second issue was the table I sat at had quite a few peanuts on floor that hadn't been cleaned up which is a shame as it spoilt the overall impression.

Very Mom and Pop feel about this place. Massive portions of food for Sunday roast at a good price, and a solid selection of drinks. Toilets can be a bit ropey at times, but the overall atmosphere is great.

Lovely food by Burgers, Wings and Ribs and very friendly staff. Nice big seating area outdoors, and indoors although the music is a bit loud sometimes in there. Nice side room if you want somewhere a bit quieter and less busy. Toilets are nice and clean. Not too sure prices on everything but I think a burger and chips is about £10-12 and I had a pink gin which was about £7. Would go again.

Nice pub, good beer, nice staff, reasonable food. The only caveat is that it can get very noisy here particularly of a Friday evening exacerbated by two large TV screens directly adjacent to one another. If you like a lively well appointed pub conveniently situated close to Colchester main station the Bricklayers is ideal.

We’ve ordered so many times from here and can’t ever fault the food! Obsessed with the loaded pulled pork chips and genuinely the best burgers. Love the fact they have opened more now so people from all around essex are able to try this amazing food.
